Cavendish Beach Cottages
Reviewed 13 August 2012

We rented one of the duplex units in mid-July and were quite pleased overall. The cabin was very clean, the bed was comfortable and all the expected amenities were included. The price was reasonable considering it's inside a National Park, right across the road from the beach and has fantastice ocean views.

Our only concern was a little lack of privacy. The cottages on the left hand side of the office as you face the ocean fan out in a semi circle down to the road. The people at the cottage next to us were always looking at us while we were sitting on the deck. A little bit of lattice work closing off the right hand side of each deck would give both parties privacy.

This minor concern aside, we would definitely return here as the location really could not be beat. The staff were helpful, but you're largely self sufficient as everything is set up so well. Book early as these cabins are in high demand.

The cottages were very clean and well-stocked with nice decks for watching the ocean. They are within the park, so it is easy to access beaches and watch wildlife (lots of foxes). The bike/walking path is right across the street. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We would stay here again.

Great view of the coast surf pounding the forever beach during our early June stay in unseasonably cool wet weather. But that's a mood of the landscape that is hard to beat. Nearby on the trail we walked by a litter of red fox pups. The mother, busy foraging for family food, was not above begging. This place is nature's perfection.

On the practical side, the cabins are built a bit on the cheap - our kitchen faucet failed to work properly. Though we reported it the first day, it apparently was beyond the capacity of the hired manager do do anything about it for our whole 3 day stay.

We stayed here for 2 nights on May 25/26. The cottage was in a nice area that really had nothing around it within walking distance, save for a beautiful sandy beach right across the street. And since this is why we chose this place, we were very pleased. The beach was fantastic. Easy access and nice, clear water with tide pools for searching.
The cottages are located in a remote area but wathing an easy short drive to civilization.
We had a 2 bedroom that backed up to a dairy farm and looked into the expanseof the ocean. Great views and it was fun to watch the lobster fishermen pulling their traps with the binocs we brought. The cottage was well equipped, had everything we could have wanted and good wi-fi also. There was a basket with shampoo and a shower cap and plenty of towels also. The beds were soft and comfy and the sheets were very soft as well. The TV, while older, was just fine and the cable worked great. A good coffeemaker and apartment sized fridge and stove were in good working order. The only thing I would have liked was a bigger bathroom. It was tight and if I weighed another 20 pounds (being reasonalbly fit now) I doubt I would have fit between the toilet and the sink. As a matter of fact, while using the throne, I could rest my forehead on the counter of the sink lol! TMI? Sorry! The shower was a small stand up and, try as I might, I couldn't shave my legs in it without doing some really crazy manouvers nad getting the floor all wet. It was impossible to bend down and reach your ankles cause it wasn't big enough to fit your body in an L-shape. But lots of hot water and good water pressure!
The office had beach towels for rent for a dollar, and also had seafood cookers, etc available if wanted. The access to great fresh seafood is awesome in the area. Multiple markets offer the daily catch.
The off season rates seemed high to me. We paid $275 for 2 nights. I wonder what the high season rates are? Yikes.
So all in all, a great little place to stay, if you love the beach. There is also a large front lawn with some stuff for kiddies to do like swings and the like. Would I stay here again? No, because my dog usually travels with me, and there are no pets allowed here. Also no again, because I would have access to a vehicle, normally, and would look for a place closer to the shops and restaurants and be able to drive to the beach for the day.
By the way, the couple at the desk were extremely friendly and helpful with knowledge of the area.

Family vacation for a week. This was the 2nd time at Cavendish Beach Cottages. The cottage is well maintained, clean, beds are comfortable. Kitchen is well equipped and if you can not find what you want just ask the office, they will have it. The facility is located within the Prince Edward Island’s National Park. You can sit on your deck and see and listen to the waves, VERY relaxing. 100 yards and you are on the beach! Sunsets are outstanding. Very family friendly with a lot a room to run around, fly kites, swings, etc. only down side no pool. Internet service is free.I would stay here again!

Our family of 4 (kids: 11 & 6) stayed at the Cavendish Beach Cottages in the first week of July 2011. The cottages overlook the Bay of St. Lawrence, and while a road separates the property from the beach, the road is rarely traveled, and we were down to the red sand beach in less than a 10 minute walk. The beach was empty, and the water was extremely calm--and about 73 degrees F (almost swimming temperature). The cottages themselves are on a huge property, with a small playground for the kids, and an adjacent pasture with curious cows to pet through the fence. And while the cottages are close together, and seemingly fully booked while we were there, it's still a quiet place to stay. Stars fill the sky at night. The cottage we were in (#1) was clean and comfortable, with a living room area w/small TV, full kitchen, and two, small bedrooms (the one for the kids had two twin beds). As it was the highest priced lodging of our 8 day trip, we wished we could have spent more time on the property and the beach, to fully get the value of where we were staying. Cons: Besides the price, no maid service or breakfast (buy your food on the way in, and bring it with you), and the location is 35 minutes from Charlottetown (but the island isn't too big, and we didn't encounter much traffic, getting from Point A to B).

Room Tip: Stay more than one day, to get the full experience of a cottage facing the beach.

My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon. After driving around the Cavendish area for days I can tell you this, you will not find nicer cottages so close to the beach. They are either extremely old and beat up, or they're nowhere near the beach and probably cost twice as much. These cottages are immaculate, well maintained, and the kitchen area and grill on the deck are very clutch if you don't want to eat out every day. The owners are extremely helpful and friendly. On our first day the woman directed us to a grocery store, gas station and breakfast joint all within about 10 feet of each other. The only thing I will advise, and its not a flaw more like an FYI- if you can, get a cottage that has a full bath. We stayed in one with just a shower and it was TINY TINY. If you are staying in Cavendish, you really will love it here.
