The sheen Mill has been taken over by new people and been a local was never a fan before, i must say whether you have a full 3 course meal, just drinks or even pop by for an afternoon coffee it is great, nice atmosphere and a warm welcome. Been a fussy eater my recent experience has been great food with a management who is very accommodating
to your likes and dislikes and will tailor the menu to ensure you have a good experience. My recommendation give it a try you will be impressed.

My girlfriend and i went to the late Christmas party on friday 11th Jan 2013. We've heard the sheene mill is under new management, and by the looks of it they're making a lot of progress and positive changes to the place! Its a gorgeous building, that is now getting the TLC it deserves. The staff were all very helpful and friendly. The Christmas party was a lot of fun, with a great band that really got the evening going. The food was exquisite, really top notch. The staff would regularly pop over for a friendly chat. It was a great evening, really a lot of fun. The room we stayed in was a roomy double, very quiet and it looked brand new. Coming up from London, and wanting a romantic evening out -this really was a great getaway. Very relaxing, and the whole place is very charming. I would come back again, and I would recommend to anyone

Myself and my father went for lunch today 07/01/2013 at Sheene Mill after hearing it had changed hands. The owner Serena greeted us warmly and after seating us for drinks explained what was envisaged for this lovely hotel and restaurant. We ordered the three course lunch very competitively priced at £19.95. The food was excellent and presented to a high standard as was the service, attentive without being intrusive. All the staff we encountered were helpfull and efficient. The decor needs a little updating as a bit tired looking but this is in progress as we speak. I will be recommending to all my friends and will be visiting to eat there again very soon. Well done Serena and all your staff.

I stayed for a night last week with work. Close to Meldreth station, I had a lovely big room with a comfy bed and a powerful shower. Breakfast was plentiful and high quality. The lady on reception was really helpful.

We needed to stay overnight in Melbourn and decided to give Sheene Mill a try.
The double room ('Veronica' - why give the rooms such pretentious names?) was reasonably good in that it was warm and the bed was clean and comfortable. However, the fittings and furniture were old and shabby.

The en-suite bathroom was tiny, with a dangerous step up into it. The toilet seat was loose and slid off sideways when you sat on it. The shower surround was shabby and poorly sealed, with stains and mould. But the worst thing was the bathroom floor which was extremely uneven and unstable: the soft lino floor covering seemed to be placed directly over loose floorboards which flexed up and down as you moved around. We were extremely uncertain about its safety - it felt in places that you were going to fall through the floor; definitely a health and safety risk. Judging by the loud creaking sounds coming from the ceiling, it sounded as if other rooms above ours had similar floor problems.

We decided to give the restaurant a try for the evening meal but were disappointed with the very limited vegetarian options. Although the food was tasty, the portions were tiny: this was nouvelle cuisine gone mad, and completely over-priced. Breakfast the next morning was similarly disappointing.

The hotel and waiting staff were over-polite, almost to the point of being obsequious.

All in all, the Sheene Mill could be good, but it needs smartening up, attention paying to detail of the fabric and the services on offer. At the moment it is trying too hard and failing miserably.

In over twenty years experience of travelling and staying in hotels and B&Bs, this has to be one of our worst ever stays. We will not be returning.

We came here in early October to celebrate the wedding of our friends, its in a lovely setting, with real character and charm, had the pleasure of a great room overlooking the mill pond with ducks and a swan meandering around.
The wedding was held on the lawn and lucky for the time of year the sun shone all day.
The food was excellent and the service superb. We have a small child and the staff were happy to accommodate our requests.
This would be a great place for a weekend get way and would not dissapoint.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the back, they overlook the mill pond. we had room 4.

I booked the Sheen Mill on their 1 night dinner/bed/breakfast package for a surprise anniversary treat for my husband and I, and we were very disappointed. To be fair, the food and restaurant were excellent, and the staff very helpful and obliging, but our room, the Emmanuel Room, felt very 'shabby' ! The pale beige carpet was badly stained in many places, and in one part looked as if someone had spilt a bottle of something and dribbled it across the whole room. The walls are in need of a coat of paint, and although my husband and I are a very close couple, we like our own privacy whilst in the bathroom. The half length swinging 'saloon' type doors unfortunately did not afford any privacy at all. I'm sure that with a lot of TLC this place could be an ideal weekend relaxing break, as the outlook over the river is lovely and the perfect setting for weddings which they cater for. However, the whole building seemed as if it really needed a good overhaul.

We are the new owners of The Sheene Mill since 2/1/2013 and we are dedicated to transforming the building back to its former glory.

We are really sorry to hear that your stay wasn't as fantastic as we would expect. We have watched the building decline over the years as we live locally. Now we have the opportunity to fix all the things that were done wrong in the past... and we have already done a great deal in a short space.

I really hope that you can come and try us again.

Regards

Serena & Jordan
