We just spent a long weekend at Blue Moon Retreat in the Sunset Cottage. It was absolutely wonderful! Very clean, nicely decorated, amazing view from any window...even the hot tub!
The kitchen had everything that you could need and more...the BBQ was top notch!
Great property to hike it and take photos...we even saw the loons from the island...so it is very true what they advertise just take your food and toiletries and clothes...everything else is there.
We will go back for sure, very nice spot in the north!

Hi

My husband and I stayed in the Maples Lodge Cabin celebrating our quiet honeymoon from Oct 21 - 25 2013. So nice to arrive and find a bottle of wine, and a card to celebrate the occasion from them! We were very pleased with everything. We loved the cottage with it's wifi, satellite TV, 2 bedrooms, gas woodstove, BBQ, sauna, huge hottub, 2 bathrooms - (one with a Jacuzzi tub!) and laundry appliances. The cottage was very clean and they thought of everything. We were amazed at how thoroughly everything was stocked- from kitchen utensils to bottled water! Even board games/movies! Every single thing was supplied. All you really needed was clothes & food & toiletries. The maintenance fellow and owner showed us a couple vacant units to see how they looked. Sunset cottage is a very cute, one bedroom with jacuzzi tub/hottub, sauna etc and its right on the water. Lovely views! High noon cottage is a very nice 2 bedroom cottage right on the water too with awesome views and nice private deck, just doesn't have a Jacuzzi tub but everything else, laundry, sauna, hottub, etc and patio doors & lots of windows for the view! Island view cottage is set on the water as well & is more private yet, lovely deck, one bedroom - but not as luxury, no laundry, Jacuzzi..etc..but there's a hottub and a Lil 'bunky' building behind with another room.

So overall I still liked the Maples cottage the best, (out of them 4) - (only downfall is it's set in the center of the resort, with not much privacy from the other units, (and a bit of a distance to the water compared to the other units). However, the way the other cottages are set up they would be facing the lake anyways for most of their activities - so you would have privacy that way. So since that was the case being set back really wasn't a big deal to us as it's not that far from the water really, and the Maples is definitely way more luxury and spacious than the other 3 units nearby. It's bright, lots of patio doors, roomy and great for two couples with the bedrooms at opposite ends of the unit. Plus a bathroom near each bedroom. Second bathroom has a large shower stall too! Didn't get a chance to see the 'Chalet' (on the inside) but from what I could see..very nice, secluded, large, roomy, second floor..luxurious but set really far back from the water. Farthest of all of them from the lake - but the total seclusion would be a great highlight! The Shangri La is amazing. We had a tour, very, very, nice. Fully loaded, huge! Massive 8 person hottub! Set right on the water and very, very secluded. Great for many people, large families etc. Lovely cottage! It's like a home!

We will be definitely be going back, maybe bring another couple to hang out with, (bring our pets too) and definitely in the warmer months as well to enjoy the swimming, boating, etc. (I love how it's pet friendly also. So nice! Hard to find nowadays! )Just have to decide which cottage we would like, they all are quite lovely! Maybe each trip will be a different cottage. Hahaha....We've even talked of having a wedding anniversary week (4 days) up there every Oct. that's how much we loved it! Best cottage experience yet..by far! They've thought of everything. Very reasonably priced too, for all the amenities you get! Loved it! Worth the drive! Try it, they don't disappoint.

My husband and I went in May to Blue Moon for our honeymoon and arrived at a beautiful spot set on the lake. We found it to be such a low price for such great accommodations. We were greeted with a beautiful gift from the owners to congratulate us on our wedding. Despite their being a number of cottages on the property it was pleasantly quiet and peaceful. We enjoyed having the lake to ourselves as well as the opportunity to be able to have our own private porch with BBQ where we could watch the beautiful sunsets. The accommodations were clean and brightly lit with many windows so that even on the rainy days you have natural light. The kitchen was stocked with a wide variety of dishes and cutlery making it easy to cook a meal.Thinking about booking a cottage here. We would highly recommend it to couples and families and will definitely be back!

We spent four days at the Island View cottage in the early part of September. We were happy to find the loons still in the lake. It was our 5th stay at Blue Moon and I am about to book another stay for next year. Every year we find that some little improvements have been made to the cottage and it really lacks for nothing. This year the weather did not co-operate and it was too cold and windy for swimming or canoeing, but we used those days for hiking in Algonquin Park. It's only a short scenic drive away. We also spent time exploring the many little side roads that criss-cross the beautiful countryside within about a hundred mile radius of Purdy Lake We discovered scenery that was at times just breathtaking. Sometimes stunning rock formations, other times lovely quiet little lakes or still dark streams. The highlight of our ramblings was a young black bear that we spotted in a meadow! We're looking forward to next year's stay.

My husband and I just returned from a two-week vacation at the Sunset cottage and it couldn't have been more perfect. It was a beautiful setting on a quiet lake. The cottage was very clean, comfortable and had everything we needed. We watched the cleaning 'crew' preparing a cottage next door for the incoming renters - they cleaned for several hours and we actually saw them cleaning the windows - pretty impressive! I would highly recommend Blue Moon Retreat and I will definitely return!

We stayed at Blue Moon on August 1 - August 9th at the Shangri-La to celebrate our 10 year anniversary. I'd like to start my review by letting everyone know what a pleasure it was to deal with Kevin and his assistance in making our reservation. Upon arrival, we were welcomed with a beautiful cottage and a bottle of wine and an anniversary card...the gift and remembering our anniversary was extremely thoughtful of the staff and I am truly grateful for this:)
The cottage was extremely comfortable with absolutely everything you could possibly need. When they told me to only pack food and clothes, I didn't quite believe them...only to see for myself that absolutely everything is provided in the cottage. It is a huge cottage with plenty of space. We were only a family of 5, but I'm sure this cottage could accommodate at least 8 people. The hot tub in the cottage was a huge hit for our family, and my young children loved having a playground area right on the grounds. We had about 400 feet of privacy from the other blue moon retreat cottages. The water park on the lake was also a huge hit for our kids, as were the row boats/paddle boats/ etc. I highly recommend rowing across to the little island.
During our stay, we did visit algonquin park (the main reason for coming up here) and we also tried family rafting...I really recommend this for families with young children.
I would give the cottage a strong 4.5 stars...the only thing that I think that could be improved was that the main shower leaked (this can be easily fixed) and the wifi signal was poor. I don't think this was any fault of the cottage...its probably just the reception from the provider. Unfortunately, for us, we did have to work during our week away and therefore relied heavily on wifi signal. Other then this, the cottage was absolutely amazing. I would HIGHLY recommend this resort to everyone and we are planning on returning to the Shangri-La next summer. We also had a chance to peak into the other cottages while they were being cleaned...They were all lovely and extremely inviting. We have decided, this should be our annual cottage resort. Thank you Blue Moon Retreat for a wonderful family vacation....you will see us again:)

We visited the High Noon Cabin at the Blue Moon Retreat a couple of weeks ago during our driving tour around Eastern Canada. Our whole stay was simply amazing! The cabin itself was clean, cozy and with a touch of luxury-I miss that hot tub! The views were heavenly. We enjoyed BBQ's on the deck and watching the sun setting on the lake. Our 19 month old loved the sand pit and all the free canoeing equipment and we had a go on everything-even the inflatable water slides etc.

My only regret is that we couldn't stay longer-4 nights wasn't enough.

Hope to return one day soon!

Room Tip: High Noon was a fantastic cabin-closest to the water and plenty of space for up to 6 adults.
