Hostel La Candelaria was great! It's clean, friendly, and has the most amazing backyard garden/kitchen and hangout spot.

Valladolid is a wonderful little town -- very pretty, very safe. The hostel is in a great location, and it's easy to get to the cenotes and the ruins. The one difficulty that I had was trying to figure out how to make my way from Valladolid into Guatemala. The front desk staff had no idea, but luckily they did have a computer. And the folks at the bus station in town were also very helpful. I was traveling alone and my spanish was very shabby, but I still managed to make my way.

The town is filled with upper class, polite, religious people who are using laptops and cell phones and ignoring the tourists like me. Not a single drunk or homeless person on the street. Children and ladies and lots of foot traffic at 9PM for unknown reasons. There are lots of stores filled with dollar store-type of crap that are open, but do not seem to have a single customer. No bars that i can detect. This was the second place that I stayed on my solo travel, so I asked the desk staff if it was safe to walk the 8 blocks and he said yes, so i did and it was totally safe to wander the streets alone (even at night). I would stay here again, definitely.

This hostel is simply amazing! All the enthusiastic reviews proved to be true. Fantastic location at a charming plaza, stylish colonial building, very friendly and helpful staff, great value for money, clean, decent breakfast, lush garden and overally a very cosy ambience. Overally, one of the best hostels I have ever stayed in.

Room Tip: Private rooms are an extremely good deal.

The rooms were just ok, but the rest of the hostel is awesome: kitchen, garden, hammocs etc. Breakfast included. The staff was very nice and very helpful. They gave us the best tips to try to see the most of Valladolid in one day.
We hired bikes in the same hostel (max. 80 pesos per day) to go to Cenote San Lorenzo (because they recommend it to us) and as it is not very well-known yet, we had the Cenote just for ourselves!
Besides, it is located very close to the Bus Terminal (walking distance).

Very warm And Nice welcome. Very Nice tips from the employees to eat or to visit but you have to know That what you get is extrêmely basic.
The rooms only have what you need to sleep And i dont have to complain about the noise.
But the garden ans the patio are extrêmely nice places where you can chat And spend time with your friends. So a plus for common areas.
The situation is also ok just dont expect too much.

This hostel has very clean and cheerful rooms, clean and well-maintained shared bathrooms, good cooking facilities to make your own meals, and very friendly and helpful staff. There were travellers of all ages, single as well as couples. However, this is not the place for light sleepers. Dogs bark through the night, and early in the morning the bells ring at the nearby Candelaria church. For this reason only, we moved after one night here. We found a very low-key hotel that doesn't even have a name but only "Hotel" sign out front, right across the street from Hotel Zaci. It was an old colonial house with tall ceilings, well aired-out and without the musty smell that comes from the humidity, and we stayed on the second floor in what had to be the most quiet hotel room in Mexico - one window, facing the empty courtyard. When you need a good night's sleep, you no longer care how pretty the place is :-)

We stayed here in January 2013. It was only supposed to be for one night but we stayed an extra 2. Great location. Bike hire was brilliant for cycling to cenotes in the nearby area. Reasonably priced. Clean rooms. Friendly staff. Lovely garden area, great kitchen! We recommended this place to people we met on our travels and we will definitely be making a return visit xXx
