Arriving at the Hall looking forward to a meal then drinks on the terrace overlooking the great views before a good nights sleep and up early to get to Alton Towers, we saw 2 disgruntled couples dragging their bags back to their cars.
Waiting to check in a gent at the bar told us they'd overbooked and those couples had been sent to stay elsewhere. We got the same news despite having booked through laterooms.com a fortnight earlier. We were sent to a farmstay B&B in another village with assurance it would be the same price. We didn't want to pay the same price for a B&B without restaurant or proper bar, and were less than pleased when the proprieter wanted us to pay even more. So instead of the evening we'd planned and with it getting late, we set out to find somewhere to eat elsewhere, and were just lucky that the local pub would still serve us food.
VERY disappointing. How difficult is it for Whiston Hall to know how many rooms they've booked out - made us wonder about what the rest of their service would've been like.

for £80 for 3 of us i was very pleased. After a long day at Alton Towers this is a lovely placve to relax. The room was comfortable and th bathroom huge. My main 2 niggles are a) check in - we were not shown to our room as it was outside we had to find our own way!! b) i ang to check the reservation as it was booked via a 3rd company website and they had no record so it was rebooked. upon arrival the room was set up for 4!!! Breakfast was gorgeous.

We booked here for one night as we had a 2 day pass for Alton Towers. On arrival i paid for the room at reception via my debit card. My card was declined twice by the hotels machine , which was a little suspious as i read the previous comments saying the card machine was not working and i had just used my card to get petrol which was fine. So like previous comments take cash with you as i think this is a ploy to get you to pay cash and they didnt give me no reciept either. The room was basic but nice and clean, but unfortunately you can here every word of other guests conversation when we was trying to sleep. So like previous comments do not stay here if you want a peaceful sleep as you will not get one. Breakfast was ok , just dont expect too much .

Stayed at the hotel as my brother was getting married at Consall Hall Gardens, Wetley Rocks, Consall. Hotel was fantastic, ample parking, friendly service, cot bed in room for my young daughter, bed was a super king size, amazing, continental breakfast included within the price although a full english breakfast was an additional £4.95, but worthwhile. Gold Course looks great, great location, friendly staff, and an enjoyable experience.

Room Tip: Book early.

Negatives (ONLY ONE but has to be said)
After reading reviews of this establishment I was hesitant before arriving. Things did not start well when they did not seem to have our booking at all. When I had booked the previous night over the phone I had been told that their systems were down and that the credit card machine was not working (similar to previous reveiewers). So I brought cash with us. (no hardship).

Positives (All GOOD)
Although there was obviously a mix up with our booking, the staff were extrremely friendly and still sorted us out a room with a double bed as we had requested. The room was clean and tidy. Bathroom was spotless and hot water a plenty.
The room was quite during the night with no disturbances. The view out the window was of the back courtyard but still nice enough for what we needed.
We had the whole experience and had our evening meal there as well. The meal was fairly priced and tasted delicious!! It was obviously home cooked. The menu wasn't extensive but made up for it with the taste.
Spent the rest of the evening in the club house having a few drinks and watching tv. Staff were still friendly and engaged us in conversation. I think this is always a nice gesture to make you feel at home.
Breakfast in the morning was served promptly and tasted delicious again. Again all staff were polite whilst we checked out. Bills were settled and all prices were accurate.

Overall:
I would reccomend this hotel to anyone. Although relatively small, it is perfect for a stop over after Alton Towers without having to go to big commercial venues. The front of house courtyard is smart with a beautifully placed fountain in its centre.
Don't believe all its bad press from the reviewers. I would most definately make a second visit, just make sure you double confirm your booking as there is obviously some disorganisation there somewhere.

Room Tip: Double confirm bookings
