“Very welcoming and great value!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 June 2014

I've stayed at The Boars Head Hotel a couple of times now with friends and have been overwhelmed by the welcoming and accomodating attitude of all the staff (and the locals!). The rooms are spotless, tastefully decorated, very comfortable and have lovely modern bathrooms with great showers. Many thanks to all for making our visit memorable in all the right ways.
We will definately come back again.

I live in Scotland and I have found myself working in the middlewich area over the last few months. I have been warmly welcomed by the staff and the locals and have had a few good chats with them. The accommodation is lovely and has good WiFi both in the bar and in your room.

They have an excellent dinner menu all reasonably priced and really tasty. Personally the hand cut chips are the best I have had in quite a while.

When you are away from home this is just the kind of place you want to stay, you don't feel alone or like an intruder. I would come and stay here if I was visiting the area, maybe one of these times get across to Jodrell Bank.

Didn't get a smile , barely a word from the landlord when we checked in. A busy Saturday night in a not very salubrious pub. Got he impression we were a nuisance. We were told breakfast would be served from 0830 to 1000. We said we'd be down at 9 am.
Next morning at 9, the whole place was in darkness and deserted. We hung around for 10 minutes but no-one appeared. Took a look at what appeared to be the breakfast room. No tables laid, last night's dirty tablecloths, quite a bit of last night's litter and a plate of left over food scraps. Looked so grubby that we finally left without the breakfast for which we had paid.
The room was OK, but no chair, no hairdryer and both coffee cups had a residue in the bottom.
Overall, a bit of a dump, and the worst B&B we've ever stayed in.

Four of us on a cycle touring weekend stopped for one night. All the staff were friendly and helpful. We chose the Boars because it looked like a traditional locals boozer....which we like. It is just that but a lot more too. The actual pub is a victorian building with all it's original features. The rooms we stayed in were in the extension on the back of the pub, nice and modern and spacious. En suite was roomy with large shower. The owners let us store our bikes in the main building overnight so that was one less thing to worry about and much appreciated. Downstairs was welcoming with a range of real ale on offer and a buzzing atmosphere. The pub was very much a locals pub but we were made to feel at home straight away. Breakfast next morning was spot on, very enjoyable stay.

The room was clean and the bed comfy but room not well equipped, no hairdryer or iron in the room, dressing table but no chair, no phone and nothing giving details such as breakfast times and wifi codes. I booked a table when I booked the room but it was a very basic bar menu which I ended up eating in the pub as dining room was not open. The shepherds pie was truly the worst I have ever had and the chips were soggy. This is not a quiet relaxing B&B there was a brass band practising in the function room next to Room 1 which went on until 9.20 pm I was woken up at 1 am by other guests going to bed, they were very loud anyway which is not the B&Bs fault but the incredibly creaky floors did little to help and the noise did not stop until gone 2 am. Down for breakfast in the morning to a dingy room with the only available table still dirty from a previous breakfast. Breakfast was nice enough though. Having said all that it was fairly cheap at £62.15 for the room, breakfast, two course dinner and three drinks so I guess you get what you pay for.

Room Tip: Avoid Room 1 as you are right next to the function room where the brass band practice and closest to...

A very pleasant room with sizeable en suite. The staff were very polite, very friendly and extremely helpful. We were given a breakfast, consisting of an assortment of cereal, fruit juice, a full English, including black pudding (which we don't eat), toast & jam/marmalade. Might we suggest they prepare a menu showing what the full english consists of, so requirements can be selected in advance to avoid wastage, as not everyone eats all the items provided.

The pub is just a few minutes off the M6, so a good stop off if you're heading on a long journey and want a handy overnighter. It's also just a short walk in to Middlewich for an evening meal, there's a choice of pubs, Chinese and a Mexican (where we ate - very good).
Room 1 is on the front corner of the pub so when the window is open there's a lot of road noise. The bed was clean and comfortable. The room spacious and fine for a business trip stopover. Shower, no bath, in that bathroom. It worked and was warm, which is better than most pubs at this price. A new shower unit would be nice but it was all clean and worked.
There's a number of real ales in the bar, which has plenty of seating. They have a Pool Table in a separate room close to the bar.
Breakfast was really good value - choice of cereal, proper mugs of tea and a really good sized cooked breakfast.
Staff all friendly and off road parking behind the pub.
