Creekside: Great location.
Mountain: Extraordinary terrain, snow, and natural beauty. Could use friendlier liftees. With the automated lift line gates, there is not much interaction between skiers and liftees but were they more interactive, the experience would be better.

Solitude Resort is perfect for families and for couples. The condominiums are spacious, beautifully appointed, and within a hop, skip and jump to everything in the village, including the slopes. The kitchens have all the appliances and (most) of the utensils, pots and pans of home. When we go skiing as a family, we want to go somewhere out of the way, somewhere away from "the scene". Solitude fits the bill. The resort does offer activities (tours, lectures, movies, outings) for children and adults, but there is no real nightlife aside from a bar. The food at the 2 restaurants (one upscale, one more affordable) is very good. The food on the mountain is excellent and homemade. Our tendency is to purchase food for dinner and breakfast at the bottom of the canyon, before heading up, as there is a Whole Foods right there and also an Albert's. Every time we visit, we ALWAYS make time to eat at least one breakfast and dinner at The Silver Fork Lodge, which is a fantastic restaurant (and B&B) about 3 miles south of Solitude. There never are lift lines at Solitude, and the snow is great. The slopes are steep and are black, for the most part, but there are sufficient blues and greens to keep less skilled skiiers happy. The ski school is very good. Plus, Brighton Ski Resort, which has many more blue runs and green runs is only 2 miles further up the canyon. We also take day trips, from Solitude, to ski at Alta and Snowbird, which both are located in the next canyon over, about a 45-minute drive. There is a a heated, outdoor pool, several hot tubs, and x-country skiing trails. Ski and snowboarding equipment are available for rental at the resort, but cost more money than rentals at the base of the canyon. Solitude is 40 minutes
from the SLC Airport. It is a gem. I almost thate telling people about it. There is INDOOR parking at Solitude, which is KEY because it snows so much up there.

Our stay at the Creekside Condos was great. Some are decorated better than others but the building was nice and it's definitely a favorite place of ours to ski with the kids.

We are all looking for the same thing, a safe place that the kids can feel at home, quality lodgings, and the opportunity to get fresh tracks and an early chair. This place has all of that. We had dinner family style and then sent the kids off to the playroom or the pool without worries as we could watch them from the balcony while having another glass of wine. The staff are geared for kids and families. They actually get it. How rare is that?

Room Tip: Do kid watch from a balcony facing the pool.

3' of snow in 5 days from Apr 5-9th. Stayed at Eagle Springs West with great view of and easy walk to slopes. 2-1 lift tickets on Sunday, great snow, great value.

2nd visit there. Didn't bring kids this time but great place for families. We rode Solitude for 3 days and visited Brighton for 1. Nice that they are so close and you can ski or bus back and forth.

If you haven't been, Solitude is aptly named - never a lift line. Eagle, Moonbeam and Apex lifts serve great intermediate runs. Powerhorn and Summit take you to some extremely challenging steeps and tree skiing. Horseshoe Canyon is basically lift-served backcountry.

Brighton is more geared to Boarders, with several great terrain parks. Some of the best views in UT from top of Snake Creek lift - all the way down to Heber City 4000 ft below and 30 degrees warmer. At 1700' ft of vertical Great Western is a fast, long lift to mostly black steeps and trees. If you go to Big Cottonwood try to visit both.

Love UT skiing for NYers. Reasonable flights, quick 45 min trip from SLC to Solitude.
