Unbelievable value stay here overnight on a business trip to MK .Forget the fancy prices in Milton Keynes this place is amazing value and just 30 minutes drive up the A5.Without doubt the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in anywhere in the world !!!!....Honestly....Very clean room plenty of nice large towels with plenty of tea and coffee. We didnt eat in the restaurant but the breakfast menu looked very comprehensive and reasonable .Cant fault it at all

The highwayman was a lovely place for an overnight stay. We have stopped before with olde english inns and I think this is a part of it. We stayed in the bar for a meal and although I had to send my steak back as it was really tough, there was no problem at all and I was given another. Nothing was too much trouble for our waitress Kayleigh (I think her name was) and she was really professional as was all the staff. Thank you very much everyone.

I stayed here recently purely because it was cheap and within easy travelling distance of the Harry Potter Studio Tour. It is a very ropey old hotel and you get pot-luck in your room allocation. My two teenagers were in a room near the front which was quite roomy and looked reasonably clean, but the bathroom was disgusting with old fittings and black grout. The walls were paper thin and they could here everything from the rooms above.
My husband and I were in a room towards the back of hotel which was miniscule with marks on the walls, a door you had to wrestle to close, and a bathroom I barely wanted to go in case I caught something awful.
For most of our stay the fire-exit was proped open so anyone could have entered, and the lights were out in the main corridor so a torch was required to find your way back to your room. The staff rarely manned the desk and were not particularly helpful when they were around. Don't stay.

The rooms are sufficiently spacious and comfortable, even for an extended stay, the pub and restaurant are well attended and the food is good and wholesome, the menu is comprehensive, perhaps to its detriment as it is then difficult to make a final choice.
The hotel is well positioned for the airport and an easy trip into London, the town has a reasonable shopping centre and is within walking distance for most people.
The staff are friendly and helpful and willing to take the time to help and assist, they are busy and generally multi tasking, but still take the time to ensure customer satifaction takes priority.
All this for a very reasonable tariff! Excellent!

Room Tip: rooms at the rear are quieter.

We travelled from Newcastle upon Tyne we were booked to stay 2 nights (Monday & Tuesday) for my husbands birthday, however we checked out first thing on Tuesday morning, the room was filthy all surfaces dirty & dusty the paint was peeling off the window surround due to damp & mould, the bathroom was dirty the sink, toilet & bath were filthy & the shower curtain was covered in mould the bath towels had clearly already been used.
We were kept awake most of the night & wide awake by 5am due to the constant banging of the doors!
When I complained to the receptionist the following day she advised me the manager was off but he would ring me on Wednesday we still have not heard from anyone fron the hotel!!

Stopped here for a bite to eat on the way home from a few days in Derbyshire. The Classic Roast Pork consisted of cold carrots, half a cabbage leaf, bullet peas, small roast potatoes, salty stuffing and 2 slices of pork that were about 75% fat and 25% meat. The roast beef was slightly better and the curry was ok. Didn't stop for a pudding. Person who served us tried to offer us a pudding as compensation but we were keen to leave.

We booked 2 nights in September at the Highwayman on line in April. Unfortunately, we had to attend a funeral in the area in June so decided to stay there. We found that guests who booked on line had to pay £6.99 for breakfast, when guests who booked direct eat free (though the same breakfast was offered to passers by for £4.99). We complained about the discrimination to no avail. We looked into cancellation of the September stay, but the cost was the same as the stay. When we arrived in September, we were again advised the breakfast cost was £6.99. I said to the member of staff who checked us in "so the company (Hungry Horse) continues to discriminate against those who book on line", but he seemed to find that amusing. When I said that we would then eat elsewhere, it turned to a sulk. But there was worse to come: the room was small (though, in fairness, the beds were clean and comfortable). But the bathroom was antiquated and dirty, the door was too big ands did not close, neither the extractor fan nor shaving socket/light worked and both hand basin taps swivelled - the washer on the cold tap had almost gone altogether. In fairness, the shower, though antiquated, was very effective. The following evening I asked to speak to the manager and was told an assistant manager would see me (it turned out to be the person who had checked us in). I told him of our concerns. He apologised "if we found the bathroom dirty" but did not offer us an alternative room, nor offer any form of conciliation. On the following morning, a notice appeared at reception to the effect that the free breakfast offer would end at the end of September. Is this really a *** AA inn 2013? If so, their ratings are not to be trusted.

Room Tip: At least, don't take room 35.
