“A Wonderful Retreat!”
Reviewed 9 July 2014

I recently stayed at Taplow House as a birthday treat and what a treat it was. From the moment I arrived I felt special. The staff were friendly, helpful and courteous and the rooms were spotless - I don't think I've ever stayed at another hotel with such clean and elegant rooms. The hotel setting is beautiful with nice open grounds and gardens. The food was out of this world, really delicious and full of flavour. All in all it was a memorable experience and I shall certainly be visiting again. I highly recommend this Hotel.

Dear APS64

Belated happy birthday! I am delighted that your treat was so special. Your comments about the level of cleanliness and elegance in our bedrooms are most pleasing indeed.

The chef has successfully created an exciting menu using the freshest ingredients which, as you say, are bursting with flavour.

Thank you so very much for this review and please do come again.

Stayed here twice. Once for a friends wedding and once for a works Christmas party. Both stays were comfortable. Great rooms, clean and cosy. Bathrooms are good. Food is excellent, lots of choice. Ideal place to stay if you are in the area. Highly recommend it.

This quintessentially English manor provided a wonderful retreat from the big city, and a perfect spot to spend the evening after a dinner at The Fat Duck in Bray. Lovely staff, beautiful grounds, and easy to reach location made it ideal. It is just a 30 minute train ride (11 pounds) from Paddington Station, and then a quick taxi ride to the hotel. The rooms were quaintly decorated, with complimentary tea and coffee available. The staff was very friendly and helpful in getting us situated and making travel arrangements in and out of the hotel. Although we did not hear the people in the room next to us, it was easy to hear people in the hallway- there was a large wedding party with lots of families and children. Didn't bother us, but might be an issue for some- ask for an appropriate room upon check in. The only drawback was our room service- part of the order was a mistake; but the food was very good anyway and we found no need to return the order. Highly recommended for those looking to get outside the city for a bit of the English countryside!

A great review of Taplow - thank you so much.

As you say it is a lovely retreat so close to London. I do apologise that there was a mistake with your room service, I am hoping that you informed reception, even though you did not return the order. You are our guests after all! The team and I appreciate that you “Highly recommend” us. We certainly try our hardest to be the best at what we do.

Have an excellent remainder of your holiday.

We stayed here for 2 nights in early June and were extremely impressed with all aspects of the hotel. The staff were always very polite and helpful. The rooms were very clean and a pleasant surprise. But the biggest surprise of all was the food. Wow...... the food here has not been mentioned enough, even if you only visit for dinner this restaurant is brilliant.and you will not be disappointed. All of the food was very well presented and tasted amazing, very impressive well chef. Enjoy.

Stayed here recently for a weekend with my family upon recommendation from friends. What a lovely place this is to go to and relax and get away from busy London.
The staff were lovely and the front desk very helpful and attentive. Our room was spacious enough for us and looked recently refurbished.
The grounds are lovely and in the evening it is great to sit outside for a drink. I thought breakfast was fabulous and made to order and with a buffet for the cold items and cereals (unlike previous review). All in all I will be back for sure whenever in need of some peace and quiet as I thoroughly enjoyed my stay. This hotel is certainly value for money and very reasonably priced.

Dear Dutchboy74

Thank you for your fantastic review. You are so right about Taplow being a wonderful retreat and yet so close to London. A great setting for serious relaxation.

The rooms have indeed been recently refurbished, some with lovely views of the gardens. All are air-conditioned, which is essential during these glorious summer months.

Our breakfast is made to order although I must admit that during busy weekends we do provide a buffet which is of an extremely high standard, and our team are always on hand to take an order should it be required. Our ingredients are sourced locally as much as possible.

We look forward to welcoming you back. May I suggest that you book directly with our reception team and always look us up on line as we regularly have special offers.

A delightful review to read and I thank you again from all of the team at Taplow.

We came for two nights to celebrate our Ruby Wedding anniversary. We used to live in the village many years ago and were pleased that little has changed in Taplow. We had a comfortable room overlooking the gardens, watching the rabbits. Came on a deal which included dinner on the first night in Berry's Restaurant. Excellent meal with good service in an elegant restaurant. Only quibble is they charge for wifi.

Dear APB3

Firstly congratulations on your very special Ruby anniversary, and welcome back to the village of Taplow. I am so delighted that our hard working team looked after you. The menu in Berry’s restaurant is new and exciting, using local and seasonal ingredients.

Just a note with regards to the Wifi - it sure is free here at Taplow House and it boasts an extremely strong connection. We simply ask that guests use a code which is available at reception. I am so sorry if this was not made clear to you.

Thank you for taking the time to submit this lovely review and for choosing Taplow House Hotel. I do hope that you will both return soon.

Sincerely

Have stayed here on many occasions in the past and as you will see from my previous review it was a wonderful place to stay.

While the quality of food is still very good and the rooms were clean, in general I feel that this hotel has lost its lustre.

My biggest gripe was that they have followed the corporate style of having a buffet breakfast where as previously it was cooked to order which resulted in me only having breakfast one morning and not bothering afterwards even though the cost included Bed & Breakfast.

With regards to the evening meal - what a difference a maitre 'd' can make.

Staff on our previous visits had a knowledge and a willingness to serve, further training is required.
