“Somewhere quirky and very different”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 December 2012

The hotel is located in the centre of Nantwich. Car parking is a bit awkward, the hotel has some designated spaces at the end of a public pay and display car park and I had to manouvre carefully into an end bay. My first impression indoors was "Alice in Wonderland". It is clearly an old building, the staircases are narrow and creaky, the floors are not level and there are exposed wooden beams in unexpected locations and at many angles. You need to work out your bearings before visiting the bar/restaurant. I liked my room, it had nice features and it was warm and cosy on a bitterly cold night. But it overlooked a street where people spilled out of other venues quite late and so there was some noise when I was trying to sleep. I found the food generally to be of a reasonable quality and I really liked the cheeseboard. Service was very good, at dinner and breakfast. Choose this hotel if you don't like the modern, antiseptic boring hotel chains but make sure you ask for a quiet room.

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room to avoid late-night noise from the street below.

Went for my works Christmas party, the venue was nice but the food was not up to standard the starter very nice and so was the dessert but! the main course was a very small portion I had 2!! sprouts on my plate which were so hard my fork would not pierce them had to pick them up by hand to eat, then had trouble cutting the cauliflower which was also very undercooked.
Unfortunately not worth the money charged, very dissapointed.

Extremely unhappy with the service and when told it isn't good enough was shouted at by 2 very rude owners/managers. I was given an £8 refund after being told they were going to call the police if I didn't pay in full! Beware - extremely over priced and all they are bothered about is money, not customer satisfaction.

This review is for the HOTEL.

Stayed here after a wedding. The room was fine - nice and big, if a little old fashioned. The hotel itself is an old and quirky building, but some of the facilities could do with a little modernising. Staff were very helpful and pleasant and the room was clean(ish). The blanket on the bed was horrible and looked flea bitten. There were no complimentary soaps or shower gels and there was no hot water so the ice cold shower really woke me up in the morning!

The bar is nice but I was really disappointed that there was no vegetarian option for breakfast (well there was, but it was just the full english without the bacon and sausage) - how hard is it to get some veggie sausages and a few hash browns and beans?

The price was definitely too high for the standard of room in a place such as Nantwich.

Visited this hotel with friends last Thursday. We have no complaints considering the age of the building. Our rooms were spacious and the beds comfortable. We had a problem with the hot water in the bathroom, one call to reception and it was put right within minutes. It was an airblock due to the age of the building. The staff were very friendly and we would not hesitate staying there again. Nantwich is a lovely friendly town, and the butcher's shop "Welch's" is definitely worth a visit. A step back in time. Also there is such a variety of toffee and biscuit tins ideal for Christmas presents.

We stayed for two nights across an October weekend. Shame the hotel didn't think to warn us that the room was single glazed, with a hole in one of the windows and no central heating. Brr! No duvet either, just dated blankets. Okay, this is an old building but we were still surprised to be told that when we had a shower, the water leaked straight through to the breakfast room beneath ... Speaking of which, not the best breakfast we've ever had. Orange juice served straight from the carton? Not what I'd normally expect for over £80 a night ! In summary, poor quality, overpriced and dated. My advice, if you want to stay in or near Nantwich, treat yourself to anywhere other than The Crown !!!

Room Tip: Try another hotel instead

My partner and i were invited guests to a wedding reception here last weekend, and chose to book overnight stay for convenience sake, oh dear !.The room required a complete update from the Dickensian era it exits in,the room furniture was rescued from a charity shop and the drapes and decor was from pre war ( you can choose which war ! ) with a bed that was near to collapse and creaked nearly as much as the floorboards, bedlinen would have been rejected by my grandma ( duvets have not yet reached this hotel ! ) a complete miss mash of fittings and fixtures. The bathroom was a delight, with painted bath tiles and wooden bath fittings and a soup bowl to house the bath gels.Lino, yes lino floor !, and a WC accessed via a 6in stepped drop in floor level. Now for breakfast ! well the tables were not adequately laid out with necessary condiments, cheap orange in A CARTON ! full english it certainly wasn't, with amatuer service by unkempt disinterested staff. On leaving, we pointed out our dissatisfaction to an oblivious uninterested manager who was aghast at why we were unhappy at the price charged ( £84 for double room a SPECIAL rate for the wedding guests ).Needless to say the other wedding guests were all of the same opinion of the standard of the hotel .......... rubbish !.
