“Food, Fun and New Friends”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 February 2011

If you want a totally social experience in a totally relaxed environment with a wide array of delicious food and drink this is the weekend spot for you... Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights are rocking on the corner of Donna Guerta (sp) and the 16 of September... It is a serious amount of fun... And a different experience every time you go... Herb has added a breakfast menu on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday so you can relax into your morning, visit with friends and linger over french toast with agave syrup or poached eggs on spinach... But best of all - the most fun ever - are the cooking classes that pop up every once in a while... If you get the chance - attend... You will be privy to some of Herb's wonderful culinary secrets, a geography lesson and interesting travel tips. This is a total experience - true that... Don't miss it...

“GREAT TAPAS, neighborhood place”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 January 2010

This is a neighborhood place for folks "in the know" that made our Ajijic visit perfect! The best evening we had. Food is awesome, the owner/chef visited each table and explained the dishes. He's traveled all over the world taking cooking classes (is a retired pilot) and the cuisine shows his expertise. A definite YES! to go here for an evening out. Very small and intimate. Only open Thurs-Sat.

“Grossly overpriced”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 April 2009

Firstly I have to give credit where credit is due. The wine is good and well priced for the area. The bartender is friendly. Alas, the same can definitely NOT be said about the food. The quality is fine. However, there are a number of issues regarding value. It's a tapas restaurant. We ordered two dishes to start, a potato and zucchini tart and some shrimp cooked in Pernod.

First problem. The shrimp were not cooked in Pernod. They were cooked in some local equivalent. We saw the bottle being used. The price was 60 pesos for 8 shrimp. That was not unreasonable.

Second problem: Where on earth do you find a tapas restaurant which serves ONE tiny portion (the size of a small nacho chip) of tapas to anyone? At the very least there should have been two pieces as there were two of us there. And guess what the price was for that little sliver of food. 35 pesos. That price would be considered expensive in London, Toyko or Paris. In Mexico at a small plain restaurant, it was outrageous. It was a couple of fried vegetables, for goodness sakes. They cost close to nothing in Mexico.

They also had things like fried lettuce for 45 pesos. I wonder how big that pice of leaf would have been for that price? We decided NOT to find out and got out of there as fast as we could.

You get huge plates of wonderful food at almost any restaurant in the area for 65 pesos. 35 pesos for a potato sliver. Give me a break.

“The Best Margarita in town and the best bar tender too”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 August 2008

We had the pleasure of eating and drinking in this most pleasant new tapa bar in Ajijic. Every time we walked in we were greeted ..and given complimentary tapas with our drinks while we scanned the local specialitys of the day. Oscar and Herb are wonderful hosts....friendly, professional and above all serve great tapas. It is a notch above many of the establishments in town..and will continue to be one of our favorites when we visit.
We look forward to going back when we return this fall.

“Great Tapas Bar in Ajijic, Mexico”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 July 2008

What has been missing in Ajijic has been a restaurant/bar like Ole! Ola! ... a great new Tapas Bar. Conveniently located at the corner of Donato Guerra and the 16 de Septiembre in the village of Ajijic. There are several great hotels within easy walking distance.

Drop by for tapas (little bites) before or after dining; after the theatre. Arrange a group to come by for micro-brewery beer -- made locally in Guadalajara.

Desserts are exquisite and there is a good selection of fine quality wines. Quiet, cozy atmosphere for chatting with friends.
