Snorkeled from beach on our own, saw turtles! Had ice cream from Maria (expensive, but tasty). Didn't try the café, heard that you can't even sit on the patio with a wetsuit on... strange, since the Akumal Dive Centre is right next door.

Just average beach but nice to snorkel with the turtlles and fishes. You do not need a guide and at the entrance they will push hard to sell you guided tour packages witch you don't need if you are basic snorkeling experinence. Just go there with the collectivo (cheap) and bring snorkeling equipment and life vest or wet suit. do not touch or get to close of the turtlle and fishes it is prohibited by mexican law.

We didn't do an organised trip - got collectivo and then hired life jackets and a locker (had our own snorkels), total cost under £25 for the two of us.

White sandy beach, crystal-clear turquoise water, international swimmers and sun-bathers, and eco-friendly rules to protect the reef and turtles make this a wonderful place to spend a day. There are no palapas available unless you are staying at one of the many hotels (small) that line the beach, so get there early to grab a spot under one of the many shade-providing palm trees. There is a bar/restaurant on the north end of the beach and a little convenience store as well that provide your beverages and food needs, should you have any.
You can go on guided snorkeling tours for a reasonable fee.
If you want to use the "public" restroom, you will need a few pesos - or a "bathroom pass" that you can get from the bar.

If you like a beautiful beach in a protected area where you can snorkel off the beach this place is it. Sea Turtle and Sting Rays swim all over that area. For $20 you can rent all the equipment and dive right in. They have a huge Palapa Restaurant on the beach over looking the boats and swimmers. It's just a great place
