“Never felt more well looked after”
Reviewed 10 May 2014

We stayed here for 4 nights on Yucatan tour, what a superb location opposite the ancient Maya city of Uxmal, what a lovely experience. The colonial rooms were comfortable and clean and facilities were good. The pool was lovely and usually quiet. The best thing about this hotel were the staff. Nothing was too much trouble and they were all so friendly. Food was good quality and plenty of it, but they were happy to make you something different, including a lovely birthday cake for one of our party (our chef Pedro excelled himself).
William, our dining manager kept everything running smoothly but still found time to share a joke or two.
All in all a very enjoyable stay on an amazing holiday.

We stayed here as part of the Yucatan Explorer tour from Thompson's which is run by Gray Line.
We stayed here 4 nights as a base for exploring Uxmal and other parts of Yucatan.
The rooms were very comfortable, clean and quiet. Pretty much everyone staying here seemed to be visiting archaeological sites either as part of a group or independently, so the atmosphere was nicely chilled and respectful. No late night parties here!

The waiters couldn't be more helpful and the food was interesting, varied and tasty.
William spoke good English and went out of his way to make sure we were offered a range of menus.

The pool area has about 12 sun beds and was a nice place to relax after visiting sites at the end of the day. On one afternoon there was a large party staying at the hotel and it could have done with more beds but by the next day things were back to normal - including the iguanas happily basking in the sun next to us humans.

The Uxmal site is a short walk across the road and we enjoyed the lunchtime buffet at the sister hotel there a couple of times.

wifi was available in the room and at the pool.

The hotel is literally in the middle of nowhere - the nearest village is several km away. So unless you have a car, nightlife is restricted to the hotel, but if you are getting up at 7am to visit a site, a couple of drinks at the well stocked hotel bar is just fine.
Look out at night for big toads on the floor and cute frogs and geckos on the walls and picture frames.

What more could anyone ask for? A stunning location, full of bird song and wonderful sunrises and sunsets. The Queen herself has stayed here, and we were not surprised! Cool verandas, balconies and hammocks, an elegant pool to cool down in. The bar was delightful with lots of interesting cocktails, or a cool beer. The outdoor patio restaurant served delicious food, breakfast was a treat with unusual local fruit, all explained to us by the staff. The staff were exceptional, especially the character Fredi, who was highly entertaining, the waiter William, with excellent English and time to make everyone feel welcome. The barman Rudolf and his son were very professional and efficient, and the waiter Jonni a real charm. They made our stay extra special! Guitarists strumming in the restaurant completed the magic. The Uxmal archaeological site was just across the road, making it easy to visit in the day, and return for the light show in the evening. While cooling down in the pool a waiter called us over to give us a plate of complimentary chiiled fruit on a hand decorated plate (edible jam)..pic enclosed. A wonderful experience..go if you can!

We spent two nights at this great hotel. A short distance from the Uxmal site, where we enjoyed a day visit and a night show of sound and light. Beautiful grounds and pool area. Excellent food at breakfast and dinner. Very good staff. Highly recommended. Take time to walk through the hotel and study the history. Certain rooms have shields outside on the wall with details of who stayed there.

Room Tip: You will be happy any where.

Stayed here for four nights as part of Thomson Yucatan Tour. The hotel is very near the Uxmal site. The rooms had an old fashioned charm and were very clean. The hotel staff were very helpful especially William the head waiter The last night they had a seafood platter for dinner which neither my husband or I liked so he did us a fabulous steak instead. Although this hotel is out of the way it was very peaceful. It retained the feel of the old Spanish Hacienda that it once was. The grounds and pool area were nice and we had a drink at the bar every night before dinner. Treated so well that it was a shame to leave and move on to the beach.

I have mixed feelings about your review. On the one hand, the hotel is not really "out of the way", but located across the street from the Temples at the archeological site of Uxmal. The very reason for it's existence ! You refer to the "old days" with some nostalgia... well, the plantation has never in our 342 year history, been busier, more beautiful and more productive... and the present building of the hotel has not been better since it was built in 1952. Trust me, I have been involved in it since birth, before it was built. The Hacienda has been in our family since 1673.
My apologies for being so "direct and to the point'; I feel it is important for those reading your review to get another perspective. As you mention, our service is very personal. Our collaborators give their best, to the point of serving you a steak because you did not enjoy the fish, among other gestures.

Thanks for your visit. May you always enjoy safe travels!

A delightful hotel just outside the archaeological site. Spacious rooms and bathrooms
and very friendly and helpful staff. We had an excellent supper and breakfast by the pool.
Interesting photo gallery of people who have visited Uxmal. Highly recommended if
you are visiting Uxmal.

when you are doing the mayan trail, its location is the key for getting to other sites. Its a 1920's Hacienda so great retro rooms. The queen stayed here once plus a host of other celebities. They reall did us proud on the food eggs rancheros I'd recommend for breakfast. Also go for a stroll into the grounds and see the forest for real. Then have a cocktail before dinner. We loved it, spacious relaxed, old world a nice change from modern hotels.

Room Tip: pick the old hacienda part
