“Nice stay in Yucatan”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 August 2014

We stayed in this resort for one week, in "Tulum" hotel (the resort includes 4 hotels enclosed in a very large land). We arrived from Peru and the first impression as 5 stars resort it was not very positive: no one came to help us with luggage before and after the check-in and we had to find ourselves the right bell-boy to ask to bring us to our room (it is impossible to get to your room on your own unless you steal one of their club cars!). After that, we can say that all the personnel was very helpful and nice, so the overall impression about that is more than good.

The room was clean, pretty large, with a real king size bed and air conditioning (mandatory to sleep in August!). In all the common areas there is no air conditioning that makes the stay a bit hard for the high humidity of this season. There were no safe and slippers.

The real reason why my rating is "very good" and not "excellent" is because we were almost scammed by the staff offering us to join the so called "Privilege Club": in my humble opinion should not happen (in a 5 stars resort) to be approached and invited to a "presentation of the resort" that at the end took about 4 hours of our time. I won't go into details but I would recommend to all the guests to beware of anything related to "Privilege Club": this is maybe something it really works but the personnel we met were very kind but absolutely not transparent in their manner.

Last note is about the animals: you will encounter some very nice and funny animals!

Just spent 2 weeks with husband and 16 yr old son. Food excellent, service excellent, exceptionally clean and friendly. Tulum has best evening entertainment,, Akamel has best beach and Coba has 24hr snack bar and aquapark for kids. Can use all services however bit of a trek to go to other hotels even though accessible by free and frequent little trains. Tulum beach is terrible ..you have to cross 4 foot of seaweed before you can enter to a limit of waist height at a few places where there are no rocks. There really isn't enough sunbeds at pool and witnessed several rows taking place over them. Wifi is terrible (dont pay for more usage) and air conditioning non existent - you may think you can live with this but believe me it is unbearable. We stayed in a normal room and it had decent hairdrier - no need to take own (trust), alarm clock, slippers, mini bar - randomly filled (tipping makes no odds), good size, rooms faced other rooms (very few faced sea). 1 hours wifi (continual only) at each hotel and use of 2 laptops at Diamond hotel (free). Trips pricey as expected...rep promised a sighting of whale shark on £200 trip and none were seen...rep promised fireworks at fiesta and all you get is a few sparkles, rep promised lunch at chitchen itza but drinks are not included. Visited Tulum, Playa del Carmen and Chitchen Itza. Tulum and Playa de Carmen only costs £3 return via collectivo outside hotel so worth it. Only costs £2 to get into |Tulum ruins (boring but a day out). Costs about the same to get to Playa del Carmen and worth it as excellent beach and shops. Trip to Chitchen Itza very hot and dare I saying a tad boring but failed to mention they would stop at a cenote (sink hole ) for swimming. All I can say is this place is beyond hot. My son was out in sun for less than an hour in sea and his back blistered like port scratching over night, turned black and then had to seek medical help and stay in room all week. I would recommend choosing another hotel and making sure beach is seaweed and rock free before I paid out for a trip to mexico. Also another wind up is that everything in shops is priced up in american dollars, few shops take dollars and if they do give you change in pesos. Hotel only changes money to pesos but to use call box to call home only takes dollars (costs 500 dollars per minute in room). Airport tax can only be paid in pesos or UK cash not dollars, cc or debit card. In summary a decent hotel but if you want a great beach, wifi and air cond go somewhere else - sorry. Change hotel now!

Room Tip: i could nt say what the other rooms were like but some have a jaccuzi bath (if you reallly want one...

Just got back from Bahia Tulum last night, and I just loved this place. We stayed for a week, and we had 9 people at our party ranging from 21 months to 63 years old. We stayed at the hacienda part of Tulum, and even though we made our reservations, 6 months ago, I was kind of upset that we were not able to choose our rooms, but it kind of worked out okay. So if you are wondering if the hacienda part is worth the extra money, here are some details that might help you to make a decision. 1. Tulum beach is really rocky, nearly impossible for a toddler to swim in. But you can take a bus to Akumal and use the beautiful Coba beach over there. (with 2 bars, right next to the pool and incredible buffet) 2. If you stay on the hacienda side, you can use a private pool and Tequila restaurants for lunches. Our rooms were in building 33, 34, and 35, so we were right next to the Tulum buffet, which I thought was great, and not as busy as the rest of the buffets. 3. Rooms were very spacious, and quiet, which was very appreciated during nap times. 4. Air conditioning worked great in all of our rooms. Just to let people know, if you are traveling with a toddler and you request a crib for them, you wont get one. They use pack and plays instead, and they come with extremely thin/uncomfortable mattresses. So BRING your own crib sheet, and blankets to make the bed comfortable for your child. Now, lets talk about food: if you like to eat at any of the gourmet restaurants, you have to make your reservation the second you get there. Even though all the restaurants we went to were mostly empty, we still had very hard time making reservations. We ate at Dolce Vita (Italian/incredible service), Arlequin, Le Gourmet and my favorite Don Pablo. At the end I realized though, buffet is just as good if not better than the sit down restaurants!!! Overall, we had a great time at a great place with incredibly nice and helpful people. I hope this review helps, please let me know if you have any questions!

My husband and myself went to The Grand Bahia Principe Tulum on June 18th for a 2 Week holiday,,,The weather was amazing,,,but i have to say i didnt expect that Humidity,,,,,,,The Hotel was amazingly Clean,,,the food was out of this world,,the service was great,
The only thing that i think let the resort down was the entertainment in the Lobby it finished at 10.30 ish,,,Dont get me wrong you could go to the Haccienda,,,there was a Disco there but i think there should be something on till about 12 at the Tullum lobby bar,, All in all iwe had a lovely time and i would go back again.

Spent 9 days here in late 2013 and absolutely loved it. Food was awesome, all the rooms are ocean view so that's nice. Rooms are nicely updated. 24 hour snack bar open which is nice if you are up late partying. Akumal had the best shows, it's cool that you can use all the resorts and their amenities. Loved shopping at the Hacienda, I think we were there every day almost lol. Only downfall is how far it is from the airport but big deal...you are in Mexico on vacation!

After just returning home from our stay at the GBP My wife and myself would like to thank all staff and management for giving us what can only be described as a fantastic holiday.. It seems that fortunately a few people seem to take enjoyment in giving poor review on trip advisor. The one's that have poorly rated this hotel must have stopped somewhere different to us. Everything about our stay was great from the moment we arrived to the moment we left everything was good from the surroundings to the food which was first class. We are looking forward to returning next year.
