My friend and I had afternoon tea in the Garden Room. There were many things which we thoroughly enjoyed. We had a lovely green table to sit at and I was totally fascinated by the wallpeper! The champagne was delicious and all the gorgeous sandwiches, scones and cakes were fantastic. The service was excellent and nothing was too much trouble. A beautiful old mansion furnished with good taste and really good value for money for a lovely tea. As I only live a few miles away I shall certainly spend more time there.

I spen alot of time in hotels due to my job and when in the Slough area I always stay at Stoke Place. It is excellent value for money and a stones throw from Slough, Heathrow and West London in general.

A good room size with work station and comfortable bed with a hearty breakfast and fee Wifi are always my must have's which Stoke Place delivers on all aspects.

Will continue to return.

Room Tip: The rooms are currently being updated so on booking or arrival ask for one of the refurbished rooms.

I was at Stoke Place yesterday for afternoon tea, and was most disappointed. We arrived to be told the rest of our party hadn't arrived yet, and were shown to the bar area where we were left - 15 mins later one of our party came through as she heard our voices and said they were already at the table, and had been for 20 minutes!

There was a 'skewer' sandwiches each, and those that we had were on very dry bread - like they had been sitting out for a while. We were not offered any additional sandwiches once we had eaten our allocation, which is most unusual. The service was very slow - we had to ask for more hot water for our teas after being left for an hour with nobody checking how we were doing. The scones were absolutely lovely, nice and fresh and warm but the cakes were again, very dry.

The waiter also didn't talk us through the cakes, so we had no idea what each one was before trying it, which of course may not be a problem for some people, but I would have liked to have known what was on offer!

If you're looking for a nice afternoon tea you are better off going to other places nearby - Pennyhill Park, Cowarth Park, Stoke Park and Danesfield house all do exceptional afternoon teas for much the same price!

We were part of a 2 family group who got a great deal post-New Year.
The building from the outside is quite attractive but the lobby is a bit gloomy not helped by the appalling weather.
Service veered from very personable to a bit forgetful. We had a suite which was good for a standard room size but not what I would call a suite in a 4 star country hotel but it was clean and the bathroom was spacious. Some of the furniture was a bit scuffed and Ikea-like though.

I am not convinced by the decor or the colour schemes, a lovely drawing room has quite modern furniture and the layout dictates that only one group can comfortably use it at any one time. There was a fireplace and it would immediately make it more welcoming to have that used rather than have the heating up at such fierce temperatures.
The bar area is v. attractive and comfortable - the only place to really sit back and relax.
The main restaurant is attractively furnished in modern bright colours with lovely wallpaper but the food is very nouvelle and quite old fashioned for 2014 & takes itself very seriously which is an odd contrast to the room it is served in.
Our first dinner took almost 3 hours and one hour before anything arrived. The staff are very sober and we had to wait to have 2 amuse bouches before being offered bread; when we asked for bread we were told we had to wait until after the next amuse bouches as if it might destroy out taste buds - excuse me but who is the customer here, its all a bit regimented.

The food does taste good but there just is not enough of it and too many foams, dots and crumbles. For the 3rd night we;d had enough and ate from the bar menu which, whilst limited provided ample portions and was very tasty and childrens menu was excellent.
Breakfasts were very good and came quickly. The afternoon tea too was extremely good.

If it had a more comfortable drawing room and real fires I might be tempted to return but what most people want on a country house break is to luxuriate in comfortable sofas and this hotel just doesn't provide it. Excellent value though.
It would certainly benefit from having an indoor pool and spa although of course the rates would rise.

Dear Guest

Thank you so much for your review, we are constantly looking at new ideas and trying to improve our surroundings. We are actually in the process of creating more comfy seating in certain areas of the hotel. I have passed your comments on to our restaurant manager about the restaurant service speed.

Once again thank you for your review

We were with a group for Christmas dinner here but it was not an enjoyable experience. It may not be entirely fair to single out this place because they're not alone in taking outrageous advantage of special occasions to rip off customers, by brazen overcharging and greedy desire to pack in more customers than it can properly cater for, but I think they should be named and shamed. It got off to a terrible start with drinks in the bar - two glasses of PROSECCO cost more than £21. The food tasted reasonable, but it didn't in any way resemble the printed menu - you don't really expect your lamb or turkey to come minced out of a tiny mould. The service was, as you would expect when you hire young, inexperienced people, somewhat shambolic but that wasn't their fault. The management here just showed typical contempt for the Christmas customer, seemingly unable to grasp that they're not going to return when Christmas is over.

Dear Guest

Thanks for your review, regarding your christmas meal. I was truely sorry to hear that you didn't enjoy the meal or the service. We do usually have such good feedback and it is a shame that Management were not told about this as we would have rectified the challenges for you. The team always work incredibly hard over this period to make sure all our guests are looked after so that they do want to come back. Unfortunately on this occasion we were not able to please. We will be looking into your points raised. Once again thank you for your review.

Six of us booked the New Year package at Stoke Place. It wasn't cheap at £199 pp, but seemed like a good deal as the package included cream tea to start, drinks & canapé reception, 5 course dinner with drinks, overnight stay and New Years Day brunch.
Our room (29) was recently updated and refurbished, so comfortable for a night or 2, but not enough storage for longer.
2 of our party were put into room 28, but had to be moved, as the room was freezing, heaters not working and very strong smell of paint. It took ages to get service, and we feel there were insufficient staff on duty in reception. They were eventually moved to room 1, which was fine.

The cream tea was ok as plenty of cream & jam, but only 2 (fresh cooked and warm) scones each and no sandwiches or cakes.
The drinks reception included live music which set the mood. And canapés kept coming. We ate at 9 pm, and cannot praise the meal highly enough. The food was excellent, well up to Michelin star standard. The accompanying drinks were good but not generous portions.
Service was patchy, and we only just made it to the music room for the midnight hour.
The live group were young & enthusiastic, but amazingly they did not play 'Auld Lang Syne'. Nor did they have a recorded version to play. So it was the first year ever, that we have seen in the New Year without singing 'Auld Lang Syne'. A black mark for that.
Next, we went to the bar for drinks and were joined by the hotel's owner, who was very hospitable and chatty and invited us to join his party fro a while.
Brunch was very good, with lots of choice, but staff were very confused and didn't initially understand the difference between breakfast and brunch. But as soon as brunch menus were forthcoming, it was plain sailing.
We recommend Stoke Place.

We stayed at Stoke Place with a group of friends for two nights just after New Years.

We were housed in the garden rooms which appear to be a new addition to the hotel.

These rooms are modern and well equipped although very "cosy" and did smell damp. The heater had a mind of it's own so we ended up turning it off as the room got hot very quickly. The underfloor heating in the new bathroom was a nice touch although most of our group battled with lack of hot water in the shower.

Another couple in our group had a terrible nights sleep as their bed creaked and groaned with the slightest movement and had to move room the next day.

We ate breakfast and one lunch from the bar menu at the hotel. The food was very good although there was quite a wait for the bar food and 20 minutes wait for a drink with that - not the best service.

We ended up eating dinner at The Red Lion pub both nights which is a few minutes walk away and was the highlight of our stay.

The hotel could do with a spring clean - there were a lot of cob webs everywhere and insect filled lights fittings etc. The bar had a few sprigs of ivy growing INTO it from outside.

The weather was dire but what we managed to see of the grounds was lovely and the lake would be spectacular on a nice summers day.

Staff all seemed totally indifferent and not very warm or welcoming.

Still not sure if it's a (poor) four star or (decent) three star hotel.

Unfortunately wouldn't recommend and won't be returning.
