I wanted to stay around the Sandbach area on Friday 8th March 2014, as I was meeting friends around that area. I wanted somewhere reasonably cheap and with easy access to public transport.

Having scoured the net, I came across the Hunters Lodge at a very reasonable price as I had left it until the actual date of stay. Having read a few reviews on TripAdvisor regarding, thin walls, and being in need of modernisation, and being in the middle of a housing estate, I was a little sceptical, but I wanted somewhere cheap for only one night, so I booked it on-line.

Having arrived about 5pm, there was a large wedding reception in full swing, with all in a good mood. There was no one else booking in at check-in, so this an easy process from a very friendly receptionist, who took my cash and gave me the key card for my single room on the Ground Floor annex being 124.

Although the room was quite small, it was spotlessly clean with lots of channels on the flat TV and all the usual facilities, hair dryer (not that I have any) and Corby Trouser press, tea and coffee making facilities. The bathroom was a shower only affair, but again was clean with soaps and shower gel etc.

Having got back about 1am on the Saturday, there was no noise from the other rooms, the bed had clean sheets and was very comfortable with an extra pillow if required.

I did not try the breakfast, but this place is big, and therefore can accommodate numerous people if required. There is lots of parking; it is within 20 minutes’ walk of the centre of Crewe and the railway station. It does not feel like it is in the middle of a housing estate. It is very easy to find from the 3rd roundabout before Crewe.

So to sum up a “Rather Excellent” place to stay, if you need reasonable priced good accommodation in this area, I can’t recommend this place enough, exorbitant 5 star hotels are not required when you have this place, Well Done………

Seven or eight years ago I stayed in this hotel a great deal and thoroughly enjoyed it. As a non-chain staff turnover was low, the food good and the rooms up to date and modern. Returning this year the place seems as busy as ever but the owners would do well do check what the opposition are up to. The rooms are looking a little tired now although the whole place is spotlessly clean. The reception staff are still very welcoming and friendly. If there has been a decline its in the bar. The staff here were busy and self-absorbed though I could not fault the service. The old friendliness was absent though. The quality of the food has also declined, it used to be excellent in the bar, now it is merely good. For example, they used to do a traditional prawn cocktail which was a medley of ingredients. Now it appears to be a massive wedge of small, tasteless prawns in a sauce.
I would still happily recommend the Hunters Lodge but urge the owners to think about some decoration and look closely at the operation of the bar.

Room Tip: Some of the rooms overlook open farmland.

We arrived just after dark and found the hotel welcoming. We ate in the bar, which had a good choice of food and real ales. The chicken and leek pie hit the spot! Our bedroom was at the rear with a view onto fields and was clean and quiet with a comfortable bed and good bathroom. Breakfast the following morning was fine and all in all the hotel ticked all the boxes for a good overnight stay.

My boyfriend and I stayed here for two nights, was a great find after booking this through late rooms.com We arrived late evening and the reception staff were very friendly and helpful. Our room was in the outer buildings of the original hotel which is literally a 2min walk across from the reception building. We were very pleasantly suprised by the standard of the room. It was a bit dated but nothing to complain about! The en-suite was very modern and the shower was fab :) Everything was clean and the bed was comfy.

We enjoyed a lovely meal in the bar, again the staff were lovely and chatty. The food was good too and we thought it was great value for money. The decor of the bar was very homely and is in the original part of the hotel/lodges.

We will definitely stay here again :)

Room Tip: Try and get a room with views onto the the fields.
