Grand Sirenis Riviera Maya Resort & Spa

Stayed here over March Break last year and had a great vacation! I've been to Mexico many times over the years and to the Akumal area a few times and this hotel is comparable to any I've been to. Rooms were large and comfortable and, yes, there was smoked glass separating the Jacuzzi to the room but there were also smoked doors on both the shower and toilet area so at no point did either of us feel exposed. Room was always well cleaned and balcony had a nice view.

The Concierge service for each building was a great feature and our concierge was awesome! He always greeted us when we walked by, had lots of tips for things to do, and booked our a la cartes with no issues. Yes we did go to the time share presentation on a rainy day...it was cool to see the suites and we in no way felt pressured to buy anything. We got a free couples massage and a bottle of tequila for the few hours we gave up so we found it worthwhile and, as it was a yucky day, we didn't mind.

The resort is HUGE! Lots of cool things to see and explore. Pools are well kept and swim up bars were great! We never had issues finding chairs around the pool or getting towels. There are 3 BIG pools at this resort as well as the lazy river. We loved the lazy river and spent a lot of time down in this area as it's close to the beach bar. Beach isn't huge but there's lots going on and snorkeling isn't bad in the cove. The little Mayan ruin at the beach was really cool as well.

Lobby area was large and had comfy chairs...we spent most nights relaxing here and having a few drinks. Servers were plentiful and we never had a long wait for a drink. The theatre for shows was right beside this area so we caught most of the shows. They were entertaining.

Food was excellent. Buffets had a huge selection and the a la cartes we tried were really good as well. We went to the Mexican and the Steak House....both were good. The coffee shop was handy as well and the ice cream parlour wasn't bad either.

All in all we had a good time here and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone.

We just returned from the Grand Sirenis and had an overall great time at this resort. Lots of enjoyable amenities here! Great beachfront access for ocean swimming & snorkelling, or if you prefer, different pools depending on your needs (ie. party area pool,or quieter relaxing pool, as well as a kiddie pool) and even a lazy river to float around on. The grounds here are impecabbly maintained and all of the staff were very friendly and helpful. The food is quite good with lots of variety at the buffets and the specialty a la carte restaurants were fantastic - we ate at the Italian, Brazilian, and Japanese specialty ones and all were great! Soon after arriving at the resort, go to your building concierge and have them book your reservations for the a la carte restaurants - you are only allowed 3 specialty restaurant choices per week and you require reservations to eat at them. The resort is quite spread out so be prepared to do a fair amount of walking - but there is also a golf cart shuttle system to get you around if necessary (I have no idea how often this shuttle system operates as we preferred to get the exercise and walk).
I do also have a couple of negative comments about our stay at this hotel. There is quite a bit of noise heard when you are inside your room - each building has an open-aired lobby which echoes and amplifies the noise dramatically 24 hrs/day. Our room was on the ground floor so the noise was non-stop so we had to sleep with earplugs in. Other reviewers comments about the slippery floors when wet, were not exaggerated! It is actually quite dangerous in some areas so I am amazed they haven't done more to fix this! The nightly entertainment shows are quite mickey-mouse and for such a large resort this area needs much improvement - which was rather disappointing given the fantastic outdoor theater that is here.
On our scale gauge, we would give this place 3.5 stars.
We had some friends visit the Mayan Riviera last year and they gave us some tips on travelling around here in a much more affordable manner on the local buses (as opposed to paying the high prices for some excursions). We did exactly this to visit Tulum city, Tulum ruins, and Coba and we felt very safe and spent 1/3 of the cost in comparison to the pricey excursions we checked out. If you would like to know more about this, message me thru the Trip Advisor website and I will gladly send you the info.

Room Tip: Specify you DO NOT want a ground floor room.

If you are planning to use public transport (Colectivos), the hotel is a kind of far from a town (Tulum 30 mins, Playa del Carmen 45 mins)by taxi you would pay around 400 MXN (35 USD).
The quality of the food in the main buffet is average, you better make your reservations in Individual International restaurants, those are by far better and are also included, try to book as early as possible as are pretty small and could get full. Quality of cocktails are poor in most of the bars, you should stay with beer. A person in the shop tried to convince and sell me a 30 year old Tequila, that’s nonsense… it simply doesnt exist! The prices in the SPA are too high, I wouldnt recommend to do that.
Overall, the hotel is good

We just returned from a week stay at Grand Sirenis. Our overall stay was good,The food was good and the staff were friendly. The beach and ground were beautiful and the pools were great. The rooms were in poor condition and were in need of an update the furniture was old and falling apart. The beds were hard and old with terrible pillows and blankets! We opted to do an upgrade after seeing the rooms and paid an extra 500$ for an ocean view room.At he end of our stay after speaking to other couples who did the same upgrade and only paid 150$.We complained when we checked out but they did nothing to resolve our issues and complaints! I would not go back there unless they do some serious upgrades! We also heard from others who stayed that there room was full of mold and one couple had the ceiling in the bathroom come down!

I will start with saying that this hotel is not a five star as advertised in my opinion. First of all the customer service on the main desk is atrocious. Our ceiling in the bathroom bowed out with water and exploded all over the bathroom twice and we rang the front desk to report it, their response was can you call back in five minutes. It was more than an hour in both instances before anyone came to our room to repair and clean up. The house keeping were very polite and apologetic and replaced our towels and mats. Their apology and overall attitude towards us was very good compared to reception. I also had my iphone stolen from my bag at the pool so we reported it and completed some forms with security. But the next day we enquired to see if it was handed in nobody knew anything about our report. We obviously didnt expect interrogations but at least our report to be on record. The food in main buffet was good and in the a la cartes was very good. What wasnt good or appetising was large holes in the ceiling from water damage above the pizza or knives and forks. Our sea view that we paid a premium for was a complete rip off, from the balcony view about one tenth was sea even that was blocked by trees. It is worth saying here that if you want a proper full on sea view this isnt available unless you upgrade to the executive premium guest scheme which you can pay for when you get there. This is the only block were you can see the beach from. But there were good things too. Housekeeping, bar staff and entertainment crew were fantastic. Always polite and cheerful, looked after you and did little extras you dont expect. Hotel and rooms always spotless and looked lovely. Whirlpool bath was fantastic and lovely huge rooms with big balconies. Beach was gorgeous and combed every morning so no seaweed or rubbish. Excellent spa even if it was VERY expensive. £75 for deluxe gel mani and pedi. if it wasnt for my boyfriend proposing here i would have been totally upset as it wasnt good value for money. We wouldnt return to or recommend this hotel but we would recommend mexico fod the local people, culture, history and natural beauty.

If TA would let me give half points I would have given this a 3.5 instead of 4. So I round up because math says so :o)

We stayed here Dec 11 - 18, 2013. We're a family of 6, with kids 16, 12, 9 & 9. Overall the resort was decent. It is pretty big, and takes a while to get orientated. The grounds are well maintained, rooms are clean and decor is very modern'esque. The food in the various buffets is pretty standard issue from an all inclusive perspective. We were only able to get two a la carte bookings - the Cajan & Brazilian. The Brazilian was by far the best meal we had there. The Cajan was pretty lackluster. We didn't get hassled too much to do the timeshare, just one good solid effort from the concierge.

It's odd that they consider this two hotels because it really should be called one. They have two check in lobby's but beyond that, there are no distinguishing features or borders. Maybe the rooms are different somewhere? No clue - all the amenities are shared. When we were there it rained and the floor are super slippery, it's no coincidence that you read that a lot in the reviews, it's no joke. Also, when it rains, the drain from the upper floor is designed to land right in the middle of your balcony - assuming your not on the top.

The Good:
- If you a coffee drinker, find the coffee shop centrally located, near the quite pool
- MMMM... ice cream. Ice cream shop located by the south pool
- Plenty of friendly staff members at the resort
- The Lazy river is pretty chill
- One of the better gyms that I've seen at a resort
- Pretty good snorkeling off the shore

The Not so Good:
- The same activity routine each day (at the activity pool)
- Waiting for a drink because the bartender is waiting to get the shotglasses back from the folks at the other end of the bar for your drink.
- The only place for a drink after 11 is the disco

Everything is very grand in the presentation, with the large lobbys and shiny floors. But somehow that makes it feel kind of empty and a little less than warm.

Went to the Grand Sirenis with our son and daughter in law. They had been there the previous year for their honeymoon. From the beginning it was not close to a five star experience. Concierge staff were pushing the tim share meetings continuously and when they wee told you weren't interested they basically ignored any needs or concerns you may have had. The rooms and food were ok. I have had better at four star resorts. ( I have been to Mexico 9 times). The entertainment was blah. The breaking point was when both my wife and daughter in law developed ear infections. The on site medical personnel immediately pushed the trip to the private hospital for only $700. Just to get a note to get our money back was $110 in pesos which turned into $123 when I saw my credit card bill. My advice to anyone looking at this resort, think again. There are better places with more to offer and less hassle.
