We rented a bungalow for my family of two adults and two children. It was nice that they did not charge extra for my kids (it seems like about half the hotels in Mexico charge extra, even when kids sleep in existing beds).
The reception was wonderful, the room was older but clean. The beds were very hard but the foam toppers made it bearable. They had free wifi here and there on the property. Yes in the bar, no in the restaurant, yes in the bungalows...
The grounds were absolutely gorgeous. This is the first hotel when you come through the Akumal gate and the road continues through Half Moon Bay to Yal-Ku Lagoon. Outside the gate are some stores, etc. so being in this hotel is convenient, but a little more noisy than other places down the road. The renovated pool area is beautiful and private when the beach can get crowded.
The restaurant was very expensive, but there are many other options. Inside the gate prices are still high, but outside it is a lot cheaper. We didn't make it across the highway to check out the town, but I will next time we go to Akumal, and we'll stay at this same hotel.
