Carleton is a resort on the Baie Chaleurs on the south coast of the Gaspe Peninsula. During the summer, the place must be really busy, but in early November it is quiet with a number of restaurants close for the winter.
However, Roger and Alice's 5 bedroom/suites gite on the main road through town is a great place to use as a base for a few days. The owners are kind, generous and very enthusiastic about their town and surrounding area. Roger will give you information on where to go and what to see and both of them were happy to sit and discuss the local history as well as worldwide politics and other topics - we were there during the US Presidential elections and gained an insight into how the USA effects Canadian life.
Our suite at the top of the house (room 5) was perfect with a comfortable bed, rocking chair and large easy chair, plus a fridge and tea/coffee making facilities. The bathroom was as previously described a bit small especially the toilet which was hard to access for a tall person. However, the shower was strong with plenty of hot water.
Breakfast consisted of a muffin, croissant and fresh fruit salad followed by pancakes, French toast or eggs.
The Gaspesie area is wonderful with plenty to see and do and with Roger's advice you will enjoy a visit whatever time of the year you go.More
