Grand National weekend is always an eventful occasion.
Break at Alvaston was very good with excellent food , good entertainments and a trip organised by Warners to Aintree for the Grand National which was very enjoyable.
It was most unusual to see a general Manager be so available and hands on such as Gary. Most general Managers are usually hiding in their office or "In a meeting" when you need to see them. Gary made himself available to all guests over the weekend therefore we have voted him employee of the month.
The trip to the Grand National by coach we thought was a bit expensive. £105 each. There were only 5 paying guests on the coach and 6 freeloaders from Warners including Dave from Head Office.A further two guests who had bought their tickets before arriving at Alvaston hitched a lift on the coach. All went well and a good days racing was experienced until we went to return. All except Dave from Head Office found their way to the coach but we had to wait well over an hour for Dave from Head Office who could not find his way from the course to the coach. We only just made it back for dinner.
Sevice in the restaurant was exceptionally slow and the waiting staff did not have any time for the usual pleasantries that we expect from Warners. In fact most staff were looking tired and fed up.Kt the comic compere seemed like he wanted to be somewhere else although the other entertainers were ok.The "FAB FOUR" tribute to the Beatles was fab.

Thank you for taking the time to post your review.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for all of your feedback. Thank you for voting me employee of the month as I have never won the accolade before.

Our culture at Warner Leisure Hotels, is to lead by example, and also reward our team for exceptional work, because of this when unusual excursions such as the Grand National come up, we feel it only right to reward our star team players, who have gone above and beyond their everyday duties. I have spoken to Dave, and he does apologise for holding the coach up, however he did get lost trying to find it.

I am so pleased that you enjoyed the day, and the weekend break, especially the Fab 4 Beatles Cabaret we had on the Saturday night, in our brand new Cabaret Dining Restaurant. We do hope that you can come back and enjoy our fabulous new Hotel, and look forward to welcoming you back at some point in the future.

Kindest Regards
Gary Johnson

Just got back from a midweek break at Alvaston Hall. We enjoyed another good break with Warners although there was more building work going on than I thought there would be it did not
poil our stay. Our room was in the main house and was lovely and big and clean and the food was excellent and we found all the staff very friendly and helpful. The entertainment was also very good and we enjoyed all the four nights we were there. There is still a lot of work to be done there before it will be finished and I am sure that when it is all done it will make a nice place even better.

It is so lovely to hear all of your wonderful feedback, and I shall pass this on to all of the team. I also love the fact that the building work did not detract from you having a fabulous time while you were with us.

We are now in the final stage of building work, with the completion date getting ever closer, and it would be lovely to welcome you back to see the finished result.

Old fashioned rooms, ours also had the advantage of having the central heating motors on a flat roof immediately outside, and on level with the bedroom windows, so sleep was very very difficult. The staff were not bothered, no attempt was made to mus though we had requested an upgrade.

I travelled over from Derbyshire to have afternoon tea with my daughter. The food and service were both great; in fact we struggled to finish the lovely sandwiches and cakes. The staff were very friendly and attentive and were helpful from the minute I arrived in the car park (helping to direct visitors through the work that is taking place). The refurbishment of the hotel so far is fabulous; can't wait to return for more lovely food and to see the finished results. Thank you to Sharon and the team. It was well worth the journey and a lovely treat.

We have returned today from a weekend break at Alvaston. The stay was very enjoyable especially the usual polished performance of the Manfreds, although Mike D'Abo was sadly missed. However there are a few tweaks needed with regard to the Grove Restaurant. The new food station with its dome shaped sliding lid food containers slow the self service process down somewhat. We found that understandably people lift the lid of each container to see what it contains before making the decision to take a portion or not.The old system of open containers works much better as it is obvious beforehand what is there to choose from and therefore speeds up the service area congestion which can only get much worse when the alterations are completed and the hotel is fully occupied.
In addition to this the lack of staff on the restaurant floor put a lot of strain on the few staff that were on duty and understandably slowed down table service a lot, there were times when we waited up to 20 minutes before staff came to take our food order .
I personally found the decor a little strange with the reindeer theme (Christmas all year round) and we did wonder how long the doors which are fitted to partition off the food area at non meal times will last as we observed that the staff seemed to experience great difficulty in fitting them each evening.
These are just the opinions of myself and my husband and our thoughts as to how things could improve. We look forward to our next visit when no doubt the hotel alterations will have been completed and full occupancy has put it to the test !

After reading "thesimple" "a building Site" review I was a little worried about our stay at Alvaston Hall. What a pleasant surprise it was.

The evening meal was to die for but what really topped it for me was the breakfast!! Eggs Benedict were so well presented and equally tasty I was a little cheeky and followed this with a Full English from the carvery which was also delicious .

Saturday's entertainment in the evening was memorable The Manfreds, Peter Jones and his harmonica playing.... awesome. The Alvaston Team were really friendly, being younger than most of the guests we were a little apprehensive but didn't need to be as all the team went out of their way to ensure our stay was unforgetable!!

We enjoyed a swim each day and particularly enjoyed relaxing in the steam room, watching the aqua aerobics class really wore us out!! (giggle muscles)

All in all there is work in progress but this did not hinder our stay in anyway, The Manager Sharon was informative and was very excited to tell us the Tarmac is arriving 17th March this mean guests can use the main entrance again. All works will be complete 2nd June 2014 We have already booked a new Fairways Royale Suite for my Birthday weekend.

Room Tip: The New Fairways rooms look amazing have booked a Suite with a Balcony overlooking the new pond can...

just arrived home from our trip with friends to Alvaston Hall, we had a really enjoyable time the food was good and the evening entertainment was great. All the staff were friendly, not having stayed at this one before it was nice being able to stay at your table to watch the evening entertainment in the lovely new cabaret room. The only glip was probably the two rooms we had were a bit small compared to the others and we were high up and wasn't told beforehand that there was no lift in that part of the hotel. Lovely holiday overall.

Room Tip: Ask where the rooms are there isn't a lift in the house part although it was quiet

It is great to hear you had such a good time while you were with us, and I am so glad you loved our new Cabaret Restaurant. It is a bonus that our guests can stay at the same table for the Entertainments. It is one of our unique selling points at Alvaston.

I am very sorry that you were not informed that there was no lift to your rooms, however, if you do decide to visit us again, our brand new rooms will be open from the 4th July, and you could perhaps stay in one of those.

We look forward to welcoming you back to Alvaston Hall at some point in the future.
