Yal-ku lagoon is a nice place to visit but we had much better snorkelling experiences at other nearby places, including Akumal Beach. Due to the thermocline in the water at Yal-Ku, it can be difficult to see the fish and turtles. It is a nice place to snorkel because of the reef and the protection (calm water) of the bay itself, but the underwater view is not always the best because the thermocline causes the water to appear "blurry".(the mixture of warm and cold currents) Snorkelling is free at Akumal Bay and the water there is crystal clear, or if you wish to pay for a day of top notch snorkelling, visit Xel-Ha!
