We visited Costa Maya as part of the Carnival Glory cruise. We had arranged a tour via Native Choice prior to our trip. We made all the arrangements on-line; the website was very user friendly, and their follow-up via e-mail was very clear. They met us just right outside the port, and although we were a few minutes late, our lovely tour guide Raquel waited for us. We were transported in a very clean and spacious van to the Chacchoben ruins. Although we got hit with some very heavy rain, our tour guide made sure to ask our opinion on how we wanted to continue, and was very accommodating in waiting for the rain to clear. Raquel was very knowledgeable and even helped take some pictures of us during the tour. After the tour, we visited the Seven Color Lagoon--very beautiful--but make sure to bring some water shoes. The lunch was delicious and we had a lovely ride back to the port. Raquel would provide very educational information during the van rides, with a lovely sense of humor. Thanks!

My daughters (ages 12 and 15) and I took the Mayan Experience tour in August 2014. We found our way to the Native Choice tour office easily enough (with their emailed instructions). Be aware that theirs is the only office that isn't near the cruise ship port, it's about a 10 minute walk. We were in a tour group with one other family. The van was air-conditioned and clean, and bottled water was provided (much appreciated). We drove for about an hour to the sites of the Mayan ruins. Our tour guide was very friendly but we had a hard time understanding him at times (his English was reasonably good, but his accent sometimes got in the way). I also think he misjudged the interest level of the children on the tour. My kids were wilting in the heat after a while. For the second part of the tour, we drove to a village where we had lunch with some local women, as well as made tortillas with them. The lunch was lovely and food was plentiful, and even my vegetarian daughter found plenty to eat. The women also had some hand-woven items for sale, though they weren't pushing them on us (we bought some anyway). I enjoyed the lunch very much. We made it back to the ship with a little time left to browse the port shops. (If you want to do more shopping, you might consider taking the shorter tour that doesn't include the lunch and tortilla-making.)

While visiting Costa Maya, a port on the Carnival's Conquest itinerary, with the family, we took the Chacchoben Extreme Tour from Native Choice. We visited the Chacchoben ruins and Seven Color Lagoon which was both an educational and enjoyable experience that we would definitely recommend to anyone visiting Costa Maya. Our tour guide, Frine, was very knowledgeable and provided us with a most memorable tour!

The directions provided by the Native Choice office were well detailed and easy to follow from the port. After checking in at their office, we took a one-hour ride in a very clean and comfortable passenger van to the Chacchoben ruins. During the ride, Frine gave us an extensive background on the area. She was very knowledgeable about the Mayan culture and provided many interesting facts while fielding all of our questions. We arrived at the Chacchoben ruins well before the massive rush of other tour groups allowing us to take pictures and walk around the site very easily. Frine made it very interesting by providing an educational discussion of the area. The massive rush of buses occurred right as we were leaving, making us very thankful the tour was planned so well. This allowed for time to stop at one of the local pineapple farms (the pineapple was delicious with the smoked habanero powder - a must have!). From the ruins, we drove to a quaint resort at the Seven Color Lagoon. The resort was beautiful (we were told the lagoon is normally even more breathtaking but recent rainstorms had muddled the water). At the resort, we met the owner who provided us with a delicious lunch (chicken fajitas, rice and beans) and unlimited drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic for the entire stay). After lunch, we laid out at the resort's beach and went kayaking. Being at the resort was extremely relaxing and the views were breathtaking. Throughout the entire stay, Frine was amazingly hospitable ensuring we were comfortable. We arrived back at the ship's port with more than enough time to visit the local shops. We will definitely recommend Native Choice Tours to our family and friends!

Thank you Frine and Native Choice!

"Joel" (pronounced Ho-el) is an excellent native Mayan guide for The Native Choice Tours. During the 45 minute ride from the port to the ruins, he gave so many insights about recent history of his people and how the area is becoming more and more developed. At the Mayan sites, he gave a very interesting narrative of the history of the Mayan people as well as his own experiences growing up In that culture. He is quite passionate about his heritage and has a great working knowledge of their history. No questions from our group went unanswered. He even brought along reconstruction photos to show us what the ruins would've looked like when they were built. There truly was no boring part of this tour.

Following the tour of the ruins, we stopped by a roadside village market area selling pineapple...it's among the best on the planet - so sweet, it tasted like candy. Joel provided history and information about that village as well.

Our tour started in the morning, and we were given bottled water. Even though the heat & humidity were both VERY high, this was still one of the best excursions - I would highly recommend it. We arrived well in advance of the "cruise tours", and as such, the tour was all very unhurried and not crowded like the cruise tour. I'm not a history nut, but Joel made this one extremely interesting and enjoyable.

We booked this tour for our day at port in Cozumel. It was FANTASTIC! We had a group of 8 that included a two year old and great grandma. Our tour guide Raquel was very friendly and knowledgeable and after spending the day with her we felt like we were leaving a member of our family behind. The van was super clean, air-conditioned, and they had ice cold water for us. We got to go experience what a traditional Mayan village was like and toured some very interesting ruins. Raquel took us to the East side of the island which was GORGEOUS and we had a great lunch. Several members of our group have some serious food allergies and Raquel made sure that the restaurant understood what they couldn't have. Not only was she so knowledgeable, she even took us by a grocery store to stock up on some Pull-Ups on our way back to the port. After talking with some others on the cruise who went on the tour offered by the cruise line, we definitely had the better experience. Would definitely do this again!

Oh, and if you have a little one, it is stroller friendly :)
