Blue Moon Retreat has something for everyone!! (Really) We come each year and stay in the various cottages based on who and how many people with us. This trip was a "kids cousin" week. The children loved playing outside at the tennis court and who doesn't LOVE the water toys and kayaks?!! We would end our fun days with either a camp fire or family movie depending on the weather. Thank you Blue Moon you thought of everything! We only had to bring our clothes, beach towels and food for the week. In town we checked out the Madonna house, Crooked Slide and playgrounds while in town shopping. Had to stop in for our annual family ice cream treat and picture opportunity. Already planning next years stay!

Room Tip: All the cottages I have stayed in! All are great and offer different lay out for amount of people...

We stayed in Island View. Its best features are that its pet friendly, it's private, the deck with large gas bbq was immense and fully enclosed and great for our pooch, it's perched on a hill with a gorgeous view and the very well stocked kitchen. It felt like a private cottage. There are a variety of cottages here at the retreat so bear in mind that this is the smallest one I believe. I booked it because we were only staying a weekend. I would have booked a larger cottage if staying longer. The space is a little tight. In the one bedroom, one side of the bed is up against the wall. It was fine for a weekend but I would not have been happy for a week with that kind of set up. Our seven-year old son really enjoyed kayaking out to the Island and we liked the fact that the lake was a smaller scale so there weren't a lot of large power boats, sea doos etc. Looking across the lake you see water, trees and sky, with very little development. It was very tranquil which was what we were looking for! The selection of canoes and kayaks on site was also enjoyed. We were a bit disappointed that the inflatables pictured on the website were all up on the lawn an not in the water. There isn't really a sandy beach area either. But we found one nearby about a 15-minute drive on Lake Kamineskeg which was beautiful.

I love BMR cottages. I've stayed at the the Sunset with my husband as well as the Chalet once with him and the last two times with a bunch of girlfriends and our kids. Each experience has been outstanding. The last two, in particular were great. The Chalet was fully set up with a highchair and tons of toys for the kids. I can't say enough good things about these cottages. They are always super equipped and clean. We've only stayed in the off season but the grounds are super private and beautiful. They have a great play area for the kids and ours had a blast sledding down to the lake last week! Thanks so much for making this a great getaway for a few tired mums!

We just spent family day weekend at Blue Moon Retreat - Sunset cabin, Not only was the cabin beautiful, it was immaculate. The fact Blue Moon is pet friendly made it that much more attractive to us. Little did we know we wouldn't want to leave. It was so peaceful and relaxing with all the amenities you could want and more. It was just an incredible weekend. We have already booked for next year.

We come up here every winter with a group of friends. This was our first time staying at "shangri la" we usually stay at "the chalet". The chalet is also awesome but shangri la has more room, more beds, and an extra fridge. The view of these lake is stunning in hyena winter when everything is covered in snow. Kitchen is stocked with appliances all you need and way more. Beds are comfy and warm, the hot tub is huge. Would absolutely recommend it and have!

Room Tip: Bring your own board games, they have lots but they're kind of old and dated

We had a fantastic weekend at the Shangri La for my birthday! The staff even provided a bottle of wine as a birthday gift. This was my 5th time visiting Blue Moon Retreat, but my first time staying at Shangri La. The cottage is immaculately kept and has amazing amenities to keep everyone entertained for days on end. From the moment we arrived we felt right at home. The fireplace is beautiful and did a great job keeping us warm during the days and nights. There is also a huge supply of dry firewood available. The beds are incredibly comfortable and everyone had amazing sleeps/naps. The sheets are also unbelievably soft. Where did you get them? The kitchen is well equipped to handle the needs of a large party. The view is amazing, as this cottage is just a few steps from the lake. We even made an igloo during our stay. My only complaint was the cleanliness of the hot tub, but that didn’t stop anyone from getting in. The sauna was also a popular hangout during our visit. The wifi wasn’t the greatest, but who needs internet when you are at the cottage. I think this actually made the cottage a better experience for everyone, as we were able to enjoy each others’ company without distractions (emails, texts, internet, etc). We are already looking forward to booking our next stay.

We invite you to unwind, relax, reconnect and rejuvenate at our small cottage resort on peaceful Purdy Lake which is located between Bancroft and Barry's Bay on the quieter, southeast side of Ontario's Algonquin Park. Our all-inclusive, 'cut-above', resort has 1,500 feet of frontage on a largely undeveloped lake. A pair of loons nest on the island in the centre and their mournful cries are music for the soul. With just 6 housekeeping cottages on 20 acres you will be sharing this slice of the sparsely populated Canadian Algonquin Highlands with only a few other guests and the local wildlife.
