“Fantastic holiday”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 July 2014

We stayed here for 2 weeks from 24th May. What a great place, looks a huge complex which was overwhelming at first but you can walk from one lobby to another. Room was lovely, well maintained, cleaned every day. Staff here work extremely hard and friendly especially in food/bar areas so don't forget to take dollar bills for tipping. Food was great, lots of choice so you won't get bored. Lovely place will certainly go back. Only downside was the tour/hard sell to buy into the golden club, great if you go here all the time but not for us as a family. Did get a good beach bag out of it though.

Stayed 13th june to28th lovely clean hotel clean rooms although they do smell advise to take pouches to absorb the moisture for drawers and wardrobe & a small air freshener food is not great at coba & was always cold we ate at akumal food was far better had a problem with the kids club against my better judgement i put my 4yr old in &. Explained to keep an eye in him because of his age they put him on one of the transportation buggies they have which fly about with no way of keeping him safely inside just a small rail at the end of the seat he could have fallen out no bother we had to chase after him on another to go and get him to make sure he hadn't fallen off a scary 45 min to go and get him never put him back in again so beware if you have young kids they are not vigilant with them the kids also wear a shoelace necklace thing around their neck to show they are in the kids club i would return to akumal possibly but not coba room cleaned to a high standard as for mini bar tipping is the way to go worked for the couple we were with but our was restocked on and off the Japanese and italian restaurants were good didn't try any others I've stayed at the grand sirenis and preferred it although overall the stay was good and enjoyable just to add kids water park is a nightmare beware of the wooden bridge very slippery and unsafe suggest water shoes for kids

At the resorting the lounge having a coffee whilst the boys watch the footie . The is very nice but huge thank god for the little buses . One major drawback is the sun beds they are always taken before nine in the morning which completely puts me off this resort . You don't come on holiday to spend your time trawling for a sun bed . I have read this before on tripadvisor so why do they not fix the problem . Staff fab food good pristine clean not great at stocking the fridge and giving coffee in rooms but that is minor . One pool table with not enough balls in the table for teenagers to play and the sports bar at the hacienda does not open until 7.00 which has two pool tables . Come on Bahia get your act together . Just the bed situation is dire and I would think twice about booking this resort again .
P.s loads of beds but all reserved with blue towels and the best thing you never see anyone sitting on them . Not good .

5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 July 2014

We stayed at the GBC between 17th June and 1st July. Family of 4 with two boys aged 16 and 8.
We had concerns about the weather prior to our holiday as several weather websites showed storms every day for about two months. However, the weather was perfect. Hot and sunny every day. The websites continued to show stormy weather even on these dates???????
Transfer to hotel was about 80 minutes. We used USA transfers who were excellent. About £90 return. Arranged by email and paid full amount when we got there. Picked up no problems on either leg of transfer.
Prior to attending I emailed the hotel who even exceeded all our requests. As we have used Bahia hotels before we we upgraded to the Golden Club which brings certain benefits. Our request regarding adjoining rooms was met and we had champagne and fruit in room on arrival.
We were told that you could no longer book a la carte restaurants in advance, however when we arrived I found that they had all been booked as requested. Excellent customer service.
Rooms were in block 1 which in our opinion was an excellent location. Next to Premier Lobby which was good for drinks and also had Cozumel restaurant we used for breakfast. You could also get trams from the lobby to rest of resort. Even though it was next to lobby which had Daqarui Bar with live music on a night, this did not disturb us and it finished by about 10:30pm.
It was 30 second walk to the quiet pools and 5 minute walk to activity pool, Coba lobby and Akumel lobby and beach.
Rooms were good. Very clean, no mold or musty smell. Air Con and ceiling fans kept room cool.
Jacuzzi bath in one room and massive walk in shower in second room. Mini bar restocked every day with water, coke, fanta, water and lager. Also potato chips and snickers. Door linking rooms. Two doubles in one room and massive King bed in the other.
Resort is massive taking into account Akumel and Tulum. Could use all three resorts.
Very similar resorts but also clean and with loads of wildlife. Coatis, iguanas and several tropical birds roaming around. Very entertaining.
We liked the Coba Lobby and buffet, however it was warmer than other lobbies and buffet as there was no sea breeze. Could get a bit hot at times, but hey, you are in a warm country so it was no problem. I did notice that on our last day there that the air con was on in the buffet restaurant and this made a big difference. Our favourite buffet was Tulum as it was a bit cooler with sea breeze and also felt a bit more tropical with courtyard in the centre of restaurant. We were not fans of the layout of the Akumel buffet.
Tried several a la cartes, all excellent. Favourites were the Brazilian which served numerous tasty meats which you directed with a red/ green card. Fun and tasty.
We also did Japanese restaurant at Coba. We had a show table (highly recommend ). The cooking and service was fantastic and was probably the best entertainment we had all week. Excellent but book early as in demand. The kids loved it.
Drinks were good and varied and service was not an issue.
Trams ran frequently and we never waited more than 5 minutes for one. We ate in several restaurants at Tulum and getting a tram there mad it feel like you were having a night out.
On one occasion we had been waiting a few minutes for a tram and when the a Concierge asked where we were going he took us instead. Some people had been waiting a few minutes for a tram and started moaning. I suggest they need to chill out. You could easily walk between Coba and Akumel but it was a bit further to Tulum and I would recommend a tram.
Pools were good. What was good for us is that in all of the pools, our eight year old could easily touch the bottom of the pool and stand up. This was excellent peace of mind and we could watch him from afar with peace of mind.
Older son loved the activity pool and was there all day every day. Made several friends, including the animation team. Thank you Alfonso, Aurora , Alejandro,Victor and Raymond. There were several games of water polo, water volleyball, darts, bingo. Both sons even did the Spanish lessons and were able to converse with the staff with basic greetings and questions in Spanish which they appeared to appreciate.
We participated in the towel game on a daily basis and if you snooze you lose. Despite the signs saying otherwise, this practice was accepted to reserve sunbeds. However it also gave me the incentive to get up and use the gym at 7am. Gym was small and basic but more than suitable for what you need.
Nightly entertainment was biggest letdown. Rotated on a weekly basis, which is poor when many travellers from Europe are there for a fortnight. Michael Jackson and International show were good, but some of the others were poor. We went to a Fire show at Tulum which attracted a large crowd by the pool. The show consisted of 3 people attempting to juggle light sticks... And failing. Within 5 minutes about half the crowd had left. Not sure it was meant to be a comedy show but that is what it turned in to.
You also had the choice of live music in several lobbies as an alternative. On a positive note the poor entertainment meant the whole family have improved their card and domino skills over several piña coladas. Good family time.
Beaches were really good and safe and good snorkelling near the pier on Akumel beach.Nice breeze.
All staff were excellent and customer service good. We had a phone call each week to check how holiday was going. Nice touch.
We did Dolphin show at Tulum. Very enjoyable and booked online using wi fi in the lobbies which made it much cheaper.
We got all, photos on a CD and DVD afterwards. Didn't find staff pushy, however got them down from $375 to $105.
Went to Akumel in taki and did guided snorkelling tour. Saw loads of turtles About £100 for all 4 of us including taxi fare. Glad we used the guide.
Went to Playa del Carmen one night. Fine with kids although stuck to 5th Av. Owners will try numerous tactics to get you in shops, but a no Gracias will suffice. Kids found them funny. They even recognise you all inc wristbands and will say "hey, saw you at the grand Bahia earlier" lol Got collectivo there and taxi back. Had a meal and three rounds of drinks. About £100.
My eldest son wanted to do horse riding which First Choice don't offer. We booked with Andreas of Apple vacations in Premier lobby. Did this at Punta Vendas. Was good experience and combined it with swim in a Cenote. About £180 all in. Had small lunch and a drink included.
If you are going to this hotel then you will enjoy it. Thank you to all of the staff.

We have been to Mexican Riviera 10 times and 3 of them have been to this property. It is large and offers 4 distinct areas for those wanting to party it up or to just sit and relax in quiet. The diversity of the specialty restaurants is great and the service is fantastic. This was our 2nd time taking our 11 year old twins and they loved it both times and wan to go back. The property is about an hour and a half south of Cancun which is a bit far, but very quiet. You are minutes away from Tulum and Xel-Ha which were great excursions for our family. Overall would do it again.

Room Tip: You want to be near your food options and away from the pools-especially those with swim up bars. We...

Me and my other half stayed here on the 16th of June, for two weeks. It was absolutely amazing. Had a fab time. The hotel is huge. Clean and tidy. There are several resterants, bars and pool. Food is excellent, and they have a wide range of choose and a section for kids. A wide range of drinks. And they have brand spirts. The staff are very welcoming and the can seem to do enuff for you. We did three trips while we was there and they are a must do if your visiting. Dolphins, Jungle Maya and Coco Bongos. Fantastic. I would defo go back to the resort. And for the people who are looking at the bad review. Please take no notice. Couldn't really fault the hotel or staff.
