We booked the Barn Owl last minute, the owner was quick to respond and very helpful with instructions and information. We arrived around lunch time and was able to get into the barn straight away, we were given a quick tour and then handed the key and left to unpack. First impressions of the barn were lovely but very small! To be fair it has everything you need even with a stow away hob, however there would not be room in the kitvhen for you to prepare food, dish up and be seated comfortable.
The upstairs is bigger and with a couch and tv it doubles up as a sitting area, something to be very aware of before you book is that the beam seen in the bedroom picture is low and you do have to stoop underneath it to get around the room.
The heating was good in the sense that it came on very quick, however the upstairs does get very hot very quickly and the kitchen area doesnt seem to get warm very much at all probably not helped by the stone flooring. None of the rads are thermostatic so if you are somebody that likes a cool environment to sleep in then I suggest turning the heating off a good hour before you sleep.
Overall the barn is very close to two pubs in the village, unfortunately the Dog and Duck was not ope when we visited but it looked lovey. A 5/10 minute walk and you have local amentites too, a newsagent, a co op and a chinese takeway.
All in all a nice little spot for a restful , quiet weekend.

Its hard to review this as a 'B & B' or a 'hotel' because to me it seems to be about so much more than that. Michelle and John really do go that extra mile to ensure you have a great stay- without being at all intrusive, which is a real problem in some B&B's. After staying here I always feel so relaxed and refreshed.
With regards to facilities, it is completely self conatined- own kitchen, with oven, fridge, etc. Own bathroom with large (and powerful) shower. Bedroom has a double bed, sofa bed, TV, wardrobe.
Its genuinley just a really nice place run by really nice people in a really nice area. I've been quite a few times now and I've never regretted it. I've never stayed in a place quite like it.
Its on a nice quiet lane with some other cottages. There is a sports centre with pool less than 10 minutes walk away, a vineyard/wine tasting company about 10 minutes drive away and is less than 10 minutes from Saffron Walden Town Centre which is great for getting anything you need. Also being only 15 minutes drive from Audley End Station (direct services to Liverpool Street) its a good option for someone in London for a few days who wants to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city in the evenings.
Would 100% recommend and definitely stay again if I'm in the area.
If ever business was run as efficiently and caringly as this one, recessions would well and truly be a thing of the past. Its a real reflection of Michelles and Johns commitment to providing a incredibly high standard product.
Great couple of days spent here while touring and was by far the best place we stayed at. The photos do not do it justice and they are lovely hosts. Pretty much a self contained set up with breakfast left for you to have whenever you like. Can also recommend the Crown Inn down the road.
We stayed for two nights and might have stayed longer, had we known what a gem of a place it was. Self-contained, with a self-catering facility and the option to eat and relax in the enclosed private yard. We had planned to eat our main meals out. So, only took up the excellent and healthy breakfast option, made up of ingredients from the upper end of the gastronomic league.
The accommodation was cosy and quiet with tasteful contemporary furnishings. A friendly oak beam located beyond the foot of the bed might be considered a little challenging for the less agile.
The hosts were very pleasant and helpful without being in any way intrusive, a feature which is often lacking in similar establishments.
My only slight (selfish) reservation is that by writing about the attractiveness of the "Barn Owl", I may encourage too many visitors, thereby limiting my chances of finding a comfortable abode at short-notice, in the future.
We had a winetasting tour at nearby chilford hall as a gift, so booked to stay overnight. Then thought why not make it a weekend break, so glad we did! The barn is beautful, attention to detail amazing, had everything you could possibly need. Hosts more than helpful. Linton is a quaint unspolit pictureesque village, local pubs good too!
All in all, a lovely weekend, we'll definately be going back.
We stayed here for one night, after having spent the day wine tasting at nearby Chilford Hall. Michelle and John were so hospitable, and nothing was too much trouble, even meeting us at Chilford to show us the way to walk back to the Barn and then offering us a lift back later in the afternoon to collect the car. They seemed so intent on us having a great time that they provided us with pub recommendations, guides to walks around the area and even offered to lend us their bikes if we fancied a ride in the countryside! Above and beyond the expectations of a normal B&B.
The little barn itself was fantastic and we had a really lovely stay. The barn is so well appointed, furnished to a very high spec (inc, large flat screen HDTV) and was spotlessly clean and fresh. The bed was so comfy and we both had a great night's sleep!
The breakfast Michelle has left for us was lovely and the fresh raspberries were absolutely delicious.
I would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending this little haven for a short break - it really is everything you need in a beautiful setting and village.
Just stayed at the Barn Owl B&B for the night.
It was a lovely set up being separate from the main house so very private. Very spacious on two levels, lovely high standard of decoration, very clean, lovely comfortable bed. We really enjoyed having our breakfast out in the garden. Would highly recommend:-)
