Reviewed 22 October 2011

Our long stay at the Handforth lodge will be a happy memory as the manager Mr Rabbee, and his family made us feel right at home from the beggining!
A very good B&B with warm and hospitable people who will do anything for you to feel comfortable!
We would definatelly reccomend it to everybody.

i stayed at the handforth lodge for one night as me and my husband were attending a wedding reception and the hotel was full.Has we live in bolton it would have been expensive in a taxi has the wedding was in cheadle so we found the handforth lodge online it was a short distance from the wedding venue. The place looked a lot better online than in reality,we arrived and both sort of sighed, luckily we did,nt arrive until 6pm as we ate out and did some shopping which left less time in the shabby room.Good job we showered before we left the small bathroom was in need of a decent clean the toilet was stained with stale urine and muck under the toilet seat. The shower was small and had damp patches around and slight scum stains euk! Also i took all the relivent toiletries but i did,nt pack soap has ive stayed in many hotels and expected a small toiletry pack oh no all there was was a bottle of antibac soap so had to wash in this not good. The toilet roll holder was broke and the bathmat was soiled. On the plus side clean towels were supplied.breakfast was of a continental style but we gave it a miss and headed home.On our departure it said ring for the housekeeper to leave your key we rang numerous times and nobody came to us,some member of staff saw us waiting so we asked her if we could leave the key with her she was very rude and said wait for the housekeeper we told her we wanted to leave she shrugged and walked away, eventually the young lady who checked us in took our key and another guest began complaining to her about the standard of her room not good. The older guy who was on reception on saturday evening to be fair was very pleasent and helpful but at £43 per night it was well over priced. It was dated dull dismill and in need of a complete steam clean.I could,nt wait to leave on Sunday morning and get home for a nice bath and freshen up.

stayed here for 2 nights with my husband and friend to visit relatives in a care home in styall. welcomed to hotel and shown rooms but after travelling from Scotland we just dumped the cases as we wanted to get to the care home and did not come back to the room till 9.30.p.m. in room 11 our friend found the toilet had been used and not flushed and had to clean all the toilet before she could use it. In ou room (12) someone had used the toilet and human dirt still left in it. sink had a scum over it and when I opened the shower door to find an empty sachet of shampoo on the shelf and the tiles were disgusting, filthy and no way could I use the shower.
On the computer breakfast shows eggs ect. but it was help yourself to make tea, coffee orange juice and a loaf of bread still in its wrapper. so all we could have was toast and coffee. I know it was continental breakfast but it was the most basic they could do, no staff to be seen!!!!
next time we will go to a premier inn, cheaper and most definately cleaner.

Hideous experience. My partner and I arrived from a flight at 1 am and were pretty exhausted after the day's travels. We were assured (via airport hotel internet booking site) that there would be a night porter to welcome us.
Welcome? The man looked very perplexed and did not have us on his records that I had booked double room, despite the reference number I provided. He tried to make us pay £27 each for the x2 single beds available. We managed to pay £20 each for the extra room, which meant paying just £2 extra from the original price quoted.
There was absolutely NIL professionalism...and it felt as though we had arrived at a respite/resthome owned by Basil and Manuel. (AKA Fawlty Towers) The man opposite the single room I was assigned to was coughing his left lung and the room had a particularly bad/damp smell.
I know you get for what you pay for, but Im afraid to say this B&B was really not worth the trouble.
No shower, just a grimy bath to wash in.(which we didn't...had a birdbath from the water in the sink of our room). My partner and I ended up sleeping together in the single bed and locking the door. Cosy, but essential, given the circumstances. We had just finished a wonderful trip in Greece,(we don't really take holidays normally ) and came back to a damp, dirty hotel. We laugh about it now, but at the time we were NOT AMUSED !!
I would not recommend this accomodation to anyone.

For the money paid this is the very best value in the Manchester Airport area, located on the edge of the village of Handforth, with its shops, take aways and pubs, this Lodge provides basic accommodation which I found to be clean and tidy. The customer service is excellent, the welcome warm. The room benefited from free view TV and my en suite was fine with a nice powerful shower. the lounge had a computer for guest use.
Breakfast was poor, a merger selection of help yourself drinks, cereals and toast, if you want a full English you will be disappointed.

This is a very basic b&b and you get what you pay for. Location was handy as we had a wedding within walking distance however this is the only thing I was positive about. The rooms are ok in size but not great, the bed was certainly not a double, barely 3/4 and old bedding which is faded and mould in the shower. The shower is a drip and I did not feel clean afterwards. No toiletties provided other than handwash so dont forget your toilet bag as you wont get a bar of soap to use!

The staff didnt speak great english so asking about what time the doors will be open until in the evening etc was difficult. There were signs in the reception area to let you know check out time and breakfast times which is a good job as the staff didnt provide any information of this kind.

The breakfast was help your self and had an option of toast or 2 different types of cereal. No staff to be seen to be seen at breakfast and we were not sure as to whether we just helped our selves and put the kettle on to make a cup of coffee. I dont mind this set up as long as you know to expect it.

Wont be staying here again and would only reccomend if every where else is full!
