We have been guests at least 10 weeks since the hotel opened about 10 years ago. This time we were disappointed with the food quality in all the specialty restaurants as well as the overall service level at the hotel. The only meal we were impressed with was the "Chef's Night" special at el Jardin. On another night in el Jardin the salad bar was never restocked for customers and the service was so slow we lost our appetite for the meal before the entre was served. At Rodizio, the meat was of poor quality and cooked so much it was not edible. The lunch buffet is the best meal of the day but it too was less varied than in prior years. We are happy to have new premium beverages (Don Julio and Chivas) available at the Royal Suites pool and bar.

We were upset that some of the guests allowed their children to use the pool as a toilet. We found feces (crap) in the pool. It would be nice to restrict children in diapers to a special kiddie pool.

It seems to us that there is a definite reduction in quality and value. The only area where we were surprised with an improvement in quality is the nightly entertainment. The shows are much better than we remember from previous visits.

The rooms were kept clean though the floors were not cleanly mopped when we arrived. The Mayan shower did not drain properly. We were glad the requirement for room card keys in the air conditioner was not required this visit and the air conditioner cooled the room very well. We did not like the plastic mattress covers as it caused us to be wet at night unless we kept the room very cold.

We think the ecological design of the resort makes it one of the best choices in the Riveria Maya but the declining food quality and service level is a major problem.

Room Tip: Stay in the Mayan suite (bungalos) if you enjoy quiet and privacy.

My hubby and I went there for our 25th wedding anniversary and we had a lovely time, I would actually give The Royal a 3.5 if I could, so we'll start with the bad and finish with the good.
The bad; Room service food, yecch everytime, stale bread etc, just gross. The Royal beach, what Royal beach, it's just part of the main beach where every man and his dog goes including kids, don't think you'll be swimming without them hanging around. The Royal beach bar- again anyone can get a drink there, no priority service for Royals. They'll serve you if you speak Spanish, the waiter there whose name started with a H was bordering on being a racist, fair dinkum he was rude. Although the waitress from there was adorable and sweet, worked very hard, found that with all the women at the resort. Nicer than the men. El Jardin- hit and miss, Lobster was always gross and dried out and tasted like salt water, steak you get with the lobster was really fatty, the crumbed
prawn dish dry. Looked good tasted blah. The waiters there always talked to you in Spanish, didn't want to learn another language, just eat. The gym was pathetic for women, no hand weights under 10kg. The gym palladium guy would rather work out and watch friends than help you. The computers in the Royal lobby were set up again for Spanish people in Spanish. Ok I've whinged enough, Now for the good :), Our jacuzzi suite, lovely, champagne on arrival in our suite, very nice. Always cleaned lovely everday by Felix and his crew and they were always friendly and courteous. The Royal Pool, nice, you can even get iceblocks!, drinks were always good, chi chi and banana rama my favs. Feeding the iguana the fruit by the pool in the morning is cool. They're Also on the rocks on the walk towards the sea pool which is also really cool. Loved seeing all the animals roaming free around the place, so many of them, the racoons are a riot, they were always trying to raid the storage room of our building, every now and then you'd here a crash bang and you knew these little devils were at work. The whole complex- simply amazing, so beautiful and so so clean, the marble floors in every lobby were always sparkling, just a joy to explore. The fact that you could get a drink at any bar and walk along the beach with it whenever you felt like it was great the place is enormous. I agree with the people that have said the best food is at the big buffets, there is something for everyone there. The staff at them, the women especially were lovely, you were serenaded by singers and you could actually have a glass of wine AI there. We only went to 2 restaurants besides El Jardin, Ribs and More, yecch, Portofino was nice, the lasagna good and the dessert with the icecream in the middle yummy. The best night we had there was our 25th wedding anniversary, and we had the Romantic dinner, I would thoroughly recommend this. We had the most amazing night. I felt like I was on a fantasy date from the bachelor. Our setting near the beach was lit up with torches and candles, it was a full moon and it was such a romantic setting. The food was amazing, the best food by far that we had there, now that's what I call lobster. Our waiter Noi was so charming and fun and we were serenaded by the most wonderful singers. We had selected our wine but were given champagne as well. It was well worth the $200. Then we came home to the romantic room set up with candles and our jacuzzi filled bubblebath also lovely, mind you that costs $35 for that it's not free, you get champagne with it and it was delightful, best night ever, one my hubby and I will never forget. So there you have it, hope this helps, if you're staying here you'll love it, Go to the big buffets to eat and you'll be right, oh maybe learn some Spanish, we're from Australia and with our accents it was a bit bewildering for some staff lol.

Me and mu husband went to the Royal Suites for the second part of our honeymoon and we loved it!
The room was amazing, really big and with everything you could wish for. The minibar was re-stocked every day and we would find a different decoration made with towels every day.
One night we went out for a romantic dinner and when we came back the jacuzzi was filled and the balcony was covered in rose petals, we also had a bottle of champagne in the chiller, it was magical!
The staff was really nice and super helpful. The atmosphere is just great and it's pretty amazing to feel so special!
I would totally go back! A great place to relax and explore the beautiful coral reef.
The spa was pretty amazing too!
I definitely recommend this hotel if you are visiting the area.

My girlfriend and I had stayed here a few years ago with some friends, and were due for some R&R this year. We stayed at the Palladium White Sands last time, and were really impressed. This time around, we decided to pay a bit more and stay at the Royal Suites Yucatan.

This side of the resort is amazing!!! We were given a cabana on the water, and were neighbours with our friends.

From the outdoor sitting area on the deck with sun beds, to the Mayan Shower (which really means, outdoor shower, under the sky) I couldn't ask for more.

Hurricane season had just ended, and the weather was good. We had rain for maybe an hour every other day, but for the most part were close to 100 degrees with humidity daily. The resort was getting work done daily, as they were touching up some things that most likely got ruined from the rough weather.

All of the staff was more than willing to help with anything I asked, and even went out of their way to help when it wasn't asked for at all.

The upgrade included reservations nightly at the A La Cartes, and premium bottles in the room. I would recommend this resort to anyone I come across who is looking for a wonderful time in the Mayan.

Room Tip: Cabana suite has an outdoor shower, and there is not an indoor one. Just something to get used to.

Arrived Nov 6 for 10 days Leaving for home tomorrow
Check in was fantastic. Arrived early and our room was ready Cecelia was amazing, what a sweet young women. Always a smile and ready to help. Room was beautiful 1 bedroom suite 3rd floor as requested. Room was decorated as we were celebrating our 43 rd wedding anniversary. Very very nice.
Resort is very large but it is so fun exploring and finding something new everyday. Getting around is really very easy once you figure out walk ways, golf cart etc.
The people who are here to serve you are what makes this resort so special. Cecelia amazing front desk, Santos pool bar always smiling, Frank golf card driver always fun to be around , Lucy best service you will ever receive just a few very special people
The food is not very good just a lot of it . We are not picky but were not impressed with any of the restaurants, they were all very nice, service very good but food not so good, El Jardin was fantastic for breakfast since he was just a few steps from our room. Ordered lobster but could not get it out of the shell so didn't eat it Room service was amazing in the middle of a rain storm it arrived to our room in 30 minutes . Food was hot and pretty good,
This is not a 4-5 star resort but it could be with attention to detail
The pool has Bali beds one is broken and is wrapped in yellow tape, ok there is a problem fix it or remove it. One of the golf cart has gas fumes so strong you get a headache if you sit in last seat. Coffee was spilled in the 3rd floor hallway of our building and was there for 5 days. Royal suites are suppose to be a step up but not true in all areas. The cushions on the lounge chairs are pretty worn, but if you go to the other adult pool at the White Sands they have super thick cushions. Bali bed cushions have been changed on 3 of the beds the other 2 are pretty gross.
Wasn't going to list complaints but this site helped me and I wanted to be as honest as possible
Had a great time but ready to go home

Room Tip: All room are great in Royal Suites
