Description: Altho this restaurant is listed in Cancun, it actually is on the main road across from Half Moon Bay in Akumal, Mexico. It is newly opened and has excellent, inexpensive food. Gina, who runs the restaurant makes the best guacamole this side of Guadalajara & her pita rellenos are the best! She is open from 12 noon to 8 p.m. and also delivers! What more could you ask for! Enjoy this delicious menu without leaving the beach!

“Forget the View - Come for the Food!”

Though the setting leaves a bit to be desired, the food at Gynn’AK is not to be missed! Everything was served fresh and, as we were the only diners, the service was excellent. I opted for the Lionfish fillet with Thai slaw: Much tastier than Grouper and the slaw was incredible. The Thai-fusion chicken with saffron rice was perfectly balanced and there was enough left over for lunch re-heats the next day. Our burger aficionado deemed the Sirloin burger as “way above average.” Serving the invasive lionfish seems like an honourable thing to do and was part of the reason we went. The quality of the food is a reason to return.

Very small, outdoor cafe that serves mostly lionfish dishes. It is billed as a Thai-Mexican fusion restaurant and that hold true. We had four different dishes and all were amazing. From a lionfish filet to Thai lionfish tacos, it was unique, fresh, and very flavorful.

The only thing we wished was different was that the restaurant was on the ocean so that there was some breeze.

“Great Thai-Mayan fusian cuisine”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 May 2014

If this place were on the ocean side of the road instead of the jungle side, and if the owner would decorate it a little more to look like a restaurant, then this place would be a bigger hit.

I loved the vegetarian pad thai. We went for lunch and really enjoyed the food. Will definitely go back!

“A taste of Akumal...”

This is an authentic local dining experience; the layout an ecclectic and comfy mix, seating is outdoors but in the shade, complete with the muy simpatico resident mutts who seems to enjoy fish at least as much as the patrons. :-p
The lion-fish is very tasty ( we had the cheviche and the fillet), and you are doing a good deed for the reef, as they are an invasive species. Not cheap but not expensive; makes for a good lunch stop on your way back after snorkelling.

“Good Experience”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 April 2014

Our plan was to check this out while in Akumal. Mid-day stop and not overly hungry. Ordered a couple of pacifico's and the lion fish fillet. Beers were served in plastic glasses. Prefer my beer served straight up in the bottle.

The fillet had been done in panko and had a green sauce over it. Jasmine rice with sesame seeds and thai cole slaw with ginger. The thai fusion flavors were amazing.

Someone else sitting close by ordered the lion fish tacos which looked pretty darn good.

The fillet was 160 pesos and the beers spendy at 30 pesos each. With tip 264 pesos. We both agreed that it was worth the stop.

Know that you are sitting on the busy Akumal jungle road side. The seating is a little odd. Not sure that I would try this in evening hours - might be buggy but don't know for sure. Also, I like prices on my menu....one of my quirks.
