We are just back from a great trip to Mexico.
The hotel exceeded our expectations.
It was spotless the staff are the nicest happiest we have ever encountered. Roberto in the Bar. Anna and Alan the concierge's in 2004 are great. And Roberto in the buffet restaurant was a pleasure to meet.
the trips around the area where great ,Xel-Ha and Explor where great value.

Had a wonderful 2 weeks Holiday in May 2013.Staff are very friendly and attentive waiter service was excellent especially on the beach. Room was clean and well maintained. The food in the buffet restaurant was very good always plenty to choose from and always hot.
The al a carte restaurants were worth going to especially the Brazilian. French was a bit disappointing though.
Don't be put of by the pictures on the hotels website as they don't do the hotel any favours it's much nicer than it looks.
A short bus ride (colectivo) to Akumel is a must and swim with the turtles.

We arrived tired and weary from a long flight with no in-flight entertainment (boring) and found ourselves in the huge reception area (one of two) in this enormous hotel. We were given a drink and after a little while were checked in. We were asked if we would like to upgrade to an ocean view room, we asked how much and were told £175. As this was a holiday for a special occasion we decided to treat ourselves. We were then promptly taken by golf buggy to our room (and I received my first but not last mosquito bite). Our room was much as we expected - large with a hole in the wall to the bathroom. As we were tired and it was late, we went to have a bite to eat in the buffet restaurant before bed. Upon waking we were greeted with our beautiful ocean view which was well worth the money and our first experience of Mexican weather. It was fairly cool until about 8:30 most days so if you like an early morning run it is perfect. We spent the first few days getting used to the hotel layout and finding out where everything was. This was really enjoyable and the hotel is a mayan architectural masterpiece. The hotel buildings and landscaped gardens are really beautiful and lovely to walk round and explore. We were helped by our friendly concierge Majid who advised us about the hotel and also making the most of our holiday, he was very knowledgeable about the area and always had time for a chat. In fact thanks to Majid we were invited to attend a premium club event. Basically, everybody is invited but lots of people seem worried about this being some sort of timeshare heavy sales event. In reality we had a nice breakfast, got to view the premium suites which were beautiful and were invited to join the premium club - we may consider this in future but at the moment its not right for us. We then were given 100 sirenis dollars that you could spend in the hotel or on trips - we put ours towards a trip (Xenotes Oasis). Majid also helped us to book and select our a la carte reservations which were all excellent. However, some were better than others. We chose to go to the Japanese one twice because we enjoyed it so much. The steak house and the Brazilian were also fantastic, the Cajun was OK. The pool areas in the hotel are good however, there were few sunbeds that weren't reserved illegally by about 9:30. This is more to do with attitudes of holiday makers than a fault of the hotel but perhaps they could have had more? The beach was our preferred place and was very pretty as it is like a little cove. However, it is a bit rocky to get in - beach shoes essential and the sea was quite lively on most days. Not as many fish as we were expecting - perhaps we have been spoiled by Egypt on the snorkelling front as nowhere else seems to compare. The gym at this hotel is great, air conditioned and well equipped. The whole spa building needs to be seen to be believed. The wildlife at the hotel was a pleasure to see the iguanas lazing in the sun and the cheeky raccoons scavenging for food late at night. We would definitely return here and would recommend to others.

Room Tip: Mayan beach side high floor.

There was nothing that really blew my mind about this hotel. When we first arrived, our room was so dirty that we had to be asked to transfer to a different room. This hotel is also definitely more for big families than it is for singles or couples. There are kids running around everywhere and everything seems to be dirty because of them. One of the highlights was that the food in each of the unique restaurants was exceptional! However, the buffets were usually pretty bland.

I also thought the spa looked amazing; however, I was recommended that I get a special hour and a half massage that I paid a lot of money for and it turned out that they only massage you for 10 minutes!! For the rest of the time, they make you sit in a tub, then a sauna and then lay with warm blanket on your back... a total rip-off! So beware of what you're getting at the spa.

The beach and pool areas were very nice and if you go, you must try out the free snorkelling! You don't have to swim far at all until your surrounded by tons of beautiful fish that live around the coral. The only downfall is that the resort is so big, it takes you about a half hour to walk back and forth to your room from the pools and beaches.
