“A lovely pub gone downhill”

I totally agree with the previous review, this was once a lovely place to go for a special occasion but now its overpriced & lacks customer satisfaction in all areas.

“Edible but only just”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 March 2010

After visiting the Eaton Oak last Wednesday with friends new to the area we were very dissappointed by not only the standard of the food but also of the service. The young lass serving obviously lacked formal training and although a nice enough person was a poor waitress.

The food is as follows:
1. Whitebait starter - exceptionally oily made worse by the excess of olive oil in the salad dressing. Lettuce and Celery blackened at the edges, obviously not fresh.
2. Stake and Ale pie, meat OK but crust required a jackhammer to break, suspect a premade pie reheated in microwave.
3. Italian chicken, Presentation abysmal, taste awful, tasted like chicken going off. Suspect a premade dish reheated in MW.
4. Half a roast duck, consisted of 2 leg and thigh joints a spoonful of dried up peas and undercooked chips.
5. Medium cooked rump steak. Must have been shown the grill from 20 yards for 30 seconds and was tough. To be fair flavour OK. Side salad again swimming in olive oil dressing and obvioulsly pre prepared ingredients as again the lettuce and celery blackening at the edges. Undercooked chips
6. Sweet of Lemon Merangue pie looked and tasted like a budget range pie from one of the large supermarkets, It certainly did not look home made. Taste OK but not worth the money.

I have used this restaurant many times in the past but that was the last time, I would like to have been able to have given the Eaton Oak a rating but I am afraid for the food it was abysmal. I would not recommend this establishment to anyone unless they were not going to eat there. My rating for this restaurant (Not the hotel) is 1 out of 10.
