The beach in front of the hotel is lovely with white sand, clear blue water, and a picturesque dead tree in the shallows that invites photographers. There's an attractively landscaped courtyard between the the two sides of the hotel with a man-made "river" and curvy boardwalk. Our standard room was minimal -- two beds, one nightstand, and a small armoire. Other room categories may be better. Although the room was small, the high ceiling helped it feel bigger. The ceiling fan worked so well that we didn't use the air conditioning. Lighting was dim, and there was no good light for reading in bed -- only a piece of lighted artwork above the headboard that didn't really help. Normally we wouldn't spend much time in the room in a beautiful place like Mahahual, but this trip there were torrential rain storms and we were indoors a lot. There was no table or chair in the room, which was inconvenient for writing, eating in, or playing cards, etc. There's not much of a lobby or other public room in the hotel to hang out in when it's raining (or at least we didn't find one). The restaurant is comfortable and opens right onto the beach. Service was the slowest of anywhere we ate in town, but there wasn't really any reason to hurry so we didn't mind. Other than in the restaurant, we didn't come across any English-speaking staff, but everyone was very tolerant of our imperfect Spanish.
