Owner description: Soar above a breathtaking landscape, sculpted over time, decorated by nature and enjoyed by generations.Stand on top of Dunstable Downs for a view that will simply take your breath away. These Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) are designated for the quality of their chalk grasslands. As well as two Scheduled Ancient Monuments (Five Knolls and Medieval Rabbit Warrens) there are many other historical features and the site has much to offer you.The chalk grasslands of the Downs have miles of footpaths and several circular walks, a fascinating history and an abundance of plants and wildlife.Dunstable Downs is within the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and the highest point in Bedfordshire. The wind-swept ridge provides ideal conditions for a variety of air sports, especially kite flying. On calmer days it's the ideal site to enjoy the view and a picnic. Please note: Chilterns Gateway Centre is owned by Central Bedfordshire Council and managed by the National Trust.

“Lovely destination for dog and nature lovers”
Reviewed 20 September 2012

What's not to like? Amazing views, visitor centre with light bites and drinks to help you recover from those hilly walks..and ample parking. You can enjoy watching paragliders, kites and nature on a visit up the Downs.

It is very windy so do take something to keep you warm.

Parking I think is based on a day rate not an hourly rate so ensure you have change for that. I think it is £2 for the day from 10am onwards but I am not 100% sure!

What you gain from a trip to the Downs is lovely views, fresh air, decent walks, a visitor centre, icecream van and a few points of interest. A nice free day out (aside from parking) as long as you bring your walking shoes and a wind cheater!

“Lovely Walk....Very Refreshing”
Reviewed 11 September 2012

This is a great place to take the family for an inexpensive day out. When the weather is good, Dunstable Downs is a great walk, or you could have a picnic, or you can take a kite out and fly.
Over the past few years, they have tried to upgrade it with a shop, but this does not really work as the shop is packed, and the staff seem to rush around

Great views with plenty of gliders floating on the wind on windy days. Lovely in hot weather as Downs high above sea level. Nice cafe and gift shop - no free parking £1.50 standard fee however long you stay...

A lovely place to go and walk on a nice sunny day. It can get a little windy though. An information centre with cafe is located near the car park
