We both enjoyed our visit to PEI this summer it was a quick get away from our work and we toured the area and took in most of the tourist attractions and this location is a great driving distance to do all your day trips around the island and we enjoyed the property very much. We had a larger room with nice sitting area with a walk out deck, breakfast was nicely prepared each morning and the staff: Judy, her husband and daughter were very nice and helpful. We would certainly recommend this location to our family or friends that visit the island and will stay there again on our next visit to PEI.

I have never stayed at a B&B. So I didn't know what to expect from a "5" star B&B. I mean overall, it was lovely. However, it was empty. I found it odd that they had a 2 night minimum stay on every room type except the one we stayed in. It was the traditional room on the 3rd floor of the Gallant House. I have no complaints about the room except for the bed. I think it was a double?? Too small. Since the place was empty I would have liked too been offered an upgrade to a king bedded room. Like I mean we were the only guests. But after the man, who I am assuming lives there and runs the place with his wife, showed us to our room, we never saw him.or his wife again til morning. So even if we wanted to pay a little more we couldn't. The grounds were lovely. That little section if Rustico is lovely. But you do need to drive to another area for dinner, which we knew. Breakfast was good, but a bit early.

All in all it was nice. I would go elsewhere next time tho. Mostly because there us no particular reason to go back.

Thank you for your comments. I will address your questions in this response.
This reservation was booked on line one month before the guest's arrival. (June 17, 2013 was the date the reservation which was made for a one night stay on July 16, 2013.)

Reservations are confirmed prior to arrival and an email confirmation was sent to the purchaser with details describing what accommodation they had reserved. This would have given the person booking the accommodation adequate time if they found that it was not the accommodation unit they had intended and there was ample time to correct the reservation.

Each accommodation unit is described in detail so that the person making the booking knows exactly what they are booking, the type of bed, as well as the amenities provided in each room. Each accommodation unit is slightly different. This accommodation unit offers a full size bed, and a sitting room with a single bed. All units offer in room controlled heat, air conditioning, Cable TV, Stereo with CD player, FM/AM radio, iron, ironing board, access to a DVD player, extra pillows, blankets, a hair dryer and personal amenities. The Barachois Inn is celebrating its 29th year of operation and we have enjoyed great success. It is important that we describe
our rental accommodation accurately so that the guest knows exactly what to expect.

This accommodation is the only accommodation which has a three piece ensuite bath; it has a large shower but no tub. All other units have a four piece bath, and Queen Size beds. We do not have any units with King size beds. This accommodation is our standard unit with the lowest rate offered.

A full hot breakfast is included in the room rate and is cooked when the guest(s) arrives for breakfast. Breakfast is served between 8:00 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. and offered in the Main dining room. If someone requires an earlier or later breakfast, we can accommodate this at their request.

The difference in the sizes of a Full and Queen Size Bed are - A Full size bed is 54" wide and 75" long, a Queen size bed is 60" wide and 80" long. Our Inn is a Heritage Place and we do not wish to change the original imprint of the house so their some limitations. The house which was built in 1880 has been carefully restored to the period while still accommodating all of the amenities needed by our guests such as ensuite bathrooms, and the items listed above

The bed in this room is a beautiful antique bed made of Elm with walnut carvings with features a PEI hand stitched quilt. The sitting room is also furnished with an antique settee, chairs, dresser/writing desk, etc., however, the guest still has access to Cable TV which is discreetly hidden behind a custom made cabinet to hide the modern TV. If you are not interested in Television, you have a lovely stereo with a CD player to listen to or relax in a quiet and relaxing atmosphere with a good book.

Every room at the Barachois Inn has to meet the standards of a Canada Select Five Star accommodation. The Barachois Inn is the only Five Star Bed and Breakfast Inn on the North Shore of Prince Edward Island. Our Star rating was renewed and confirmed by Canada Select as Five Star as recently as July 10, 2013.

It was suggested that we were "A little pricey", however, visitors to PEI are able to search for a property according to the rate that they wish to pay by searching on the Tourism PEI website by rate, star rating, amenities, etc. This provides the guest with the opportunity to match a property with their needs.

In addition to offering a full hot breakfast, we offer our guests free off street parking, free access to Wi-Fi; snacks on request, and if you stay for two nights, we offer passes to the PEI National Park and the Green Gables House, National Historic Site in Cavendish. We will also provide guests with beach towels and chairs. Unfortunately, we cannot offer this to guests who are checking in the evening before and checking out the next morning because they are leaving to continue on their journey.

Regarding access to dining, Rustico is situated in rural Prince Edward Island. We do not have public transportation or are we part of a municipality so you do have to drive to dine. However, we are pleased to say that there are at least 9 fine places to dine within a five to seven minute drive of the property. There is Shaw's Hotel, the Dunes in Brackley; The Olde Glasgow Mill, The Café on the Clyde and New Glasgow Lobster Supper in New Glasgow, St. Ann's Lobster Supper in Hope River; Fisherman's Wharf, The Blue Mussel Café and The Pearl all in North Rustico and I haven't mentioned them all. These are all minutes away. We provide this information In our in room Guest Directory along with other valuable information on attractions, etc. As Innkeepers, we are happy to answer any questions regarding dining.

Regarding access to the Innkeepers, we live on the property and there is always one of us here, 24/7. The property is never left unattended. The Innkeepers' quarters are separate from the guests' entrance, however we can be reached by ringing the bell. Guests check in and get settled and then they are off to dinner and arrive back with a little time to relax before retiring for the night.

Our goal is to please our guests and we are happy to do what we can to achieve this.

We do require a minimum of a two night stay. Our reservation policy is clearly stated.

We like to get to know our guests, however, we give our guests as much privacy as they desire and allow our guests to decide how much contact they would like to have with the Innkeepers.

Our decision to establish a two night minimum stay is that we are a vacation destination and guests usually stay for extended periods, however, we do understand that sometimes people are just passing through and we do offer one unit which can be rented for one night.

Tourism PEI tell us that exit surveys completed by visitors say that the most popular activity for people who visit PEI is sightseeing. PEI has five coastal drives - over 2000 km of coastline. So you could spend five days just doing the coastal drives. Visitors need a minimum stay of 5 nights in order to get a taste of the Island's landscape and culture. We are told by guests that the landscape is spectacular and there is so much to see and do. Guests who stay longer will have an opportunity to unwind and to get to know the Island.

We would invite you to come back to Prince Edward Island and stay awhile and get to know the
North Shore.

When you are planning your wedding anniversary, you feel you would like to spend it in a unique place, especially when you are travelling all the way from Poland. My wife had dreamed of visiting PEI ever since reading “Anne of Green Gables” many years ago, so she took a long time looking for a place that would have THAT atmosphere and be close to Green Gables, Charlottetown and many of the Island’s other attractions. Barachois Inn had it all and more than that. We were absolutely delighted. The beautiful period house is an attraction on its own. The photos on the website do not show all the beauty of it and, moreover, they do not show how wonderful hosts the MacDonalds are. The only reason why we are giving five points is that there is no six.

We stayed at this expensive B&B and thought it unimpressive with low water pressure, faulty electrics, and an unimpressive breakfast. The Inn was clean, however, the grounds very handsome. The owner and family varied between cold and too friendly. We would not stay here again.

We have received your comments and would like to apologize for the power going down. We were experiencing a heat wave, and even broke a record for PEI. There was tremendous demands on the electrical system with air conditioners running to capacity Unfortunately, a hair dryer, which I am told by our electrician can put a heavy demand on the system, caused the breaker to shut down the electricity supply to the guests' room. There was a suggestion to turn off the air conditioner for a few minutes and that it would probably work fine. The system was only down momentarily and the guest did get to use their hairdryer. Unfortunately, on occasion there are situations which arise which are beyond our control and the situation was solved within minutes.

Regarding the water pressure, we have excellent water pressure and have taken extra measures to ensure that there is good water pressure with the drilling of new well and the installation of a submersible pump, as well as an expansion tank to ensure good pressure. We are located in a rural community and are not part of a municipal water system. The shower does have a rain master shower head which provides a more gentle feeling when showering and may account for thinking it is low water pressure.

Regarding the comment on breakfast. We are always happy to respond to guests needs and if there are special requests for breakfast we try to oblige. Breakfast is cooked fresh and on demand when the guest arrives. Our guests appreciate the fact that the breakfasts are prepared for them on the spot according to their preferences rather than being prepared ahead of time with no choices. We were under the impression that the guests enjoyed their breakfast.

Regarding the comments as to the owner and the family varying from being cold or too friendly, we are always friendly and courteous to our guests. This is our priority. However, we do respect the privacy of our guests and ensure that we give them as much privacy as they wish. We are entering our 29th year of business and our family take a great deal of pride in looking after the needs of our guests. We are rated by Canada Select as a Five Star Bed and Breakfast and our guests appreciate our attention to detail and the ensuring that there are expectations are met. Our satisfied guests is what has sustained the Barachois Inn's business throughout the years.

There were two guests in the accommodation unit and the person checking out told me that she thought the Inn was beautiful, and that she enjoyed her stay with us. I am a bit surprised by these comments. I would liked to have had heard their complaints and opportunity to discuss this with them face to face. These guests were hear for several days and we did not hear any comments from them with regard to their dissatisfaction.

We do hope that they will return to Prince Edward Island some time soon.

Barachois Inn is located in a good central spot to explore the whole of Prince Edward Island by car. From here you can do a day trip to the eastern part or the western part or the central. Anne of Geen Gables is located a few Kms away from the hotel.

The B&B is a historic building , located away from towns on the island, yet not remote. A nice getaway location. Great breakfast. Hospitable hosts. Lovely outlook from our windows of other historic buildings and church. Well maintained and clean. The bedroom had a separate sitting room so the accommodation was spacious.

I have stayed at this b&b twice now. After our first visit, we HAD to come back to stay on our next visit to the island. We were welcomed with open arms, and had help with all of our luggage into the room. We had 6 of us all together (a group of ladies and 2 small children) and stayed in both suites on the main floor of the McDonald house. LOTS of space, very clean, comfortable beds, and beautiful custom cabinets. There were fridges in both rooms, and crystal glasses to use. The common room was warm and welcoming and a lovely place to visit with all of the ladies. Our little girls had lots of space to play, and not too many breakables and knick knacks to knock over, which is nice for a mom. Not having to worry about putting everything up high was very nice. :)

The breakfast in the morning was incredible. Flavorful french toast and yummy syrup with some wild blueberries and bananas... So tasty. The coffee was great, and the service was amazing. Sharing of stories, and a kind welcoming air made this meal very enjoyable. The layout of the meal was very formal, and made us feel spoiled. :) There was happy conversation and big smiles all around.

Upon leaving, the owner gave me a great big hug and asked us to come again. It was so nice to be remembered and it felt like coming home. I would recommend this b&b to anyone, and I plan on staying again when we return to the island.

Located about 15-20 minutes from Charlottetown Airport, the Barachois will not disappoint. A tad expensive, but the nicely furnished rooms and suites plus the fantastic breakfast served with period china, silver flatware, and candles (!) make it worth it. The MacDonalds are lifetime residents of the island and so are able (and happily willing) to provide tourism suggestions and recommendations based on your interests.
