My boyfriend and I stayed here for a romantic weekend. We paid £145 and although the room was comfortable the TV didn't work, and when we called reception to help they said their maintenance guy doesn't work at the weekend and they will send someone up. We waited over an hour and just left the room and left the TV for the duration of our stay. Having to wait around was just disappointing. We had a bottle of wine in the bedroom but no cork screw to open it. That aside it was a lot of little things that ruined the experience for us. We sat in the hotel bar and ordered drinks. The bar tender had clearly over charged us by £4 and didn't say anything or correct it until I asked to see the menu again. He admitted that he needed a manager to void the transaction as he couldn't do it himself so thought he could get away with overcharging. I thought this was really unprofessional. In the morning when we arrived in the restaurant for breakfast we were asked if we would like a coffee latte cappuccino etc. We both requested a latte but were later told that we could only have coffee or tea which I thought was fine but disappointing as they had offered it to us in the first place. Another disappointing experience was when we had finished eating breakfast we overheard one of the waiters telling another customer that they could have their eggs pouched, florentined, or royale. Such a shame they didn't tell us as we would have wanted this. The service generally was really disorganised and just disappointing. I had high hopes for this place as it's a beautiful building but for the price and experience it JUST ISNT WORTH IT.

This is a very disappointing review. I will be discussing this with the team here as it is mainly human/service failings that are highlighted. I would be grateful if you would contact me at peter.stlawrence@thecrownamersham.com

We spent a wonderful night here - the weather was gorgeous and we walked in the surrounding hills. Our beautiful room in the courtyard was beautifully decorated and had everything you could possibly want, including free snacks and ground coffee. The bed was incredibly comfortable. The only, very minor gripes, and only because the hotel is very pricey, was that there was a ventilator that started up very early in the morning opposite the room (air vent from the kitchen?) and also there were tables and chairs right outside the room so if people did want to drink late and you wanted to go to sleep early, it wouldn't be ideal. The only other downside was that they served sliced bread at breakfast. I think for the sort of hotel it is you should expect home-baked bread, and a variety. We ate in the restaurant and it was good, although again, quite expensive. Staff are great and very friendly.

Thank you for your detailed review, which will be shared with the team here. Kitchen extract fans are a painful necessity in hotels and particularly problematic in listed buildings, where they have to be tucked into the fabric of the building, rather than sent skywards.

I am glad you liked the Courtyard rooms - we think they are very special.

I note you breakfast bread comments and will have a chat with our chef about this.

We made a weekend trip out of London to Amersham which is like being in the Cotswolds yet it is just outside the M25 and on the tube! Amersham is an ancient town full of old inns and pubs. We chose The Crown to spend the weekend and were thrilled with the really ancient feel to the place but with rooms that are so beautifully restored. You get an open roll top bath in the room and a rainforest shower. There are little things like the complimentary wine and snacks, the White Company box sets, etc... Try to book a Courtyard Room as I am not sure that all of the rooms have the same specification. The bar itself is OK, nothing really special but the restaurant is great. Service was good. We will definitely return.

Popped along here for a business coffee at 10.30am today. There were a few other people there having similar sorts of meetings too, tables outside too.

Excellent space in the lounge (near bar area), great friendly service with a smile, just fantastic.

Parking also round the back, which was super helpful too (registration plate must be given at reception).

We visited for afternoon tea and had several guests with special dietary requirements including dairy and soya free and a nut allergy. The kitchen had prior warning but none the less there was no issue over providing appropriately for 8 of us and a child. The staff were all very helpful, pleasant and cheerful. The sandwiches, scones and cakes were all home-made and delicious. This was our first visit but we'll go back again and check out lunch or dinner.

Stayed here a couple of weeks ago........if you want a good nights sleep do make sure you are not allocated Room 21........the place is very old and creaky...quite charming until you require some sleep......around 3am we were woken by what sounded like someone trying to round up a herd of wilderbeast in the room above...which went on for around an hour....again at 6am we were disturbed same person trying to catch an escaping wilderbeast....I understand the hotel are not responsible for other guests behaviour,,,however when I explained our lack of sleep to the receptionist on check out she was not remotely interested....apparently if you want peace and quiet you have to book a room in the courtyard...shame they don't state this on the website at the time of booking...also requested alarm call didn't happen and breakfast order was also wrong....would not stay here again......

Room Tip: Ask to check allocated room ...as I think they will all be pretty noisy in the main building...espec...

I am sorry that you were disturbed so much by another guest. As you say it is not always in our control. Did you happen to call our night porter so he could speak to the other guest?

Clearly our receptionist should have reacted better. I will be raising this at our weekly operations meeting.

We were with family from abroad and thought that The Crown Inn would be a safe bet for lunch. On arrival the staff were very firiendly and helpful and remained so throughout our meal. However, enquiries about the wine elicited an uncertain response. Two of us began with the cauliflower soup but it was tepid and we had to return it. The second delivery of the soup was little better, still not hot enough, but we ate it rather than complain again. Cauliflower soup is usually tasty and creamy but this was lacking in flavour and watery. For the main course one of us had battered fish with mashed potatoes (chosen instead of chips) and this was OK. another of us had a salad which was heaped (rather than tastefully arranged) on the plate and had an excessive amount of dressing. It would have been better to spare the dressing and let the customer add according to taste. Two of us had the vegetable risotto. This was very plain and tasted as though vegetables (which were fine) had simply been stirred into white rice. This was not a risotto with a tasty liquor and the consistency was therefore not right. We decided to forego the desserts and have coffee. We ended as we began. The capuccinos were OK but two espressos, like the soup, were not hot. The ambience of The Crown Inn is very pleasant. The decor in this 16th century inn is striipped back to original or restored woodwork and the dining style is attractively informal. The staff were pleasant. It is a pity that all this was let down by unimaginatively presented and mediocre food.

Thank you for taking the time to give us this feedback, disappointing as it is. We will be updating our menu shortly but clearly we need to keep a focus on consistency and temperature.
Please let me know if you are passing through Amersham again as I would welcome the chance to demonstrate this was an unusual experience.
