“Disappointing stay at a lovely hotel”
Reviewed 9 July 2014

Have used this hotel for several business meetings and also attended a couple of weddings. Stayed here in May for a friends big birthday bash at a local restuarant. The room was small but nice and clean and fresh. For a hotel of it's stature you would have expected breakfast to order as with other similar type hotels in Cheshire. Tea and coffee were ordered and took over half an hour to arrive, the restaurant was not overly busy. Several people complained about the service. The self service breakfast is located in a particularly awkard area, on the occasion we stayed there a couple who had had their reception at the hotel the evening before were sat on a table at the end of the buffet area, they were constantly interrupted by people trying to get bacon and sausages from the trays. For the price paid and the grandeur of the hotel in an affluent area, a cooked breakfast should be ordered and served to your table and not left under heat lamps to go lukewarm and dry!

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back overlooking the gardens

This is a good place to stay if you have a flight the next day out of the Manchester Airport in England. There is a good restaurant and the hotel is located in a quiet suburb within a half hour of the airport. The service is friendly. There is no air conditioning and it can get quite warm in the rooms. The rooms are a bit worn as is typical of a high turnover facility, but the place is quite comfortable.

Room Tip: Rooms can be quite small so look for an upgrade; avoid the courtyard as late night revelers use the...

Visited the hotel at the weekend and paid £145.00 for the Superior room. The web site stated there would a mini bar and complimentary bowl of fruit, there were none. The room overlooked the waste bins, which you would not expect from a Superior room. There was a droning noise all evening which finally disappeared only to return at 7am. I can only assume it was the water heating system or extractor fan from the kitchen. The walls are paper thin and you can hear all the noise from the room above and from the side.

On a positive side, the bed was lovely and the staff were very helpful.

Stayed here for business. Rooms were nice and clean, had all the amenities such as tea and coffee, kettle, iron etc. My toilet did not flush fully however. The front desk staff were very helpful and pleasant. The breakfast was a nice variety however the quality of food was not consistent. Some days the presentation of food was sloppy and other days well presented. The conference lunch was also provided by the hotel and the worst thing was being rationed for dessert because they did not know if they had enough for everyone-this happened every day of the week that we were there.

Stayed with a wedding party with family and we where very disappointed.

The rooms where small, decor was old and shabby.
Bathroom scruffy, bath was really bad .breakfast service was bad and all this for premium price. Food slopped on a plate.
Been many times in the past but it's gone down hill. Never again!!!!

Stayed here for one night with my wife recently.
Must admit we were both expecting much more, perhaps due to the location and reputation of this long running establishment.
We’ve eaten there many times in the past (and enjoyed it) but this was the first time we’d stayed there, although it’s been refurbished since we last ate there a few years ago.
On this occasion though we only had breakfast.

As a hotel, there is a manned front desk so checking in was easy.
Our room was on the first floor and although clean and comfortable it was much smaller than we’d anticipated.
Sure everything in the room was of quality, from furnishings to linins etc.
But why supply only one bath robe for a booking made for two?
Everything works TV, fridge, phone etc.

Sleep quality was good and the temperature of the room was easily controlled.

The bathroom was very small and let down by areas where the wood has started to decay due to contact with the water.

Shame as we just didn’t expect this, nor did we expect to hear the noise from the car park or lift and corridor outside our room.

Breakfast was fine, cold items from the buffet and hot items made to order.
Great as its fresh and there is no waste, but why does it take over half an hour to grill a few items and fry an egg?

So would stay here again as it’s a great location, ample free parking and the staff all seem willing and able.
Somehow we both left feeling a little disappointed, difficult to pin point exactly what though, perhaps it was just our initial high expectation.

Room Tip: Ask for one away from the car park.

We met family who were staying at the hotel for light meal and drinks in an evening. Most of us ordered open sandwiches which were extremely disappointing. All were on sour dough bread which is an odd choice as it is fairly hard, chewy and tasteless. They were presented piled with the chosen filling which meant you had to use a knife and fork to eat them, which was made very difficult by the chewy bread! Come on, there are so many kinds of lovely bread available, have some imagination and choose something appetising!
