Hotel is pleasant enough except for one thing. If you want to make a Mexican toll free call, for example to your airline, the hotel charges you a dollar a minute. Not just a charge to put you through but a charge throughout the call. This is surely unacceptable. Further, a local call to the Yucatan is charged at an expensive rate because it happens to be in a different state. No senior executive was around to deal with this. Junior staff just repeated that there was this policy. Sour taste.

We stayed in this quaint hotel (and I mean that in a positive way!) two nights. Our room was ready upon our arrival and was clean and well appointed. The staff were all friendly, efficient and accommodating. The central courtyard with the pool offered a tranquil setting to recharge after a busy day! However, a few more chairs or loungers would be helpful.
The hotel is in a very convenient location right across from the zocala. If you can, witness the flag raising ceremony that occurs daily. Very impressive. And on Sunday evenings, be sure to stroll around the zocala.... Live music by local bands and loads of fun! Wonderful to see all ages "dancing in the street"! Lots of good restaurants within a short stroll. Maybe a bit pricey but worth it, especially with the inclusion of breakfast. A group of us watched the men's gold medal hockey game in the courtyard and the staff were very helpful in getting us coffee.... The game started at 6 AM local time so that was quite appreciated. We attracted a bit of a crowd as we were able to get the CBC feed so the colour commentary was in English. And the hotel was very understanding of our whoops of celebration at the end of the game. Thank you for that!

Room Tip: Rooms at the back overlooking the pool are quieter. The lager rooftop patios on the fourth floor and fifth floors offer a beautiful view of the church and square, but beware of the birds that come to roost!!!

We did not stay at the hotel, but ate at the restaurant two evenings. The service was friendly, professional, and helpful in every way. Our waiter was Pablo and he made us feel like friends. He answered our questions about the dishes, attended to our every need without hovering, and made both our dinners very romantic and special for the two of us. We felt like guests in someone's patio, rather than paying customers.

Stayed 4 nights in a superior room on the 5th floor (#509). This was located in the original building. Room very clean and comfortable as were the beds...mattresses looked new. I had been a little worried about this as per some previous reviews.
We checked in and someone helped us with our luggage, all the time speaking to us in English and explaining the hotel facilities, etc. This made us feel very welcome. He also gave instructions for the t.v., a/c and room safe. They provided some bath robes which I thought was a nice touch. They had a nice pool however we did not go swimming, my travel partner did sit around it just to have a drink and read. The only small complaint I would have is the excessively loud fan in the bathroom which of course went on as soon as you turned on the light....we resorted to leaving a flashlight in there just to get some light without the annoying sound. Not a huge problem, as I would not hesitate to stay there again.

The breakfasts were included and you had the choice of different eggs, hotcakes, etc. The 1st, 2nd and 4th days were excellent however on the 3rd day, it was just passable...perhaps the regular cook's day off? We also had dinner there once and it was very good. You could also get decent coffee to go at the bar.

I am planning to return to Valladolid and will most likely stay here again.

Note to smokers: This is a 100% non-smoking facility....(When I saw the signs everywhere I almost thought I was in the US for a minute) you cannot smoke right outside your room, in the open air dining courtyard or even around the pool. Smoking was permitted on the Juliet balcony off our room but with a 20inch X 60 inch size, you could not put a chair out there and sit. You could go out to the parking lot though. The guests with private balconies (mostly suites) could smoke on their respective balconies. I did find a solution where I could sit down and have a coffee and smoke all at the same time....PM me for further details.

Room Tip: Get a superior room in the original building on the top floor

Hello,

Thank you very much for your comment and for sharing your experience at the Hotel Meson del Marques.

The room 509 has a very nice view, thank you to tell us about the fan/light situation. The housekeepers will verify this situation immediately.

Every day we work to provide the best of our services and satisfy all our customers. The work and continuous training are extremely important for us.

All comments at general meetings of the departments are read by all service partners. Thanks for your words.

We have some smoking rooms, but there is a law of the Federal Government, which forces us to be smoke-free.

We will be very happy that you stay again at Hotel Meson del Marques.

Best regards.

I stayed here for one night and wish it was much longer. This hotel is gorgeous, and very well-priced. Check out the secluded roof deck on the top floor. The wifi works well throughout the hotel. The pool is super lovely, even if it only gets limited direct sunlight. Everyone who works in this place was very nice as well. The breakfast is included and while it's not the best meal you'll ever have, it's definitely sufficient and good. The location of this hotel is perfect in the charming square in the center of town. Don't believe the bad reviews and just stay here. Also, there is parking in the back if you have a car.
