We stayed here for one night as we were at a wedding in a village nearby. We love staying here as we had our wedding reception here last year in December and we have stayed here on numerous occasions in the past. Check in is painless and the rooms are always lovely. We were in room 119 which was on the ground floor towards the back of the hotel. Lovely spacious room with a nice sized bathroom and a decent shower. Very clean and very comfortable. We did an early bird booking so had booked it in advance of a month and the room tariff was very reasonable. Breakfast was in addition and was a mixture of continental and an assortment of hot breakfasts including a full English.
We always recommend this hotel to friends and relatives who visit and stay over for family functions.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms towards the back of the hotel because if there is a function going on you may be distu...

Stay here a lot for work. It's the kind of hotel I like, not a dull chain or a snobby establishment. Staff are good, place is clean, food and bar are nice. Free Wifi a bonus when working away and the Gummy Bears are a nice touch!

The only downside is breakfast service is sometimes slow, not to the same standard as restaurant and bar meals and it is so dingy in the restaurant at 7.30 in the morning, open the curtains, let some light in. I am sure the ghosts wont mind!

Stayed here a few times before but my most recent visit consisted of a Lovely meal, friendly staff, beautiful room (honeymoon suite) .....would definitely recommend. Reasonably priced and for a three course meal it was only £19.99... Look for deals on website.

Have stayed here a few times with work and it's refreshing to come to a business hotel (or one with a business focus) which has some character. I love the smell of the wood from the log fire as you enter the foyer/bar area which you don't normally get in most hotels.

The service is efficient with some staff being very warm and friendly and others a bit cool and on the whole the food is good. The bar area is comfortable with the aforementioned log fire situated there; the only downside for me is the TV in the corner with sky sports news on continuously.

The rooms are big and the bed is comfortable and there's a nice big Plasma TV on the wall. This brings me to my big bugbear with the hotel and that is the thin walls, which means you can hear people on the floor above walking about (how dare they?) and in the adjacent rooms talking on their phones, watching TV and worst of all, snoring. I routinely wear ear plugs when i stay there, and I also have provided them for colleagues. If they sorted this out then it would vastly improve my stays there.

Parking is adequate and the hotel is centrally located in Dunstable

Room Tip: Take ear plugs

Sadly disappointing stay. On arrival at about 4pm we waited several minutes in an empty reception. After enquiring at the bar where staff were we were finally checked in. Sleeping on the first night was impossible with loud music playing until after 1pm and ongoing noise until 2am. Breakfast the next morning was in a small room which was full at 9am. For continental breakfast there was some meats and cheese but only 1 tiny loaf and 2 pastries, no rolls or croissants etc. A pot of tea given to us was cold. There was only 1 member of staff trying to serve too many guests. Other guests were queuing outside the room with at least 15 minutes wait to get a table. £11.50 for a bowl of cornflakes and cold tea was excessive. We did not attempt breakfast on the 2nd morning of our stay.
On three occasions we had fresh coffee from bar. It was poured out and then each time we waited a several minutes while milk was collected from the kitchen as the coffee got cold.
Our bedroom was adequate and we had a spacious bathroom and plenty of hot water.
It was a happy family occasion marred by poor hotel service.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from entertainment rooms.

We stayed at The Old Palace Lodge for one night March 2013 and were thoroughly impressed.
We had 2 toddlers and had a family room which was spacious and well equipped. The purpose of our stay was a celebratory 60th birthday meal in one of the function rooms, this went very well, with the room being decorated nicely and food and service also at a very good standard throughout
Staff were very helpful and friendly during our stay even when our 2 toddlers were attempting to run riot at every opportunity. In addition I would also say the full english breakfast was delicious.
I would highly recomment this hotel if you need to stay in the Dunstable area.

We stayed here mid feb due to house hunting in and around Hertfordshire and really couldn't fault a thing. Great value, superb rooms and the staff really were extremely helpful and friendly. We stayed with our 20 mnth old twins and nothing was too much trouble. We were made to feel very welcome. We had room service due to the little ones and the food was fantastic too. Overall I would highly recommend and rate this little gem of a hotel. I am sure we will be returning as we continue our house hunting.
