I really was looking forward to see the Mayan Ruins. Our tour guide was great ( he was the son of the explorer who found the site in 1998 ). He was full of interesting stats and facts, very knowledgeable in Mayan and local culture. Since the site is fairly new, it is still being excavated. We got to see the Mayan temples but we couldn't enter or walk on any of them which I found a bit disappointing. My sister and 5 year old nephew found it boring but I actually enjoyed it. The scenery was great, I just wish we could have viewed the inside as well as the outside of the ruins.

We booked this in advance for our Royal Carribean tour to Costa Maya (70000 tons of metal) and were very excited when we arrived. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and was great at guiding us through the various cities ruins, explaining things in good detail.

There is a fair 1 hour bus ride back and forth to the location from the port, however the bus is air conditioned and comfortable.

We had a wonderful time on this tour. Raquel made everyone's day. She was very informative, entertaining and completely adorable. The ruins were amazing but Raquel's narrative was crucial for understanding the Mayan heritage.

The lakeside lunch and swim was held at a beautiful remote resort area and the unlimited drinks put everyone in a festive mood for the ride back.

The tour office was a short walk from the pier and the vans were comfortable. The resort was awsome. We were served unlimited drinks and everyone had a great time! Wonderful experience!

This was the best tour we had on our cruise and mainly because of Raquel. Thanks Raquel!!

When we left the ship, we took a nice long walk through the shops in the little town the cruise ship companies have created (that's a true fact- the port was named Costa Maya by the cruise lines). We then took a 45 minute drive to the ruins. Our guide was very nice and informative, but there's really not a whole bunch to see on the way to the Chacchoben ruins. The ruins themselves were amazing. They are not as huge or intricate as Chichen Itza or others, but it was still incredible to stand at the base of these ruins that have been around for hundreds of years before Christ was born. We learned quite a bit about the workings of the common areas of the ruins, and our guide was able to answer everyone's questions. Some of the ruins can be climbed to the top, others can only be climbed to the roped off areas. Remember to look around while you are there, you may get to see toucans or monkeys. I happened to look up when I heard some rustling in the tree above me and got to see an adorable spider monkey swinging from branch to branch just a few feet up. It is extremely warm during April this far inland, so dress appropriately. Our guide had an umbrella for shade. The kids stayed interested in the tour for the most part, but our almost 8 year old got a little restless in the heat toward the end.

for newbie to Mayan ruins this was a nice tour. 1/4 mile walk outside of the port area to meet the guide. Took us a nice long ride to the site. Site was clean and well organized. tour guide was good. We were able to see and hear about the Mayan pyramids and some history. Climbed the pyramids and tons of pics. After the tour, we had an option to be dropped off at Mahahual beach but wanted to get back to port for shopping and drinking ;-) Overall, good experience and accommodating tour.
