“A good way to spend half an hour”

The Amersham Museum is very small but it's a great half hour visit with or without the family. Full of lots of interesting facts.

“Museum to a village with a dark history”
Reviewed 30 July 2013

Old Amersham is a typical attractive village with good pubs and interesting buildings but it has its dark side. At the turn of the 17th Century, Amersham was the centre of the revolt against the use of the Latin Bible. There were two Church Courts that sentenced people to death. These were comemorated by a Martyrs Monument above the town. All this and much more is explained in the museum.

“A museum for all the family”
Reviewed 17 April 2013

A small museum but they pack a lot into it. Plenty of old toys to interest the kids but a lot of grandparents were seen playing with spinning tops etc. instead of viewing the grown-ups section. The traditional lavvy at the bottom of the garden would have emptied into the stream which runs behind the gardens. When we were there the stream was running fast and we tried to imagine the scene if all the neighbours used their lavvy at the same time. This museum is well worth a visit and has very helpful staff.
