We stayed at The Colonial for 6 nights. We enjoyed our stay very much. The staff met our every need with a smile on their faces. The beach was favorite place to be each day because it is close to all of the action, and there are plenty of chairs to accommodate your needs. We also loved the buffet in the beach every day and the entertainment that was provided. There was someone performing every day during lunch. We also took the Merengue lessons right on the beach one day. It totally reminded me of Dirty Dancing! This resort was a great place to vacation. The food was great, the service was great, and memories were made!

This was a good resort for travelling with a variety of age groups. We had ages 2-73 in the group; 6 kids and 7 adults. The grounds are fun with all of the animals. The kids really enjoyed that aspect as did the adults. The staff was efficient and kind. It rained for 6 of our 7 days so that was a challenge but no one has control over that part. However, our daughter fell and hit her head hard on the wet restaurant area. That was an ordeal that ended with the staff Dr. wanting to give her an injection of anti-inflammatories. We do not do that in the US so I said no thank you and got the heck out of there and gave her Aleve.

The shows were great. Even the teenagers were entertained. The room service was very good and quick. Overall, the food was decent. As with any All Inclusive, it gets old after awhile but there was plenty to eat. Restaurants were fairly easy to get into even with 13 of us. We would make reservations (even though we didn't have to) and most of the time had to be separated into two tables, which was fine. We liked the seafood, Brazilian and steakhouse the best. The show at the Japanese place was great but the food was not fabulous. We knew that as soon as they used a frozen solid steak to cook in the 'show.'

The pools: kids pool was good. Main Colonial pool is too deep for sure. I am 5'7 and could barely stand. It is not as nice as I have seen at other hotels. The white tiles are dated and show their age. The 'chair's in the pool are also dated and not super functional. Not a big deal but I have seen much better pools in Mexico. The teens in our group were very upset that the resort had no hot tub; especially when it was rainy and cold for so much of our trip. We have been to the Barcelo Palace Deluxe a few years ago and the pools and feel there are slightly more resort style. They still had the kids area and their other pools were more functional, in my opinion. The beach at Barcelo is MUCH better than Palladium but they do not have the jungle feel in their grounds and the restaurants and check in procedures were much more difficult than Palladium. So, it depends on what is important to you. We did not go on the beach at all because of the smell and the seaweed. It was feet deep. Not like the photos they show you. Again, not much they can do about it. They were plowing it but there was just too much it was overwhelming.

The rooms. We stayed in the basic room and it was fine. Again, not as luxurious as Barcelo Palace but still very nice. We are not super high maintenance people so it was nice to us. The smile staff decorated our room for our anniversary which was very sweet. My parents stayed in a bigger room with a pull-out couch but they were frustrated because the room had two doubles not queens. They had a lot of issues with the smell in their room and the AC and never did get anything resolved.

One of our family members gifted us with a massage in the Spa. It was fabulous. The facility was luxurious and we really felt pampered in their pools and spas. It was great and first class. Excellent in every way. I wish there were some other part of the resort that felt as glamorous. The TRS side most certainly looked and felt like the Spa, really first class.

The workout facility was great although my kids who run cross country wanted to get in to do their workout and we had to go with them each time. In my mind, if the resort charges them as adults because they are over 12 (14, 15) they should be able to run on the treadmill without us standing there to oversee. They are old enough to be charged as adults they should be old enough to workout. I wouldn't send my younger kids in there--only the high school kids who are perfectly competent.

The house wine really was bad--as everyone has said. I usually drink a $10 bottle in the US and this was equivalent to a $3 kind in the US. Bad. We upgraded a few times or just drank other things.

We booked the Xplor trip through the hotel and even though it was a little more expensive than going by collectivo it was worth it for the convenience and the number of people in our party. It included round trip transportation and 3 lockers. We didn't have to think about anything so it was nice. We also booked a cab to Playa and took the ferry to Cozumel to snorkle. The bell boy reserved a cab that took 8 of us and then came back to pick us up afterward. Nice! We snorkelled with Mystic Snorkel and it was wonderful, despite the rain that kept the visibility fine but not what it would have been in good conditions.

Overall, we had a really good time at the Palladium. It is a good value for the price and a good place for multiple generations.

Dear Jenny,

Thank you so much for sharing your detailed review about your holidays in our paradise.

It was a pleasure welcoming you and your beautiful family, and we are very grateful to know that you were satisfied with the facilities, services and entertainment for all ages that our team provides.

We have taken noted of your kind observations, regarding the food in our Japanese restaurant, the pool, and the house wine-, furthermore we truly apologize for the situations presented in your parent’s room, our Management is aware to take the corresponding actions.

We also appreciate that you recognize our effort to collect the seaweed of the shore, this is a natural phenomenon, it is seasonal, usually our beach is truly amazing.

Again, thank you for your fantastic feedback, we wish to welcome you again in the future.

Kind regards,

The Grand Palladium is a very large property the Colonial being 1 of 4 different segments to this resort. We traveled for a repeat visit this year on the same first week in June. The weather was fantastic, not a drop of rain our entire stay. Lucky our choice of weeks since we missed Alberto. Alberto must have played havoc with the seaweed but that did not dampen our good time. We seemed to mostly camp out at the Secret Pool during the day.

Dining is great breakfast and lunch buffets have huge selections all very good. Dinner at the different cuisines have never disappointed. I think I have eaten at every a la carte in a 2 year period.

All resort staff exceptional, outgoing, helpful and cordial. The Spa is a big recommend from me. Enjoyed the after dinner shows at the Colonial theater and enjoyed watching some Stanley Cup and NBA in the ultra cool A/C Sports Bar.

A unique feature of this resort are the pathways you can navigate through a jungle like canopy. My only complaint is that the resort has a tendency to overly accommodate the TRS Yucatan guests with prime dinner reservations and that some of the shuttle service were designated for TRS only.

Overall another GREAT stay at this resort. I highly recommend a visit!

Secret Pool during the day and hit a different eatery every night.

Having been to The Grand Palladium Colonial now 11 times, I have to say that it never lets us down. The staff has always been very friendly and accommodating, the rooms are always clean, Food is great, Entertainment is great. We always feel like we are treated like royalty. One of the things we like is that there is always something to do if you want to, however, we use this trip as a time to relax so are days are usually spent on the beach and then a trip to the adult pool at the end of the day before heading to dinner. The hours of the restaurants and the bars accommodate anything you could possibly want and then music and dancing to end the evening. We have never been let down and hope to return at least another 11 time!

Room Tip: The villas have 3 floors and we prefer the 2nd or 3rd floor
