“Great little place”
Reviewed 10 May 2014

this place was definitely one of the highlights of our trip. Very cosy place in Valladolid which is a little town off the beaten track but definitely worth visiting. A perfect stop between Merida and the coast.

A great property with great room not far from the center of town. Nice, clean and safe and good breakfast.

This is a beautiful property, with a great traditional hacienda feeling with modern conveniences. Each room is so pretty, with a hammock for lounging and air conditioning. There are a lot of common/public areas for the guests, multiple dining tables, sofas outside and in. The hotel is very quiet, which makes for a very restful sleep!

And the breakfast (which I believe is included), is spectacular! Fresh fruit, yogurt, granola, bread, eggs, beans, tortillas....

A great hotel!

Room Tip: They are all great!

We recently spent 11 days in the Yucatan and on our last night decided to visit Valladolid. First off, the city is great and the people are so friendly. I would not hesitate to recommend that visitors come here as part of their "Cancun" vacation. There is a great deal to check out in teh city and environs.
Now, Posada San Juan was fantastic. Rooms are beautiful, quiet, air conditioned. The best bed we slept in the entire trip. There are only 4 rooms in the whole place and it was detailed, comfortable and serene. They make you breakfast in the AM which was outstanding. This place understands what a Western tourist wants on vacation. It is central in the city, about a 400M walk up the road to the central plaza but we grabbed cabs most times we wanted to get to and from places as they are about $2 USD to get anywhere. I drove into the city and found the place no problem. We also had no problem getting out of the city. it is a very easy place to get around.
We had two kids with us, age 5 and 9. They loved this Hotel as well. I will say that if you have noisy kids, you might feel kind of self conscience about them making a ruckus as the place is kind of a serene relaxing oasis but overall, the best find of the trip.

We recently spent 8 days across four locations on the peninsula. This was our FAVE hotel - bested the Hyatt Regency at Cancun by far! Lovely large room, much needed AC (we'd had five nights at two more expensive places without AC and it was tough to sleep due to the humidity), lovely hosts, yummy breakfast (included eggs cooked to order), beautiful gardens with pool and outdoor settings. Very kind hosts too (not much English spoken - but better than my non-existant spanish - and you can get a long way with smiles and sign language!) Also an easy walk to town square and other spots for food. Can't recommend highly enough, hope you stay and love it too.

Room Tip: There are three rooms that open onto garden - aim to get one of these if you like to step into a pre...

The serenity and quaint atmosphere was second to none.
Great location in town and access to ruins, cenotes and other places of interest. Available transportation and tour guide services available made our experience relaxing but adventurous.
We will! be back, can't wait.

We are just wrapping up 2 nights here at PSJ. We came with our 10 year old sons and have had a wonderful time and only wish we had more time to explore this area. Valladolid is an incredible window into the Colonial Past and Maya Present of the Yucatan Peninsula. PSJ is located in the heart of Valladolid and is geographically close to a number of very interesting natural and cultural sites. The hotel itself is very well appointed, the rooms are large and comfortable and the garden terrace is a nice place to sit in the evening and recap the adventures of the day. We cannot wait to come back, only next time for longer!

Room Tip: We saw all the rooms and they are all very nice.

Let me start by saying we thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and would definitely consider returning, I was just expecting the hotel to be a little more polished. At $115 US per night Posada San Juan is at the higher end for Valladolid and while the website photos look fantastic, the hotel is not quite as nice once you see it in person.
To be honest when we first walked in we thought we had made a big mistake booking there.....the two huge colonial rooms that make up the entrance to the hotel were basically empty except for a tacky "office depot" workstation and a seating area consisting of sofas that had once been cream but were so dirty they now look brown...really a horrible first impression. But as we passed through the dining area, out onto the terrace and into our rooms we realized the photos of these areas were quite accurate, clearly the owners have put all of their investment into the back part of the house. Hopefully the front rooms will be improved soon.
Our room, #4, was lovely except for another formerly cream and now filthy brown ottoman. Very comfortable beds, although we could not get the only room with a king...so for a couple it's was a tight squeeze in one of the two doubles! The ensuite bath was beautifully designed and the shower had fantastic water pressure and tons of hot water (although no soap in the shower...I'm sure they would have brought us some if we asked but we did not notice until we were in the shower!). One big issue with the room though was that you could not get any fresh air, we stayed there on a lovely cool evening but none of the windows were openable so we could not enjoy it. And the room was rather musty smelling and could have used a good airing. We also could not get our ceiling fan to go any speed over snail's pace, so that didn't help.
Breakfast was wonderful as most reviewers have mentioned and we were served more than we could possibly have eaten.
I think what truly makes this place special is the staff. The owner Sara who greeted us upon our arrival was very charming and offered us a ton of info on Valladolid. And the two regular staff were fantastic, very attentive and truly exemplified Mayan hospitality. I believe most of the 5 star reviews are based more on the personal interaction with the staff than on the hotel itself. As much as I would like to give Posada San Juan a 4 or 5....because the experience of our stay was wonderful... I don't think the hotel itself has really fulfilled it's potential for excellence......yet!

Room Tip: Room 1 has a street on either side, so will be noisy. Room 4 has no openable windows.
