“Peace and tranquility - perfect!!”
Reviewed 16 March 2014 via mobile

We stayed at Balamku for 5 nights at the end of our Mexican road trip. Our stay was fantastic in every respect... We had room 9 with great views and it was incredibly peaceful - just the sound of the ocean and the breeze to fall asleep to! Mani and Te, the new managers, are wonderful hosts and cannot do enough to help make your stay as home from home as possible. We particularly enjoyed the wonderful fruit at breakfast and the amazing lunches made to order. Food wise for dinner others have mentioned the Maya Luna and Travel Inn, both good. We had two great meals at Nohoch Kay in Mahahual - great fish and seafood and good vibe! Thanks Mani and Te for a great stay! Orla and Mark

Thank you for letting us and others know how great your experience at Balamku and Mahahual South Beach was. We love being close to town but also away from the bustle. Our clients, like you, appreciate the privacy and tranquility that comes with staying "south"
many thanks

My boyfriend and I only had four days in Mexico (arriving in Cancun Friday morning and flying out Monday night), and we weren't sure that it made sense to drive the extra 4-4.5 hours to Mahahual. But here's the calculus as I saw it: in Cancun for 100 dollars a night, you're staying in a motel a mile from the beach. In Tulum, you're staying in somewhere nicer, but still a few blocks from the beach. In Mahahual, though, you're staying at Balamku, which means a beautiful cabana all to yourself, directly on the beach, with million dollar views of the ocean; incredibly friendly and helpful hosts; delicious free breakfast; restaurants and bars a ten-minute drive away (but not a single other tourist on "your" beach); a genuine commitment to keeping its ecological footprint small without sacrificing comfort; and most of all the feeling that you really have found someplace special and amazing. Absolutely a no-brainer.

Room Tip: Ask for cabana number six!

Love your review! So clear on our differences from the north. Hearing a lot about this in person from guests and this is why we are here! Thanks for making this transparent for others.

Beautiful inn and location, clean and comfortable rooms - many with wifi access. Central building for meals, wifi, drinks and hanging out. Good choice at breakfast ( trust me, order juevos rancheros con chorizo! ). You can order a dinner for the evening or have a drink (alcoholic or not)- great dining room with windows on the water. You can walk short distance up or down the road and dine at Luna Maya or Travel In -my personal fav, even for a (few) drinks. Clean clean clean!

Room Tip: No bad room!

Just finished 5 days here at the end of February, 2014.
It is as nice and worthwhile as other reviewers say. Two additional things:
1. The management, at this time Art and Shirley, are exceptional in their attention and care, knowledge and humor. The beauty of the ocean front location, the honest commitment to ecology and comfort at the same time, and the personal friendliness of all involved make this a special experience.
2. The #$%##@# road is FIXED!!!!!!!!!!
Just this week, the government sent out a grader to work for several days on filling and grading the road. Used to be a forty minute walk into Mahahual and a forty five minute drive! Now its smooth sailing on the road, and very quick into the town.

Also, there is additional motivation to stay the 7 km outside of the town in that two of the best and most highly regarded restaurants in the Mahahual region are a ten minute walk in either direction from the Balamkuy Inn (these are Maya Luna and Traveler In)

If you are looking for a peaceful experience to get some wrest and enjoy yourself, this is yhe place! As strange as it sounds my favorite part of the stay was the sounds coming off the ocean. I have never slept so well in my life. The staff is attentive and wants nothing more than for you to relax and enjoy.

My wife and I put nearly 2000 miles on our rental car on our recent Southern Mexico trip and unfortunately the 6 km between Mahahual and the Balamku Inn was the worst we experienced. In fact we damaged the front bumper on our rental car. Though not the fault of Balamku it is something visitors should be aware of. Makes a run into Mahuhual for an evening meal wholly unpractical.

WE had the intention of staying 5 nights at Balamku, but only ended up staying 1. Unfortunately you are dependent on the two proximate resorts for your lunch and dinners or even an evening drink for that matter. When we arrived we found out that one of the resorts was closing for 5 days. The Balamku closes the common area with the very limited bar at 7 pm and provides no facility to store food and drink. I would strongly suggest that they provide a small fridge in the common area where visitors can store a few beers or some wine that can be accessed in the evening to give one the option of an evening drink on the premises if they do not want to keep the bar open.

The property itself is beautiful. We stayed in one of the upstairs rooms. We loved the view as well as the style of the structure. Overall I think that this place has a lot of potential, however, as it is presently being run it really misses the mark.

Without a doubt, the road has been a disaster for months. With the political will and generous donations by all who live and use the road, the government has repaired the road and it is now a smooth drive to and from town. The worst time for many of our clients and our community!
The services at Balamku are focussed on client needs so duly noted . However, Balamku staff does provide dinners, lunches and bar service on request...think one night didn't give anyone enough time to get the flow and 5 Star rated service that we provide.

I spent 4 days in Balanku in late january.
It is far from the village, but it is fine as it is ugly and more commercial than Cancun, so had no regret and we spent all our time snorkeling and taking the most of the beach.
Our guests made everything possible to make our stay nice and peacefull. the beach was disgusting on the firts day but guies worked until it was spotless.
Lunch and diner can be taken on nearby restaurants, but diner in Balanku was delicious.
Take pesos with you as no ATM work in Mahahual and change office is dramatically expensive.

Balanku is a perfect place for lovers & people wanting to get close to nature,
