“A charming place”
Reviewed 9 October 2009

Victoria is sort of a quiet backwater off the highway - but with a fine restaurant (Landmark Cafe), a theatre (we didn't go), and a small collection of nice shops. We found it a perfect way station near the Confederation Bridge. The hotel is charming: congenial host, a delightful tea/breakfast room, very quiet. Our room on the second floor was small but with a nice view. the bathroom was tiny, with the smallest sink I have ever encountered, but everything was perfectly comfortable. We enjoyed afternoon tea, strolling through the village, and the peaceful nature of the place.

Bob and Bonnie are great hosts; he cooks and she serves. The tea room is also great. The town of Victoria is really small, but cute. It has a few places to eat and shop. If you like quaint places, you will love the Orient Hotel.

I travel a lot and their are few times that a hotel creates a new and unique travel experience for me. The Orient Hotel is by far the best way to spend time on this island for the following reasons. The hotel is the second oldest hotel on the island and is located in a small, quaint village by the water that has a several great eateries (cheapest lobster on the island too).

It is located about a 30 minute drive from Charlottetown and makes for a great place to ping pong across the island. We stayed in the suite which was very nice. Honestly, all the rooms were nice. If this is your first time to PEI, I STRONGLY recommend this hotel because this type of stay is difficult to find nowadays.

Very clean and quiet. Good hosts, great breakfast. Warm at evening but has ceiling fan to keep you cooler.

Loved this historic hotel, perfect for this beautiful town. We were lucky to find last-minute accommodations there. We got a suite which was spacious; the bathroom was huge! Well decorated, friendly hosts and great food. Excellent value! The owner has a tea room which any one should try. Too bad they're apparently selling, hope it maintains its level of quality.

Victoria is a wonderful stop, especially if you intend to take in the evening play at the Victoria Theater. The Orient Hotel exudes history and is one block from the theater and all the shops. It is a funky little place, old and on a tiny scale, but beautifully maintained and very clean. Bonnie and Bob offered us a Room, Dinner and Theater package that was very reasonable and totally delightful. We also enjoyed the excellent breakfast and the international guests. The shops in Victoria are delightful and full of unusual little finds. You can walk around the town and poke into all the shops in just a few hours. Do put this on your itinerary if you want to visit a non-touristy, delightful place right on the water.

  • Liked — Its historic ambience and its location in Victoria-by-the-Sea
  • Disliked — Rooms are a bit small, but immaculate

We booked the Seashell Room [$79 per night] for Sep 7-9, 2005. Unfortunately, on the drive to Victoria, I became ill and wasn't up to climbing the stairs to the third floor. Bonnie quickly reassigned us to the Seawind Room [$99 per night] on the second floor. She pushed the twin beds together to make a king. This room is bright and airy, with a private, full bathroom, TV. Don't be put off by the name or the gaudy yellow exterior paint. The inside is beautifully done, spotlessly clean, modern bathroom. Bonnie & Bob are welcoming and hospitable hosts. Full breakfast is included in price. There is a 10% discount for stays of 3 nights or more.
