Stayed in December (end) and January 2012 (beginning).....its a delightful property. Located 15 minutes from the main town on a long curving beach front, two properties down from the Mayan Beach Garden. No two rooms are the same. They are huge and very well appointed. The views from the top floor are to die for. Lots of birds for those who are into photography. David is an amazing host and Chewy and Pinta are a delight to play with. The only negatives are that it has no attached kitchen so you need to venture out. Will visit once again.....if things go well....

It's hard to describe what a perfect place the Taj Majahual is for a group vacation. The setting is incredibly beautiful and isolated. The beach is the best in the area. The house is so well-appointed and comfortable to hang out in that we hardly wanted to leave. Since culinary skills ran rampant in our group of friends we prepared most of our meals in the fabulous kitchen and had wonderful dinners together. The small town of Majahual is a short 30 minute drive and we were able to find most everything we needed (produce, tortillas, cerveza and tequila) there. The quality of the ingredients that we found were far superior to what we're used to in the States. So fresh and tasty. The eggs alone could inspire a separate review! We also took a couple of day trips to view the ruins at Chaccoben ( we were the only ones there), enjoy lunch, cocktails and swimming at the Cenote Azul and Hotel Laguna in Bacalar, and snorkeling in Xcalak. Just down the road is the Mayan Beach Garden where we had dinner on our first and last nights. Marsha and Kim are great hosts and Bill, the bartender, is the "Dude" incarnate. Watch out for his margaritas! The food there is excellent and the opportunity to meet and converse with fellow travelers is a plus. Speaking of service, the folks who operate the Taj are first rate. Gabe the owner was very helpful prior to our visit, giving us good tips on how to best arrange our stay and what to expect when we got there. Best of all was Dave, the caretaker, a really good guy from Dallas, who was full of info on the area and always ready to take the extra step to exceed our expectations. Bonus for dog lovers - three terrific pooches (Senorita, Chewy and Pinta) who ably filled in for our dog who couldn't make the trip. We are already talking about when we can go back, but in the meantime, the effects of the Taj Majahual continue to linger and color everyday with a profound sense of happiness and well-being. My favorite vacation ever.

The Taj Mahahual was awesome... The owner was super attentive, gave us all sorts of useful information on Mahahual and Mexico in general. When we got there, I realized that the pictures really didn't do it justice; both the house and the beach are beautiful. We hung out on the beautiful white sands, had the shade of the palapas if we needed it, and had the garden behind us. Overall, it was super relaxing and fun.

The caretaker Dave was super attentive, made sure that we had everything that we needed and provided a wealth of information in response to all our questions. The room was incredibly functional, comfortable, and well decorated cool Mexican art. The balcony hammock was perfect. The thing that made this place one notch above the others though was the small fridge (we stayed in the Jungle room), the purified water out of the tap, and the hot showers. That's just not something that we could find in any other intimate setting in Mexico. The combination of all of the above just really made us really comfortable.

Taj Mahahual is located close enough to food and beer at the Maya Beach Gardens but, I have to admit, we were really excited we didn't stay at that place because- to be honest- we just didn't want to be around all those people all the time. Being able to go to MBG, eat dinner, then leave again to the comfort of Taj Mahahual was priceless. It also wasn't a far trip to the town of Mahahual where there was a larger assortment of restaurants and entertainment.

Overall: highly recommended.

My husband and I stayed at the Taj Mahahual in December 2009. We loved it! The home is new and absolutely lovely. It is stylish and upscale but not pretentious or overwhelming… well a little overwhelming… but in an “I’m so happy we picked this place!!” way. We lived in the Sultan’s Suite (w/ kitchen, living room and 2 bathrooms). The breezes are incredible! Because the entire house is on the second floor, you can feel comfortable about sleeping with your windows wide open to enjoy the amazing ocean breezes. The ocean side of the home is literally a wall of windows. No air conditioning needed. Every morning we woke to the sun rising and beaming through our windows. It was a warm, happy way to start our day. The balcony is magnificent and offers seating just about everywhere (loungers, hammocks, dining table).

Each night we’d come from a day of exploring and make dinner, have a glass (or three) of wine and enjoy the absolute quiet and calm of this place. When it got a little too quiet, we could check email – yes the house has wireless!

Dave, the caretaker, and his adorable beach dogs, Chewy and Senorita, live on the property and keep an eye on the place. No worries about anything with these guys on the scene! Dave is awesome and makes you feel right at home.

Although the Taj Mahahual has a gourmet kitchen (honestly it’s better equipped than my kitchen at home), you should check out the Mayan Beach Garden Inn – just a short walk from the house – for an authentic Mexican meal.

Beautiful house… great caretaker… cool dogs… private beach… and sunrises from your bed. It was a blissfully happy week!

Pictures do not do this place justice.....This is a luxurious, expansive, pristine place that has every comfort and more. We stayed in the beach room on the bottom level. We just had to walk out the door to the beautiful white sand beach. The water is shallow for several yards and very warm. The beach is very private and very clean. The caretaker is american and speaks english and it is obvious that he takes great pride in this place and his job. He gave us a tour of the whole house and made us feel very comfortable and welcome without being intrusive. We sat outside one night with a bottle of wine, the full moon over the water , the sky full of twinkling stars, listening to the waves.... it was absolutely magical.......This is one is for the Bucket List....
