“Incredible gardens!”
Reviewed 11 August 2013

This little town has an excellent place to stay, with clean rooms and friendly staff. It is located close enough to walk to the town square with comfortable shoes on. The very best part is the grounds of the hotel complex. The owner is an amateur (only in that it is not his profession) botanist and has a phenomenal collection on fruit trees and more from the area and beyond. He is happy ot give you a tour, too! One of my trip highlights!!!

My husband and I stayed here in September of 2012. We always travel in the "low" seasons to avoid the crowds and the college-age tourists. We are in our mid 40s and don't like the younger party crowd.

This hotel is beautiful. The rooms are just as pictured. Each has a private balcony with a view of the rainforest style landscaping. We were here for 3 days of a 2 week vacation. We had originally reserved for 2 nights but once we got here we didn't want to leave. The restaurant at the hotel was very good and reasonably priced. The pool was a refreshing way to end a day of walking around the hot jungle looking at ruins and spider monkeys.

The only hang-up for us was when I found a large tarantula behind the fridge in our room. I have arachnophobia and so I was terrified. My husband disposed of it and the hotel staff came in and checked to assure there were no more. After we left my husband told me he had discovered a mother and a freshly hatching egg sac in the shower while using the bathroom in the middle of the night. He got rid of them and didn't let me know because he knew it would have ruined my vacation.. and he was right! You have to take the bad with the good. If you want a hotel in a rainforest-like setting... you have to deal with rainforest creatures.

Even with the spider incident... I would recommend this hotel to anyone and I hope we return again some day.

Room Tip: We had a room on the ground floor and were fine with that, but the views from the upper floors may h...

We stayed two night at this hotel, Feb 2011. Our room was on the ground floor. It was very large & the beds were comfortable. But, the room was very dark. The patio area was damp & uninviting. The desk staff was not friendly or welcoming. We spent an afternoon by the pool swimming & reading. It was very relaxing.

We enjoyed our stay in the small Mexican city of Valladolid. We explored the central area of the city, the shops, & the squares. We had one of our best dinners in the Yucatan at the Casa Italia. It is reputed to have the best Italian food out side of Italy. It lived up to its reputation.
My husband had pasta with mushrooms, Prosciutto, & cream sauce. I had foccacia and a Calebrese salad. We had a few glasses of red wine with our meal. The staff was very warm & welcoming.

We went to the jungle ruin, Ek-Balam by taxi, early one morning It was charming. We were the first ones to arrive & had the place to ourselves for better than an hour. A dog was doing his morning stretches on the top of one of the ruins. We saw lots of colorful birds flitting from tree to tree.

Do not miss Valladolid when traveling to the Yucatan. It is a lovely little colonial town.

Room Tip: Get a room with a balcony, They looked so much better than having a damp, dark garden.

The Ecotel Quinta Regia is a lovely hotel to spend a night or two. The room was spacious, with air conditioning and it had a tiny balcony. There is a restaurant and a bar with a pool which was inviting after a long day of travelling. Staff is friendly and helpful and the location of the hotel is within walking distance to the centre (approx 15-20 min.).

Definitely good value for money!

The pool was excellent, had a real resort feel, very relaxing and a nice way to spend the hot afternoons after a morning sightseeing. Great proximity to Chichen Itza and other sights in the region. A little bit away from the centre of town but about 7 min walk and was safe to walk at night. The restaurant served good food which could be eaten by the pool or inside.

Unfortunately the wifi didn't work in the rooms, the signal was showing but we couldn't connect. We could connect in common areas with no issues. Also there was no hot water in our room. We didn't bother pursuing it with the hotel as it didn't really worry us as it was so hot when we were there. In both cases if we could speak Spanish I'm sure they would have fixed the problem, especially the water. The staff were friendly and the rooms were excellent! Overall we had a great stay there.

We were on an escorted tour, so I can't comment on the value side. The hotel was certainly clean and appeared to be well kept. It is a bit of a walk (15 minutes or so) into town and it was quiet around the hotel. This area of Mexico is also very safe, so no worries about walking around. Can't say that the food was that good. Breakfast certainly could do with a re-think. Overall, probably a good place to base yourself for a day or two, but don't dwell to long.

My husband and I stayed 2 nights at this hotel. The overall impression of the place is inviting. The pool and restaurant areas are comfortable and clean. The room was spacious, the amenities modern, the bed very comfortable. All of the rooms have a balcony with some furniture, looking out on tropical plants and fruiting trees. The restaurant serves regional food at reasonable prices. It's well-cooked and well-presented. Our only 2 complaints were the cleanliness of the floor. Everything in the room was very clean and neat. The floor however was a different matter. Our feet were dirty after only minutes of walking on the tiled floors. The other is that the door, while made of thick wood, doesn't fit the frame, so you hear every noise coming from the hall and other rooms. And, the ceiling must be poorly insulated as I heard every noise and voice coming from the room above me. We were fortunate to have been there when the hotel wasn't busy.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the top floor, at the end of a hall for less likelihood of noise.
