“Birthday treat”
Reviewed 25 June 2012

I took my wife to Rookery for a birthday treat. We were overwhelmed by the wonderful staff. The check in was fast and efficient, with Jess and Brian helping us with all our needs from breakfast times to help with luggage. The spa was wonderful and again helpful staff made it so much nicer.
Breakfast was fantastic, with a lovely team of waiters and waitresses led by earl who, again, went out of his way to make our trip so wonderful

Room Tip: our suite was brilliant

We stayed as a treat to celebrate my Wife's birthday we had a executive room in the new wing, the room was a nice size and was well planned. Tea and coffee making facilities in the room, with bottled water in the Fridge. Plenty of pillows and fluffy towels. Unfortunately it was let down by the TV in the bathroom and one the switches on the bedside light being faulty. I forgot to mention this to the reception so if the hotel reads this it was room (407). I don't know if the room had been used recently but was a little dusty.

The leisure facilities were very nice, the time the children could use the pool was limited (but we were told at the time of booking so have no complaints) My wife had a treatment that she said was excellent and worth the £75.

The Breakfast was excellent a great choice of fruit, Cereal, bread, meats etc. There were quite a few options for cooked breakfast all superb and the staff waiting on were all very attentive and first class.

Room Tip: Executive rooms seems worth the extra.

Stayed for one night as a treat for my husband's birthday. We stayed in a large, traditional room in the original part of the house with a lovely view overlooking the garden. We understand the rooms in the newer wing are more contemporary. Four poster bed was really comfortable with loads of pillows. Tea, coffee & water in the room. Big tv. Had a great night's sleep and didn't hear a sound from other rooms or other parts of the hotel. We had a lovely 3 course dinner with a nice touch for my husband's dessert which went down very well (see photo). We had breakfast cooked to order the following morning. There's also a cold buffet style breakfast if you prefer with choice of fruit, cereals, cheeses. Fantastic food and service for both meals. We used the spa, pool & gym and had a couple of treatments. Facilities are excellent and very well maintained. All of the hotel & spa staff were polite and helpful and very attentive - obviously a lot of work goes into training and it shows. All in all a fantastic place to go for a special occasion - can't recommend it enough.

Room Tip: Try and get a room in the original part of the house.

Just stayed for a couple of nights June 2012 and very much enjoyed our stay. Refreshing to stay at a UK hotel at which the staff are helpful, courteous and clearly well-trained. Our standard room was more than adequate and a wonderful bed meant two very good nights' sleep. Used the spa twice and thoroughly enjoyed it - nice pool and not too busy. The first night we ate at the hotel and again no complaints, food and service was excellent and a good wine list to suit all tastes and budgets. Buffet breakfast or cooked menu options to order was also just right. It is a lovely hotel with pleasant grounds and well worth considering if you are planning to stay in Cheshire - well situated as a base for touring the county and easy to find. In summary a 5/5 score and we will certainly consider staying here again and look at the other hotels in this small collection.

This hotel is quite possibly one of the best ones in the country. I stopped here last week with my husband and two daughters and we all had a wonderful time. The grounds are beautiful!! We had a family room which had its own patio and a bathroom which had a TV in the bath. The room was spotless and my chidlren were made up with the toy cat that they found (all rooms have a toy cat). On the second day of our stay we used the swimming pool and health spa facilities which can only be described as amazing! The swimming pool allows children between 9 and 11 on most days and we found it to be really child friendly.

The hotel bar is lovely but quite expensive!! We had to pay £7.50 for a vodka and coke although I didn't mind because the hotel was so beautiful.

Stayed for two nights in main. First impressions approach the hotel up the drive - stunning!
We were in a room in the new wing at the rear. A tad on the small side but very clean, comfortable and modern - the telly above the bath was excellent for watching the Premiership climax on the Sunday!

One drawback with rooms in this wing is that you have to go outside to get to the facilities in the main building, not very nice when you are dressed for dinner and its raining!

The food was very good, I had the duck on the first night tasty, pink and moist. The fish my wife had was perfectly cooked and delicious. On the second night we both had the lamb shoulder which you could have cut with a spoon. On our second evening we asked to have our cheese and port sent to our room and this done in an instant.
Great wine list with plenty of choice, for all budgets, in fact the bar prices were very reasonable for a hotel of this standard.
Fantastic pool and a steam room that you could spend hours popping in and out of.
The cooked breakfast was table service and all the staff were first rate - good mix of youngsters with experienced old hands to pass on their knowledge.

A short stroll of a couple of miles will take you to the Shropshire canal, good way to work off breakfast.

In total a great break in luxurious comfort, great facilities, good views, very good service.

Room Tip: If we were to return we'd go for one of the "Month" rooms in the original building - i...

Hello,

Thank you for your wonderful comments on your stay with us at Rookery.

I can see you have experience in reviewing hotels and clearly have a very good eye for detail so we are very happy that your feedback was so positive.

Sorry you thought the link to the old house was dissapointing, it is only 10 steps and meant we could keep the character of the hall un touched.

We are delighted you found the value for money good and the hospitality and catering also.

Best Wishes

Stephen
