What a heavenly beautiful resort with amazingly staff who are friendly, energetic, entertaining & attentive. We thoroughly had a blast in our week stay. We can't wait to return to this resort. Like the song, "I left my heart in San Francisco", I left my heart in Iberostar Playa Mita, to "A_____"

This is a new hotel and they were still finishing off a walkway on the beach but it was one of the most luxurious we have stayed in. The staff could not do enough for you . We especially enjoyed the Star Friends' games for all the family and the aqua-aerobics sessions with Moses & Bryan were gym standards.
The rooms were enormous with a huge bed , settee and easy chair ( 12 cushions in all) The balconies were roomy too with not a plastic chair/table in sight!
The food should suit every palette and it had 24hr FREE room-service , with lots of variety. There were 4 specialist restaurants too if you wanted to give the buffet a miss..
There was an infinity pool or 'double-decker' as the USA guests called it with easy-access & a shallow section for sunbathing on . There was a separate sports pool for water polo etc.
The hotel is the newest one being built in this part of Mexico and is set in a parkland that will have other hotels adjoining it in the near future. It is quite a way from Puerta Valletta so most of the time is spent around the hotel; and the quiet beach which seems to go as far as the green mountains on one side and the forest-covered cliff on the other.
The hotel is set on the cliff top so watch out for pelicans, frigate-birds, sea-eagles, storks and other birds floating by as you lie on your sunbed. If you don't want to walk down to the beach don't worry there is a beach-elevator .
If you have young children there is a special section for them with a water-park and pirate ship to explore.

We stayed at the Iberostar Playa Mita from May 27-June 3rd. Just to preface, we have stayed at numerous Iberostar resorts, Iberostar Grand Resorts, Couple’s Resorts and Riu Palace Resorts, so we have a pretty good list of places to compare this property against. I would highly recommend this destination to anyone still trying to decide on where to go. The staff, accommodations, and amenities are equal to, if not superior, to any of the Iberostar Grand Resorts that we have stayed in. However, the staff here and their attention to their guests is what made this trip the most enjoyable and the reason why we will be coming back.

We arrived with approximately eight other couples on our arrival bus and it appeared that there was only one person to handle the check in for all couples. However, before everyone could get to the desk, other staff members arrived and the check in was very efficient, trouble free, and completed within minutes. As usual, we were greeted with welcome drinks, which is always a nice touch. If you are taking an apple transfer, you stop at two other resorts for drop offs and the ride is approximately an hour to the Iberostar.

During check in, was when we first met Nestor. Nestor proved to be the MVP of this trip in our eyes. Nestor was so valuable in providing information, arranging all of our requests (making an anniversary very special), and assisting with issues that were not Iberostar related that he could have very easily not helped with, but did so anyways. In all of our stays, Nestor was head and shoulders above anyone else we have had the pleasure of meeting. We had great difficulties with the Apple representative during our stay and Nestor assisted us at all times and really went out of his way to help and make sure everything went as smoothly as they could, even though he didn’t have to. You can tell that Nestor truly is concerned about the guests and makes sure that their experience is positive and hassle free. Nestor is one of those people that you can tell is destined for higher positions in the company and rightfully so.

All week long, we were able to see just how well the grounds were kept and we were amazed at just how clean and attention to detail everyone was. The grounds and place were immaculate and they work hard to keep it that way.

1: Rooms – Once at the resort, we started with an ocean view room and it was very nice and I have absolutely no complaints with the room. These rooms are centrally located and if walking is a concern, these rooms would benefit you the most as they are within short walks of everything. We then upgraded to an ocean-front, and did not regret this decision. These rooms have magnificent views and there is nothing like leaving the door open and listening to the ocean. These rooms are well worth it for the view alone. They are larger than the other rooms and have a small sitting area which proved useful. Wi-fi didn’t always work in the room, but hey who cares, you are on vacation. We ordered room service multiple times and they always arrived within twenty minutes with the orders correct. The rooms were always stocked with water (extra if you wanted) and beer. The only thing I noticed that was different from this resort and others is that there was not any liquor in the rooms. Not a big deal for us as we drink mainly beer, and it may have been available upon request, but we didn’t inquire. Maid service and turn down was great and I wish I knew who took care of us during our stay so I could compliment her directly here, but I don’t, so please know that they were very thorough and even organized our room in addition to cleaning. We had one issue with the safe not opening and security was there within five minutes to fix it. They would not even enter into the room until asking and receiving permission to enter.

2: Food – The only specialty restaurant that we booked was the Japanese. Other specialty restaurants are available and we would not have had any difficulties in getting reservations, but we preferred to spend our time in the pool and on the beach. Others we talked to had great things to say about the Gourmet and the Steakhouse. The food at the Japanese was excellent and the show cooking was well done. Otherwise, we stuck to the buffet for all other meals. While buffet food stirs up negative connotations in most people, this buffet food, for the most part, is very good and there are plenty of selections to choose from so you don’t eat the same thing day in and day out, unless you want to. The breakfast buffet is by far the best and I always look forward to the omelet stations and freshly made donuts and French toast. However, the food quality is the biggest difference between the Grand resorts and other Iberostar resorts. The food quality, while I am not complaining, is better at the Grand resorts.

3: Pool – The pool was very large and we never had any difficulty in finding a lounger or a shaded area. The infinity pool was definitely a nice touch and even during the weekend when there was an uptick in attendance, it never felt like it was crowded. There was a nice kids pool area that was larger than most other places we have stayed and the kids really seemed to enjoy it.

4: Beach – The beach is on the smaller side, but never felt crowded either. Inside of the lifeguard stand, there are beach umbrellas to use, but you have to set them up yourself if you are up and on the beach earlier than the staff gets there. Otherwise, they will set them up for you. You can take long walks down both sides, whichever way you decide to go, and not run out of beach. As noted in other reviews, we could not swim in the beach on one day due to the amount of small jellyfish that were on the beach that had washed up and were in the water. This was the next morning after a very hard rain storm, but I’m not sure if the two are related, so be on the look out the next day if you have heavy rain. However, the rest of the trip was jellyfish free. Beach bar service was great as they checked on you continuously and kept you refilled. The vendors are a bit pushier here than in other places we have been, but will leave you alone after several refusals. If you are looking for another beach adventure, take a trip to Sayulita. It is a small beach area that was fun and had some shopping for the ladies. Ask for Ricardo’s taxi to take you. He is super friendly, had a very comfortable Suburban to take us, and was priced very fairly.

5: Staff/Service: I cannot speak loudly enough about this aspect about our trip. In addition to Nestor, the staff is so overwhelmingly willing to bend over backwards to help you and make you feel special that this is what truly separates Iberostar from every other company out there and why we continue to go back to an Iberostar year after year. Everywhere we went, we were greeted with smiles and greetings. In addition, everyone treated our seven year old daughter like a princess.

If you engage with them, they will remember you, what you like to drink, eat, and where to sit, and have it ready for you when you arrive. I would like to list just a few Iberostar folks that made our vacation memorable, but by no means is this even the half of those that contributed to it. Nestor, Raul in the buffet (funny dude), Wendy (wait staff at the pool, always knew what we liked), Emilia (breakfast), Cesar (buffet), Victor (beach bar/kitchen), and Pilar. Pilar is part of the management team and this was our first time while staying at an Iberostar resort that we were able to speak with management while out and about in the resort. She was engaging and definitely very in tune with what was going on in the resort. It was nice to get to speak with her on many occasions.

The star friends are fun and provide a lot of side games to keep guests engaged. The nightly shows are good and it is in an air conditioned theater as opposed to an open air one that is so prevalent amongst other resorts. This made the shows easier to sit through because we were more comfortable.

This resort is very family friendly and I can’t say enough good things about it and the staff. Please, make sure you tip accordingly. All too often we saw individuals who were not tipping and was definitely not because of service. If you are looking for a “club type/party” resort, than this is not for you. This is for couples, families, and anyone else looking for a great, relaxing time. I would not hesitate to recommend this destination to anyone. On top of that, it even provides great value. While it does appear to be a ways out from others, that was not the case and we were to the resort in no time once we landed. We will be returning to this resort in the near future.

Room Tip: Ocean view rooms are centrally located and cuts walking time down

he rooms were great and all of them had a fabulous view. Very clean. Great pools. The Japanese restaurant was amazing and we wish we had gone there first so we could have gone there twice. Best restaurant in the facility. There are times in the day when all restaurants are closed and I think this is a drawback. There is a little unknown coffee shop by the lobby that could be highlighted more. When we left all the restaurants were closed and we forgot about this little hideaway. It is a bit far out though and the hotel should have a shuttle bus by demand so guests could pay a reduced group rate to PV or Sayulita, zip lining etc. The staff are amazing - very helpful and caring. If you are looking for a great relaxing get away and want to stay on site, this is the place to go.

My husband and I just returned from this new resort last night. We arrived on a Wed (to 48% occupancy) and stayed 4 nights. The place was absolutely deserted on Wed and Thur, but the Mexicans began arriving on Friday and the place was definitely more crowded on Fri, Sat and Sun. We were told by the staff that this is expected to be the pattern. Still, being new, it was not operating anywhere near capacity. If you're planning a trip for the summer, remember that the Mexican school kids are generally in school through June, so go before that to cut down on the kids.
My husband and I have stayed at the Iberostar Bavaro Suites and the Grand in Punta Cana on previous trips. We tried the Excellence in Cancun once and agreed that Iberostar is the way to go. You just cannot beat their level of training for the staff. One of our waiters at Playa Mita said he's worked for other resorts in the PV area and Iberostar is by far the best to work for. I think that satisfaction shows in the staff.
First, location: I agree with a previous reviewer that it probably is not technically on Punta Mita. It is a bit farther north than I expected, but that in no way ruined our experience. At the PV airport, once you get through the shark tank of timeshare salespeople , look for a white kiosk against the wall that says taxi. The ladies will be waving at you, too. I think the company is TPV and the taxi drivers wear TPV shirts. The prices are posted and it was 900 pesos to get to Iberostar. We brought pesos with us just to make it easier. You pay at the kiosk and exit the airport, where the drivers will look for you with your receipt in your hand. Our driver had never actually been to Iberostar, so we had some comical moments on the scenic drive trying to figure out exactly where it was. It was a bit of a roller coaster road, so be prepared for that if you're prone to motion sickness.
Upon arrival, the bell captain ( I wish I could remember his name! He should be running the place!) welcomed us 'home.' I was surprised that the reception desk staffer didn't offer us an upgrade (we were prepared to pay, of course) but simply assigned us to our tropical view room. My husband and I had already decided that we wanted to upgrade to a spa room. That gets you an ocean view from the balcony and use of the hot tubs and bar on spa level without paying for the rooms billed as ocean view junior suites for even more money. The spa room comes with a $50 credit towards any 2-pack spa service. That means you pay the $150 price when you get the services but then they refund you $50 when you check out. The bell captain took us in a golf cart all the way to our rooms, as this place is huge. We got to our room and discovered that the reception desk staffer didn't give us key cards. The bell captain raced back to the desk and came back with keys to a room on the end of the building as an apology. So, we actually ended up with a better view in a quieter room.
As for the food, it didn't seem as good as Iberostar in Punta Cana, but it was in no way bad. I can see how the Punta Cana hotels cater more to the European tastes while this Iberostar catered more to the Mexican clientele. There was a good selection of fresh fruits and veggies and we enjoyed the beef, chicken, fish and pork prepared various ways. We certainly did not go hungry. We found a couple of Spanish wines that we really liked and I'm hoping I can find them locally here at home. I saw some upscale liquors being poured and the mixed drinks seemed of pretty good strength and flavor. We made reservations at 3 of the 4 fine dining places. The only one we didn't try was the Japanese one. I'm still not sure what kind of food Pacific Express was trying to serve. That 's the fanciest of the restaurants, but I wasn't terribly impressed with the food. The interior is very nice and it's the only place kids are not allowed. The Mexican place was okay, but I probably ordered the wrong thing. I've honestly had much better Jalisco-style Mexican food here in Dallas. I actually enjoyed the steakhouse the most, and I'm pretty picky about my steak. I should say that it was nice that the general buffet restaurant was air conditioned. Some resorts don't do that.
The beach was astoundingly clean. I know they send people out to clean it early every morning. I was disappointed by the lack of sea shells, but that's probably just a location thing. The waves were not too strong for swimming for an adult and the water was a perfect temp and clarity. There is a 1500 meter area roped off for swimming, so no Jet Skis will attack you in the water. The tide comes in every night right up to the dunes, so they can't put up permanent palapas. The beach staff will set up chairs and umbrellas for you if you can't find one already where you want it. The beach vendors will ask you over and over to buy their wares, but they eventually get the message and leave you alone. I found drink service on the beach to be spotty at first, but just find a waitress (preferably Maria!) and tip her at the outset to keep the drinks coming. My hubby and I walked down the beach both directions every evening to enjoy the sunset and truly felt like the only people on earth. There were only a couple of other hotel guests out and a couple of locals. Really serene.
The nightly entertainment (in the air conditioned theater!) was of the usual resort caliber. The performers were working their butts off and provided a lot of good, if a bit cheesy, fun.
This is the first resort where my hubby and I can see bringing the kids, age 8 and 6. The kid pool and play area looked good and even the main pool had shallow places for the kids. There was a separate sports pool, so you won't get bonked in the head by a ball. And who doesn't love a swim up bar?! There seemed to be ample lounges around the pools and, contrary to a previous reviewer, we found food available whenever we wanted it. We saw people bringing food out to the pool and beach area on plastic plates, so maybe all you have to do is ask for a plastic plate. One day at noon, they set up a huge tent on the beach and made tacos.
We didn't leave the resort, as we weren't interested in doing anything but laying on the beach drinking margaritas. If you're looking for a resort from which you can take an easy day trip for souvenir shopping, this probably isn't the place for you.
Our return trip to the airport was 650 pesos and they seemed to have cabs on standby for the people departing on a Sunday.
We really really love Punta Cana with it's different international vibe, but Playa Mita is a 2 hr direct flight from Dallas without the hassle of going through the hell-on-earth that is Miami Customs and Immigration. I can definitely see us returning to Iberostar Playa Mita!

Room Tip: If you're traveling without kids, go for the spa room. Ask for 2247 or the one above it, as thos...

We spent a week at the resort, we had a good time but I would have to say we were all expecting more. The hotel is quite beautiful so the first impression when you check-in is that you are in for a treat. It is not so good after that. The accommodation is quite basic and all rooms are small even if you pay extra for ocean view (not really worth it). The food is ok but you get tired of it quickly. They only have 4 specialty restaurants and none of them is much better than the main buffet. If you get a really good deal go for it, otherwise, look elsewhere
