Stayed for 3 nights and I have to say that the accomodation was well appointed and the en-suite superb! There was plenty of tea and coffee in the room and the toffee sweet on the saucer was a nice touch. I decided to eat in the restaurant and again I was not disappointed. As mentioned on previous reviews, the steak was delicious and perfectly cooked. Breakfast was equally as good, with plenty of fruit juice and coffee. The service in the restaurant was also excellent and the staff friendly and attentive. All told this is a place I shall definitely rebook if I am in the area again!

We visited the Elm Tree Inn today for a special occasion and was delighted at the quality of food and service we received. The host for our table, Elias, was extremely hospitable, keeping calm and professional in a busy environment. Between us, we had most of the starters, and we had three courses. For a two course lunch for $9.95, it was exceptional value and I would happily return. Thank you for a great experience. Highly recommended.

We have now eaten 3 times since Neil and his family took over. The Monday Steak Special is a real treat and great value for money? Our steaks were cooked to perfection with just the right amount of home cooked chips or salad if you preferred. We also enjoy our weekly Friday early evening drnk with local friends and have been served with free nachos. A lovely touch. Good service and a crisp Sauvignon Blanc. Elm's little jewel in the crown!

SUMMARY
We booked two rooms on a Friday night as we were travelling to Great Yarmouth (for the week ahead) from Manchester with my elderly father (89) and to complete the journey in a single day in comfort would have been difficult. How glad we were to have found this hidden gem ideally placed just off our route. We will be staying here again on future expeditions as the rooms and public areas are newly refurbished and the service is very friendly - just what you need when travelling.

DETAIL
We arrived later than hoped (8pm) due to traffic queues around Long Sutton but we soon settled in. Ricardo showed us to our rooms and when we were ready to eat, not long after this, he showed us to a nice quiet table in the restaurant, (other side of the building from the bar, which was a bit noisier) brought our drinks to the table and helped us round the menu. Just to say in passing.....even the locals in the bar area gave us a smile as we passed through (even though we are technically "off-comers" in this village). Ricardo told us we just had to ask if we needed anything and we got the impression that Neil the owner was also around most of the time if we got stuck; this is "hands on" management - which is very good to see! We met Neil the next morning as he was in charge of breakfast. All staff were friendly and efficient but especially Ricardo and Neil, who clearly have pride in their service delivery.

Our rooms were lovely and clean and following the refurbishment fabrics were all in good condition - curtains, carpets, etc. Linen was fresh, mattresses very comfortable and towels lovely and fluffy. Tea-making facilities in both rooms. The showers were "as new" and the tiling was all freshly grouted.

There were a few things we would recommend that Neil sorts out when he has the resources - primarily please continue the covered area at the side of the Hotel (car park side) to INCLUDE the steps up to the bedrooms and the residents patio area. The steps are painted in a "grippy" paint but the decking is still a bit tricky after rain. It would be great if a canopy could be erected over the steps and the upper patio, when Neil can afford to do this, so that residents do not have to venture into the rain after meals and when returning to their rooms.

Other suggestions (hopefully more affordable) would be to provide shaver points in the en-suite bathrooms and to make sure that the dressing table mirrors are all repositioned so that they hang over the dressing table rather than at one side of the dressing table; otherwise it's a bit of a neck-stretch with hairdryer in hand to be looking sideways all the time.

Finally, (again, little cost involved), Neil should ask a senior member of staff to check all rooms before new guests arrive for a full compliment of toiletries, biscuits, tea coffee and MILK. A quick check is all that's needed to ensure that the welcome pack meets all expectations. A small thing but so easy to get right. Saves guests having to ask later and then perhaps at an inconvenient time when staff are busy looking after the bar and restaurant.

The music in the bar and restaurant (evening meal and breakfast) does not have to be as loud as it was - we were awoken very early by the music at breakfast because our rooms looked out over the street and were directly above the bar area. In contrast, the village street itself was very quiet overnight, we had a good rest and we enjoyed the rest of our week's holiday.

These small recommendations are hopefully easy for you to fix and will help you move to more five star reviews - you are not far off that target - well done and thanks for a lovely overnight stay!

Room Tip: If you want a good night's sleep (and depending on whether you are above the bar or restaurant), just check when the music will stop/start to be played in the evening/morning and how loudly it is likely to be played.
