“Amazing private escape”
Reviewed 29 June 2014

My husband and I stayed at Al Cielo for a few days after our wedding in Isla Mujeres. It was exactly the perfect escape we needed. Very private and quiet, the beach is glorious and the room we chose 'La Mar' was the perfect place to unwind. The food is fantastic and the service was wonderful. If you want to have a romantic dinner elsewhere the restaurant Esperanza next door is phenomenal.

Ok - wanted to love this place and we did.

If you are looking for a quiet getaway far away from anything else it's perfect

The downside is the flip side of its upside - it's far away from anything.

So be aware you will be pretty well limited to the hotel restaurant for food and drinks.

Both are reasonable but not cheap - we figured it was about the same as an all-inclusive but we never scrimped in either food or drinks

Budget suggestion - love the location but limit the bar drinks (if you are watching your budget)

Food suggestion - specialties are nice but a bit inconsistent - I think it highly depends in who is in the kitchen.

Final tip - a gratuity will be added to your bill - so unless you are very pleased with something extra dont feel guilty if you don't tip your waiters.

We always leave about 20 pesos for the housekeeper though - they did a great job.

AL CIELO Staff would like to thank you for your kind comments.

Yes we are very thankful that we are not close to those big resorts!! We are very lucky to still have this beautiful beach for just a few people.

We have happy hour every day from 4pm to 6pm...its a good bargain for the drinks!!

We thank you for letting us know your thoughts on our food, we already passed that info to our Chef and he will fix it asap.

We hope to have you back again with us soon.

Kind Regards.

I spent three nights with my mom at Hotel Al Cielo. It was truly and amazing amazing stay and we will for sure return. The staff is very nice and personable and the location of the hotel is in the best beach in the Riviera Maya. We stayed in room Al fuego which is the lower level. I think all rooms are great. The difference is that the top rooms have a better view but the bottom rooms have a plunge pool. I would recommend that the staff trim some of the bushes in front of the lower level rooms so that they can have a view of the beach. The other recommendation is to put more bottles of water in each room daily since it is so hot. other than that, everything was really spectacular. The rooms are not luxury but they are perfect! They are clean, and have wifi and air-conditioning. The best part is that you literally open the door and are on the beach. This hotel is great. I will definitely return.

AL CIELO STAFF is very thankful for your kind words and very happy that you enjoyed your stay with us.

All the 4 ocean front rooms will have a mayor renovation in september, so the bushes in front of the lower rooms will be away, so you will have an amazing view, bigger terraces and even more privacy.

This June its been crazy hot, but also we added a mini fridge in each room so your water is cold anytime you want.

Hope you can visit us again.

Kind Regards.

We had our wedding at Al cielo in May and stayed there for 3 nights. Al cielo is very beautiful.
It's a small boutique hotel, very different from those luxury resorts and is perfect if you want to escape from the busy life and have a relaxed vacation. The food and service are outstanding. We can't wait to come back next year. The beach is perfect for a wedding, the palapas are so beautiful with our colorful drapes.

Room Tip: Suite la mar has splendid view of the sea.

Our 6yr old daughter had an amazing time at Al Cielo in the Villa del Patron.
Villa del Patron: We enjoyed having a small plunge pool and beachfront access. The villa has 2 master bedrooms with individual bathrooms, a living area and a closet for bags and shoes. Each of the rooms has A/C as well as the living room. In the living area you have a stocked mini fridge and a coffee/tea maker with supplies to enjoy coffee and tea. The villa has a safe box, hair dryers in each room, baskets of toiletries, and water provided for teeth brushing. The pool is very private with a water fall wall that runs every morning, it is also cleaned everyday. The pool area has 2 sun loungers, 2 hammock chairs, 2 wood chairs and a wooden end table. The beach is literally steps from the villa with your own private palapa by the beach. Their are no words for this beach it is absolutely perfect, relaxing, swimmable, soft and quiet. You will think you are alone until Pablo comes by around one with one round of complimentary drinks and an appetizer. Our six year old was very happy without TV and we enjoyed the limited WIFI access ( reastaurant and reception only). She needed nothing but her small plunge pool and the beach. Don't miss the outdoor shower, they do have one. The beds are firm but comfortable, I am a picky person when it comes to beds.. The back bedroom bed is better than the front, I slept in both. The showers are salted water not sweet water but you'll get used to it. The Villa needs some repairs which I will mention to the very attentive owner but its nothing to write home about. They offer kites, body boards and snorkel gear on the beach.

Car Rental: Traveling to Al Cielo using Hertz rental car was a breeze. We spent a little under $600 for the week rental. The roads are very nice and safe and the road off the highway to Al Cielo is very manageable at a slow rate. We drove to Xcaret, Tulum, Puerto Aventuras and Playa del Carmen with no problems. We enjoyed stopping at the Super Che across the street from Puerto Aventuras. It was a fully stocked grocery with odds ands ends.

Food: Breakfast at the hotel is phenomenal. All items are cooked to order it is not a buffet. The quality is superb. We enjoyed pancakes, huevos rancheros, French toast, scrambled eggs, omelets, yogurt, cereal, enchiladas, fruit and the list goes on. You cannot get a better view, with the ocean breeze and sound to calm you in the morning. Dinner was also excellent we enjoyed, beef steak, coconut shrimp, penne al peso and al fredo, fish, crab cakes, tuna ceviche, red peppers with goat cheese and of course dessert. Althought the food is excellent I would recommend eating out a few times as the menu does not vary from lunch to menu. Don't be afraid to order off the menus, they will try their best to accomidate you. The coffee is excellent and the drinks are yummy. We recommend the mango carribeño and the limonada con gas both can be with or without alcohol. If your child eats good healthy foods they will have no trouble, I shared all of my meals with my daughter. Her favorite was the steamed fish in banana leaves, crab cakes and the chicken. We can't however live without Catsup but they have that. ;)

Staff: The staff is amazing and we rewarded them with many tips for service and cleaning on a daily basis. They have available to you a massage team that arrived at noon and stays until 5pm. I enjoyed my 5 minute free massage followed by my 60 minute awesome massage which was a bargain. The cleaning staff did an excellent job of cleaning and timing cleaning. 24hr security guard. Ask for the two WIFI codes each is separate for the restaurant and reception.

We will return to Al Cielo and we would not hesitate to bring our daughter. Feel free to contact with questions. I will post pictures later

Room Tip: Select a villa if you are traveling with a child. Villa del Patron is best.

We went for a wedding in the next door hotel, but we stayed in the villa in Al Cielo.

Great hotel, run by a lovely family and staff.

They picked us up from the airport with no issues.

The Villa was great.

The food was lovely (loved the breakfasts).

The beach was beautiful

The rates were very reasonable (we did have a special wedding discount though).

If we had one complaint it would be their the restaurant stops serving food at 8.30pm every evening, which we didn't know and so missed a meal on the first night. It meant we had to plan our evening meals a bit more carefully but not the end of the world.

One minor thing (not a complaint though but you should know) the hotel does not have a pool. Beautiful sea right in front of you but I know some people like a swimming pool.

If you want 5* go next door the Escencia but it is very pricy.

Otherwise, I highly recommend the Al Cielo

Enjoy.

All AL CIELO Team would like to thank you for your stay and your kind comments.

As you mention we try every day to make our guests as happy as possible, thats our main goal.

You stayed in Villa Patron, that has a private pool, we do not have a pool for all the guests, instead we have small plunge pools in all rooms except in AGUA & VIENTO.

Our restaurant always tries to stay as late as possible, but we close in between 20.30 - 21.00, we hope that the first night that you missed dinner was not a big problem, also for our late check ins we always leave a cold dinner in the room for when they arrive.

We hope that you can come in a near future and hope everything was as you expected.

Kind Regards.

Al Cielo is a wonderful boutique hotel on a beautiful, isolated beach. Andrew is a terrific host and he goes out of his way to ensure that you are taken care of. The food is excellent but the menu is fairly limited (it is the same for lunch and dinner) and the prices are higher than other local restaurants. I recommend renting a car - the roads are very good and there is a lot to explore in the area. We went for a "girls getaway" and we felt very safe but the resort is definitely geared towards couples.

Room Tip: El Patron is steps to the beach and has it's own private swimming pool.
