Breathtaking experience! Unbelievable achievments of great little Maya people. It's hard to believe they were carrying geat heavy stone pieces themselves dragging them with ropes put on their shoulders and heads!

No hawkers as at Chitzen Itza, fabulous grounds and awesome largely intact buildings covering many acres. You can still climb most the of temple and pyramid steps for close up viewing of the relief carvings.

This whole area of ruins - Uxmal, Kabah, Sayil - is a hike from the resorts on the coast but totally worth the trip. Uxmal is beautiful in a different way then Chichen Itza and is more approachable. There's more terrain and views but less signage. There were no crowds the day we were there (and I imagine other than Uxmal there are no crowds at these smaller sites ever) and only 1-2 vendors versus the endless merchants at Chichen Itza. The evening light show is worth it ONLY if you speak Spanish or get the earphone translator. And if you are uncomfortable navigating through remote tiny tiny villages plan extra time to use the main highway across the Yucatan through Merida.

This site is great, just like Chichen Itza in some ways, but not as busy at all. Lots to see, but the area is not too large. There is a pyramid you can climb to get a decent view of the place. You can get here by bus from the second class bus terminal in Merida.

Great to still be able to touch and feel the structures, makes for a more "real" feeling. Fantastic light show. Grounds are immaculate.
